Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has asked the Georgia Supreme Court to reverse her disqualification in the election interference case against President-elect Trump, according to a court filing.
Why it matters: Willis’ disqualification from the case over a conflict of interest was seen as a major win for Trump, and a blow to the last effort to prosecute him for his allegedly trying to overturn the 2020 election results.
- “No Georgia court has ever disqualified a district attorney for the mere appearance of impropriety without the existence of an actual conflict of interest,” Willis’ appeal stated.
Catch up quick: The Georgia Court of Appeals ruled in December to disqualify Willis over a conflict of interest stemming from a romantic relationship she had with the lead prosecutor on the case, whom she hired.
- Trump’s legal team has repeatedly accused her of impropriety and cast the indictment against him as tainted because of the relationship, which Willis publicly acknowledged.
- The trial judge overseeing the case previously allowed Willis to stay on it as long as the prosecutor, Nathan Wade, stepped aside.
Flashback: Trump and 18 co-defendants were indicted in August 2023 under Georgia’s RICO law, which is typically used to prosecute organized crime.
Between the lines: Willis easily won reelection in November against Republican challenger Courtney Kramer, who served as a White House legal intern in the Trump administration….

Willis has nobody to blame but herself for royally “screwing “(literally and figuratively) up this case which was probably the best one of the four against Trump.

Earlier this week the Georgia Republican Party “ expelled “former Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan essentially due to his outspoken opposition to Trump.
The funny thing is Georgia has no registration by party so Duncan can still participate in Republican primaries and so forth so this is nothing more than MAGA blowing off some steam.
Duncan,for his part, says he wears the “expulsion “ as a badge of honor.
Fulton County is overwhelmingly Democrat. This is another example of you having no knowledge of what you are speaking about. None of us are doing you or ourselves any favors by interacting on these sort of things.
Regardless, I will point out once again that whatever glee james or whomever feels about Donald Trump being a “convicted felon”in New York State is nothing compared to the glee that MAGA feels about the fact that he is about to be President.
All of this is pointless. The American people decided they did not care about the New York trial. Those that did care are far more likely to think that he was treated unfairly in this case, and thus they felt he was treated unfairly in the more serious cases. This helped him get elected.
I do not blame the New York jurors for following the law and instructions they were given but Bragg and his office should never have brought the charges. They initially were not going to but decided to for some reason, likely political. It all backfired. Hugely. It helped Trump get elected almost as much as anything else.
Monumental failure with potentially catastrophic results.

Willis monumentally screwed up and no amount of your “ whataboutism” is going to change that and the best case against Trump has probably gone down the drain.
The “ American people” don’t care that Trump is a felon.The New York conviction was well known prior to the election .Most people didn’t even understand what it was all about or care.
