Israel will have to make a decision on next steps in the war on Hamas, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Sunday, adding he did not know what would happen after the terrorists blew up the ceasefire negotiations.
“You know, they had a routine discussion the other day and, all of a sudden, they hardened up,” he said of the talks, speaking alongside European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in Scotland.
Hamas doesn’t “want to give them back,” Trump said of the remaining 50 hostages held in the Gaza Strip.
“So Israel’s going to have to make a decision,” the president told reporters. “I know what I do, but I don’t think it’s appropriate that I say, but Israel is going to have to make a decision.”…..

United Nations secretary-general Antonio Guterres on Monday said that Israel’s creeping annexation of the West Bank is illegal and the wholesale destruction of the Gaza Strip is intolerable and both must stop. “Let’s be clear: The creeping annexation of the occupied West Bank is illegal. It must stop. The wholesale destruction of Gaza is intolerable. It must stop,” he told a conference at the UN on a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians.

The number of hungry people around the world fell for a third straight year in 2024, retreating from a Covid-era spike, even as conflict and climate shocks deepened malnutrition across much of Africa and western Asia, a UN report said on Monday. Around 673 million people, or 8.2% of the world’s population, experienced hunger in 2024, down from 8.5% in 2023, according to the State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report, jointly prepared by five UN agencies.

Two leading human rights organisations based in Israel, B’Tselem and Physicians for Human Rights, say Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and the country’s western allies have a legal and moral duty to stop it. Reconizing a Palestinian State….
Saudi Arabia and France have opened a three-day conference at the United Nations with the goal of recognising Palestinian statehood as part of a peaceful settlement to end the war in Gaza.
The conference began on Monday, just days after the French president, Emmanuel Macron, said Paris would officially recognise the Palestinian government in September in an effort to reinvigorate peace talks around a two-state solution that have all but been written off since the deadly Hamas raid and ensuing Israeli military operation that began in 2023….
….
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, condemned Macron’s decision, saying that it “rewards terror” and that a Palestinian state would be a “launchpad to annihilate Israel”.
Israel also criticised the Saudi-French-led conference on Monday. “This conference does not promote a solution, but rather deepens the illusion. Instead of demanding the release of the hostages and working to dismantle Hamas’s reign of terror, the conference organizers are engaging in discussions and plenaries that are disconnected from reality,” said Danny Damon, the Israeli ambassador to the UN.
The US has echoed the Israeli sentiment and on Monday called the conference “unproductive and ill-timed.”….
