Donald REALLY IS Scared, eh?
This isn’t the first time Donald has promised to empty the Treasury for something that ain’t gonna happen…
*Update….
Trump think’s he can just print the checks without Congress’s approval?..
“President Donald Trump claimed Thursday that his controversial proposal to send a $5,000 check to every American would not need approval from Congress,” Mediaitereports.
Said Trump: “Well, we think not. I think they will do it if we needed it. But we think not. The country is doing so well, we’ve taken in trillions of dollars in tariffs and other things.”
President Donald Trump has pledged to send $5,000 to every adult in the U.S. if Republicans retain control of Congress in the midterms, a payout that would dwarf the amount distributed during the Covid pandemic and likely explode the deficit.
The president made the pledge Wednesday of a “Trump dividend” during his wide-ranging speech at the Republican’s midterm convention in Dallas as he rallied his party to win in November.
He gave no details, except to specify that it would go only to citizens and have to be spent in the U.S. Trump compared it to his December 2025 announcement of a $1,776 dividend to members of the military though it was actually a military housing stipend already approved by Congress, and not a generous new White House program.
“I will issue a dividend to every adult citizen in the United States of America for $5,000, very much like a successful company will do a cash distribution to its shareholders or like last year when I gave our great members of the military $1,776,” he said.
It was not immediately clear how the checks would be financed, but the president said it would be made possible from what he called the nation’s “tremendous economic success.”
A GOP operative, granted anonymity to discuss the idea, expressed skepticism, calling it “a desperate attempt to change the political mood.”
Also skeptical was Republican Rep. Chip Roy of Texas. “Well — I would like to know how they would plan to pay for … back of envelope … well over $1 trillion,” he said when asked about it.
There are approximately 240 million adult citizens in the U.S., according to the U.S. Census Bureau, meaning that the payments could cost about $1.2 trillion…..
Update….
“Senate Majority Leader John Thune declined to answer a question on whether the Republican-controlled Senate would pass President Donald Trump’s proposal to give each U.S. adult a $5,000 payment,” Bloomberg reports.
Said Thune: “Well, that’s a good question. We’ll cross that bridge when we come to it.”
New York Times: Trump wants to give out $5,000 checks. Is that even possible?
Your Deadbeat President Is Never Giving You $5,000
Mother Jones: “The year is 2026, and by now, you know, with clarity, that Donald Trump is a brazen liar with an unusually impressive record of promising free cash—only to rarely ever fulfill those lofty pledges. It is the personality of a deadbeat that long precedes his entry into politics…”
“‘It will be called the Trump Dividend,’ he said at Wednesday’s GOP convention in Dallas, as a beaming Scott Bessent, the Treasury secretary, applauded along.”
“The plan, as many have now weighed in, would cost at least $1 trillion and arrives just as alarm bells are clanging over a ballooning national debt and everyday expenses continuously get more expensive. But Trump’s latest pledge is as fantastical and mendacious as many of Trump’s previous promises of free cash.”
