Donald Trump likely won’t want to hype Harry Enten’s latest analysis.
On Monday’s episode of “News Central,” CNN’s data wonk noted how Barack Obama is considerably more popular with Americans than Trump is right now.
In fact, Enten said, the former president “absolutely crushes” his White House successor “when it comes to who is more liked by the American public.”
The pair’s net favorability ratings are “basically inverse pictures of each other,” said Enten, with Obama’s at +20 percentage points, while Trump’s is at -18.
“My goodness gracious,” Enten said.
The gulf is even wider among independent voters, with Obama at +19 percentage points and Trump at -38, he added.
“This has been a massive problem throughout the latter part of Donald Trump’s second term,” said Enten. “That is real difficulty with independent voters and it is the main reason why a lot of these red states … are in play, because even though they may have more Republicans than Democrats, the independents have totally shifted against the president of the United States and the Republican Party.”
Enten later turned to polling on who Americans believe has been the better president.
Obama, who joined the Democrats’ midterm campaign this week, taunting Trump in the process, came in at 55%, compared with 37% for Trump in polling conducted earlier this year. Enten suggested the gap could be even wider now.
