President Donald Trump’s lengthy speech during the opening night of the Republican Midterm Convention proved to be a ratings dud.
According to data from Nielsen, an audience of 2.5 million viewers tuned in to Fox News from 9-11 p.m. ET Wednesday night, when the president’s address aired. Fox News carried the speech while competitors CNN and MS NOW did not.
The good news for Fox was that they trounced the competition in those time slots — with their 2.5 million towering over MS NOW’s 1 million and CNN’s 441,000. The bad news? They might have run up the score even further had they just stuck with regular programming….

And of course, the president did have the NFL to contend with. Numbers for Wednesday night’s season opener between the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots are not yet out, but if past seasons are any indication, the audience is likely to land in the 27-30 million viewer range.
Trump had insisted ratings for his speech outdid the National Football League, writing on Truth Social Thursday well before any numbers were announced:
“The Republican Midterm Convention last night, in Dallas, was a major, sold out hit, far bigger, better, and more important than anyone thought possible. It was really something, streaming all over the place, and really big numbers, despite going up against the NFL. The overall numbers beat the NFL,” the president wrote.
He added, “The Arena, which was really nice, beat its own attendance records. The place was packed! There were thousands of people outside who couldn’t get in. Screens were provided. I guess people LOVE TRUMP POLITICS! I’ll be there again tonight to close out the show. Exciting “Stuff!” MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!!!”….
