NY Times…..
With six days left in a mayoral campaign that has riveted New York City politics for the past year, and early voting well underway, the three major candidates are traversing the city to secure the support of New Yorkers who have not yet cast their ballots.
So far, older New Yorkers have been voting early in greater numbers than they did during the Democratic primary in June. Allies of Andrew M. Cuomo, the Democratic former governor running as an independent, believe those figures are a positive sign because he tends to do better among older voters.
Still, a poll released Tuesday by the Manhattan Institute, a conservative think tank, showed Zohran Mamdani, the Queens assemblyman and democratic socialist running on the Democratic Party line, retaining a double-digit lead over Mr. Cuomo. Curtis Sliwa, the Republican nominee, remains in third.
On Wednesday, the candidates had campaign stops across the city.
Mr. Mamdani returned to Fordham Road in the Bronx, where he recorded a video nearly a year ago about the re-election of President Trump that raised his profile in the early days of his campaign.
Mr. Cuomo released his final campaign ad before events later in the day in Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island. Mr. Cuomo has portrayed himself as the working-class rival of Mr. Mamdani. Tax documents reviewed this week by The Times show that he made nearly $5 million in 2024, an amount that puts him in the top 0.5 percent of New York City earners.
Mr. Sliwa has shown no sign of dropping out, though Mr. Cuomo and his allies fervently wish he would. At his first stop on Wednesday, at the South Ferry subway station in Manhattan, Mr. Sliwa said that the early voting numbers were a positive sign for his campaign.
“The people who have pledged themselves to support me in this election have said they’re getting out there and taking advantage of the early vote, which is good,” he said.
On Tuesday, Mayor Eric Adams, who recently overcame his own distaste for Mr. Cuomo and endorsed him, campaigned with the former governor in the Bronx, where both suggested that Mr. Mamdani was a Democrat in name only.
Mr. Mamdani, at an event with canvassers in Manhattan on Tuesday, said that he was not worried about suggestions that his lead might be narrowing but added that it was important not to let confidence become complacency. “We know that there is an election to win,” he said, “no matter what the polls say, no matter what the odds say.”
About halfway through the early-voting period, which began last Saturday, turnout remained high: By Tuesday night, nearly 298,000 New Yorkers had voted, according to the Board of Elections. Voting in person on Election Day is expected to remain the most popular way for New Yorkers to cast their ballots….
Note…
A underlying story will be how many Republican voters who say they will vote for Sliwa actually vote for Cuomo against Mamdani…..
Mamdani is probity ahead by a little less….
But still leads….
This IS closer than people think
Mamdani Still Ahead by Double-Digits

A new Quinnipiac poll in New York City finds Zohran Mamdani leading the mayoral race with 43% support among likely voters, followed by Andrew Cuomo at 33% and Curtis Sliwa at 14%.
