Democrats can breath a bit
The ‘jungle’ primary and bad history for one of their own had a Republican leading in the True Blue State…
That WAS Then….
More California voters are leaning toward backing Democrat Xavier Becerra, the former Health and Human Services secretary, in the state’s gubernatorial race, according to a new survey.
The Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) released new polling on Wednesday, which showed the former Biden administration official leading the pack of bipartisan candidates with 23 percent support.
Republican Steve Hilton, a GOP political consultant and former Fox News commentator, was close behind with 20 percent.
The other Democratic candidates all polled further below, with billionaire Tom Steyer at 15 percent and former Rep. Katie Porter (Calif.) at 12 percent. They sandwiched GOP candidate and Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco, who garnered 13 percent.
Fifteen percent of those polled indicated they would support “other candidates,” while 2 percent said they were undecided.
Becerra has become the top Democrat in this race after former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Calif.), dropped out of the contest amid allegations of past sexual misconduct.
Ahead of the final gubernatorial debate earlier this month, Becerra was polling at 19 percent in an Emerson College Polling and Inside California Politics survey…..
