“It’s the most truthful and easiest thing to say that Oct. 7 in Israel was horrific and all hostages must be returned, but so is the genocide, humanitarian crisis, and starvation happening in Gaza,” Ms. Greene said in a social media post on Monday evening.
It was the strongest in a series of escalating statements she has made in recent weeks criticizing Israel’s conduct of the war and calling for action to end the suffering in Gaza. The stance is a clear break with the vast majority of Republicans in Congress, who have made unconditional support for Israel a hallmark of their foreign policy approach.

There is starvation going on in Gaza and that needs to be acknowledged by Israel and others. Hamas is responsible and Hamas, unlike Israel, wants there to be starvation. Hamas has acted to prevent Israel and international organizations from delivering relief to innocent people. That needs to change and the world should demand it.
As for the word “genocide”, there is a specific and established definition of what that word means, and that is not happening in Gaza by Israel. Not even close. It is a ridiculously grotesque characterization of the definition. This is something that mainstream Democrats all acknowledge. Why anyone would feel pumped up because MTG is on their side is a very peculiar questions.
Hamas though is open about it’s desires and plans to commit genocide against the Jewish people though, so at least should be a baseline though for those who are confused about the definition, such as MTG and her new allies on the Far Left to consider.

Hardliners in Bibi’s Cabinet are irrelevant to the misuse of a definition that people use for anti-Semitic purposes. Israel has said those hardliners do not represent the views of the government, and based on what Israel has done to try to help civilians is obviously true.
One can still be opposed to Netanyahu’s policies without falling into league with those who do not want Israel to exist.
What we can see in regards to the Israeli Cabinet issue is that Israel is a democracy and democracies can be very messy. Netanyahu had to make these deals to stay in power. It shows the weaknesses of a parliamentary democratic system, such as exists in many places over the world, compared to what we have here in America.

Why would you or others on the left think that MTG is right on the “genocide” term and mainstream Democrats like Joe Biden, Kamala Harris, Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, Nancy Pelosi, etc, etc, etc are wrong?

In all the numbers they cite, even if one wants to foolishly believe they are being completely honest and accurate, they admit that they make no distinction among Hamas fighters and innocent civilians. Nonetheless, it has to be pointed out that Gaza did (0nce) elect Hamas, which promptly canceled elections. So, in a way those who voted for them did sign up for this. Hamas has made its intentions to kill every Jew on Earth very clear for decades. So, the problems there are far more the fault of the government they put in power and less those of the neighboring state which was attacked without provocation and is merely trying to survive itself.

I generally don’t get involved in these discussions because while I am far from an expert on the situation I think Hamas are murderous terrorists and Netanyahu seems to want the obliteration of Gaza.
The latter is becoming clear to Israel as protests against leadership are increasing.
I want the people of Israel to live in peace.
I want Palestinians and those in Gaza to live in peace.
Neither Hamas nor current Israeli leadership wants that.
One can legitimately attempt to argue a position that “Israel has gone too far in their efforts to defeat Hamas” and find those who strongly agree or strongly disagree but that is different than saying “Israel is committing genocide” which is completely debunked by the very definition of the word “genocide.”
Those who throw around a word that is so easily debunked only adds fuel to the fire and shuts down those who would otherwise wish to have a more factual based debate.
It’s really no different than a difference in argument such as “Donald Trump should have been elected over Joe Biden in 2020” vs. “Donald Trump had the 2020 election stolen from him.”
