Senator Schumer and the President cannot things they want from the US Senate because of two Democratic Senator’s…..
The thin majority for Democrats really does NOT exist…..
Senator McConnell CAN can count on his people supporting his wishes…..
And McConnell has NO problem setting the filibuster aside if he’s running things…..
But the circumstances in which she reiterated it — as Senate Democratic leaders prepared to launch a decisive floor debate and less than an hour before President Biden was scheduled to arrive on Capitol Hill to deliver a final, forceful appeal for action — put an exclamation point on her party’s long and fruitless effort to counter restrictive Republican-passed state voting laws….
…
Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer (D-N.Y.), who called the struggle to persuade Manchin and Sinema “an uphill fight” in interviews this week, laid out a plan Wednesday to bring two key voting rights bills to the Senate floor in the coming days, setting up a final showdown over the rules early next week.
Speaking on the Senate floor Thursday morning, Schumer said Democrats had no choice but to move forward unilaterally after trying to secure Republican cooperation on voting rights for months….
CG says
What remains in the commentary here is a stubborn, factual misunderstanding of the filibuster. Sort of par for the course though.
My Name Is Jack says
I don’t support getting rid of the filibuster.
I so support making it a real filibuster though like it used to be rather than this “virtual” filibuster that now exists.
CG says
Perhaps that might be a good idea, but note jack that Biden is now saying you are on the side of George Wallace, Bull Connor, and Jefferson Davis.
Plus, whatever MAGA candidates you already vote for in South Carolina.
My Name Is Jack says
I don’t Pay attention to all the hyperbolic utterances of politicians ,Democrats or Republicans.
Indeed I find most of it amusing.
Why don’t you come down to S.C. and appear at a Republican meeting and tell them that Donald Trump is a psychopath.and see what kind of reception you get?
CG says
I should do that and also go with you to a Democrat meeting and tell them what a bunch of “bozos” they are. I probably wouldn’t be too popular at either tribal gathering.
The hyperbolic utterances of Biden have been shameful. It is easy to want to overlook it which is exactly what many Republicans did and still do in regards to the shameful hyperbolic utterances of Trump.
My Name Is Jack says
You couldn’t care less what Biden said.
Btw are you a Republican?
My Name Is Jack says
Are you sorry you voted for Biden?
CG says
We don’t get voting do-overs, and I certainly would never vote for Trump, but I feel like I was deceived by Biden and that he turned out to be something that he is not. I care what any American President says and what they do.
Judging by his approval numbers, I am far from the only Biden voter to feel that way.
I will have to take the blame though. I chose to overlook he was the same politician who once told a black audience that Mitt Romney would put them “back in chains.”

Biden headwinds last 5 weeks or so:

*Omicron cases/hospitalizations soar
*7% inflation print
*Omarova withdraws

This was the job Biden had been trying to get for the past 50 years.

The Senator is lucky this isn’t the days of the LBJ Presidency……
Sinema’s Speech Stunned the White House
Playbook: “The White House legislative affairs team woke up this morning to some unwelcome news from Sen. Kyrsten Sinema: At noon, the Arizona Democrat would make a floor speech doubling down against eliminating the filibuster for voting rights — right before President Joe Biden’s planned arrival at the Capitol for a private lunch with Senate Dems to rally support for the proposal.”
“The call sent Biden aides and Hill Democratic leaders into a tailspin… Their scripted kabuki theater would now have a new and unplanned scene from a player who has been very deliberate about when she speaks up — and would likely upstage the president’s own appearance on the Hill.”
jamesb says
True THAT…..
It’s tough being the boss….
CG says
Why? Would LBJ have invaded her space and pushed her up against a wall?
Demanded to have a meeting with her in the washroom while he was on the crapper?
jamesb says
LBJ would have run up one side of her and down the other….
He would HAVE got right in her face….
Yes…scaring her physically
He would have treated her politically…..
ALL these things Biden is NOT gonna do I would suppose….
But what Trump HAS done I’d assume….
jamesb says
The LBJ ‘Treatment ‘….
Perhaps the most defining element of President Johnson’s persuasion was the Johnson Treatment itself—he was willing to push people. For better or worse, he would harangue, threaten, flatter and bully. This was evident in Johnson’s dealings with his mentor, longtime Georgia Senator Dick Russell. In establishing the Warren Commission—which was responsible for investigating the Kennedy assassination—Johnson knew Russell didn’t want to serve, but announced Russell’s involvement before asking him then bullied him into it in a phone call. As recorded in Indomitable Will, he then pushed past Russell—a dedicated segregationist—to get Civil Rights Act passed, telling him, “Dick, I love you and I owe you. But….I’m going to run over you if you challenge me on this civil-rights bill.” He did just that—leading to Russell boycotting the Democratic convention in 1964. Similarly, after Bloody Sunday in Selma, Johnson summoned George Wallace to a meeting at the White House [DOC] in which he physically loomed over the man and badgered him for hours on subjects from voting rights to protecting demonstrators. He made people uneasy. He invaded their space. And he kept after them. This kind of persistence is uncomfortable for most of us but essential for LBJ….

Joseph Biden has none of this….
Donald Trump DID…..
Biden is already suffering from the absence of the political methodology
CG says
To paraphrase Livia Soprano, “Oh poor him..”
CG says
The anti-Sinema comments on PoliticalWire are pretty vicious indeed.
Clearly, there are a lot of people who are very upset and frustrated that they cannot date her.
CG says
So james, you are endorsing a President and would in theory like Biden to “physically scare” a female Senator, (or for that matter any Senator?)
Really?
Sinema happens to be a triathlete and a mountain climber so I think Jill would try to hold him back.
jamesb says
Endorsing?
Did I say that?
CG says
Give me a break, the coward Donald Trump never tried to get “physical” with a Member of Congress.
The “LBJ Treatment” is a bygone of a different era and nobody in their right mind should think that it is a bad thing that it is gone.
jamesb says

CG says

Keith says
LOL Jack. Can you imagine Chuck Grassley holding it that long?
Keith says
Of course the President wants a filibuster carve out for voting rights legislation to prevent the Republicans from returning to Jim Crow voting legislation where there is a history of voter suppression. I think Jack understands better than most people here what that means, especially in the South. After all, the Senate already has exceptions for Supreme Court Justices and spending legislation. What could be more important than voting rights when the Republicans want to take us back to the days of George Wallace standing the voting stations door.
CG says
speaking of hyperbolic utterances…
Keith says
So it appears that Corey supports Republican legislation to suppress voters of color since there are already 20 Republican State Legislatures in the process of doing so and the only solution is a national law that will protect voting rights. He has a history of supporting voter suppression and denying climate change – two winners for sure.
He seems very upset with James, not sure why since most reasonable people are frustrated with Senator Sinema’s refusal to consider some basic changes to laws designed to protect voting rights.
As I said earlier today, there are already some significant carve outs or filibuster exceptions and this should be an easy one since many Republican Senators have already voted for improved voting rights. But that was before Trump and the need to steal the next election.
We all know there aren’t enough Republican Senators to do the right thing on this issue.
Why would Corey support this type of obstruction?
CG says
So please clarify then because what you have said on this sounds pretty disturbing.
You talk about how LBJ would interact physically with Sinema to get what he wanted. You seem to think this would have been a good thing and that you wished Biden would be able to do the same.
Is that not what you are saying? Are you willing to say it would be wrong for LBJ or Biden or any other President to “physically scare” a member of the government in order to get what they want? Please lay that to rest.
jamesb says
I state the former President’s actions as a historical fact…..
No more….
No Less….
As usual?
U make this however and wherever U want…..
CG says
Historically bad? Yes or no?
It should be easy to say.
And anybody who was reading your previous posts knew that you seemed to be endorsing it.
CG says
There have been many things said and written about Trump in terms of his business and political career, much of if very negative. Nobody has ever said that he tried to fight them or threatened them physically during a heated moment or in anyway confronted anyone physically (sexual assault allegations aside, which are a different matter entirely). Trump did his “fighting” on Twitter.
jamesb says
Except this time, right CG?
A man who has been caught on tape gloating about groping women — and panting like a dog after a married woman — should not be seen stalking a woman in front of millions of television viewers. Not if he wants to improve his image, anyway.
But Donald Trump, looming behind Hillary Clinton like a mob boss, only reinforced his perception as a schoolyard bully in the second presidential debate Sunday night….
Again?
Sinema IS lucky……
CG says
None of that has anything to do with the point you were trying to make.
Trump was never accused of doing what you seemed to suggest Biden should should do to Sinema.
Now, you can clear this up very easily by saying that it is never ok to “physically scare” someone as part of a political negotiation.
jamesb says
Again….
You state ur spin…..
CG says
As usual, you back yourself into a corner and look worse and worse the more you keep at it.
This time though, it’s about roughing up a woman. You are not even willing to state that there is no place for such a thing.

“LBJ would have run up one side of her and down the other….
He would HAVE got right in her face….
Yes…scaring her physically
He would have treated her politically…..
ALL these things Biden is NOT gonna do I would suppose….”
******************************************
You just suppose?
You seemed to make it appear that this would just be “politics” and somehow normal. Scaring someone physically is just politics as usual? You are the one saying it. The mob on 1/6 would agree.
Very disturbing stuff, but I suppose you can go edit your own posts to make it appear like you never said it.
CG says
Why is she lucky? What are you trying to get at? This seems very disturbing.
As for Trump’s “body language” in the debate, that’s not at all relevant to this and Hillary was in no danger. He was nowhere near her. Trump also did something weird with a chair at the Town Hall debate. At least we know he didn’t have Covid at that debate.
As for the standard of trying to “physically loom” in regards to an opponent at the Town Hall debates, that was invented by “nice and regular” Al Gore in 2000. Dubya handled Gore’s preening perfectly.
CG says
Sinema is lucky Martha McSally proceeded to blow an election (the first of two) that she should never have lost.
It is the Biden Administration and Senate Democrats that are lucky that Sinema is in the Senate instead of a Republican. But now, she’s just another Jefferson Davis to them.
jamesb says
She is along with Manchin, single handily holding up her party and the needs of tens of millions of American’s from additional voting protection while Republicans work day and night to suppress the vote….
On top of ALL of this?
She has the balls to say she supports the Voting Bill efforts????
Yes….
She IS LUCKY
CG says
Lucky how? That someone doesn’t physically attack her?
You sound like someone should keep an eye on.
jamesb says
You know what CG?
I’m talking about a dead president’s method of operation and a new President that does NOT do those things….But ex-Republican President that DID……..
You’ve concocted me into this and you need to cut the bull shit…..
This conversation is done……
Talk about something else…
Or go take walk around the block….
CG says
The dead President’s method of operation is roundly recognized as very wrong in this day and age. It would take quite a jerk to think otherwise. I do not think any past Republican President, for any other faults they might have had, at any point in U.S. history was said to have behaved the same way.
You’ve concocted yourself into it and are unwilling to say that violence against women is always wrong. Again, you made that very clear when you gave your views about Chris Brown and Rihanna. It would be very easy to clear it up if you now believe otherwise.
You’ve begged me to post here on your site and I will say what I think.

I feel it necessary to call you or anybody else out on extremism and support for potential political terrorism. You more than crossed a line of decency in what you posted about what should happen to Sinema.
You can go ahead and change parts of your posts after the fact and change the responses of other people to those posts after the fact, but it only speaks to your dishonesty and fear.
jamesb says
Just cut the bull shit …..
I do NOT have to change anything if u or others do NOT go to places they shouldn’t……

This back and forth between CG and James last evening is quite entertaining.
CG claims to have “screenshot” some of James’s statements so he couldn’t “edit” them.
Apparently James hinted that Joe Biden ought to “threaten” Sen. Sinema for her opposition to changing the filibuster.
Finally James invites CG to leave!
Oh for those halcyon days of yesteryear when James contacted CG for his assistance in getting me off his back and presenting an “alternate “ view.
I guess there be limits to “alternate” views!
CG says
We have reached a point where waterboarding terrorists is horrific but waterboarding a United States Senator to make them tow the party line is acceptable.

No matter how many times you edit your own posts or edit others after the fact, it does not change what you said and what it means.

Everything you have deleted in terms of your posts and the responses to them which wind up getting removed has been screenshot.

But was it worth the time and energy CG put into it? Absolutely not IMO.
But it passed the time for them I guess.

Who has so much time on their hands that they would screenshoot items on pdog101? I still marvel that there are people who read James’s posts, never mind print them!
How are these screen shots going to be used in the future? Does CG actually think they will make him look good? I assume CG is not joking. I just don’t get it.
My Name Is Jack says
Neither do I.
If his point is that James is a notorious liar who often makes bs up and then tries to deflect by changing the whole conversation to another topic when cornered.
Well I agree with that.
You don’t need screenshots though.
James lies and likes lying.
Zreebs says
We all know about James’s qualities. He is the most discussed person on this blog and we all have essentially the exact same opinion of him. A screenshot is not going to change a damn thing.
