Joe diGenova, a Trump ally tapped to lead a sprawling investigation into many of the president’s perceived enemies, resigned from his post late Thursday, indicating concerns over the strength of the case.
The so-called grand conspiracy investigation was led out of a U.S. attorney office in Florida where prosecutors issued dozens of subpoenas in a sweeping probe into the 2016 election and the cases into President Trump.
“I did in fact resign,” diGenova told The Associated Press, calling it an “honor and a privilege” to serve Trump and the Department of Justice (DOJ).
But in a later interview with the New York Post, diGenova suggested there were larger issues with the investigation.
“If you want indictments where there’s no evidence, you have an ethical problem,” he told the outlet.
The Trump ally later expanded on those comments to The Associated Press, saying, “There’s plenty of evidence in all of these cases to prove the theories of prosecution. It just takes time to get there, and some people want to get there a little faster than others — and you can’t do that.”
The Justice Department did not respond to a request for comment. ABC News first reported his resignation.
The probe has yet to lead to any charges….

diGenova isn’t the first person to walk away from Donald ‘s efforts to use the law to beat on innocent people he don’t like….
