The man IS LOSING the public’s approval day by DAY…..

He must be doing a LOT of Things Wrong, eh?

And Young voters , who surprisingly switched to him from Biden/Harris have now walked away from they guy they thought would be better….

He isn’t….

Since Donald Trump took office for his second term, his job ratings have markedly declined — and more with young people than any other age group. What has made so many young Americans change their minds so quickly?

For context, President Trump’s electoral performance with voters under 30 improved a lot in 2024: While he lost this group to former Vice President Kamala Harris, it was by a much smaller margin than in 2020. And men under 30 ended up splitting roughly evenly between Trump and Harris. These trends prompted some observers to marvel at how conservative Gen Z had become, especially young men, and to wonder whether it marked a durable change.

About half a year on from Inauguration Day, many young people have changed their minds on Trump. It looks more like many young voters gave him the benefit of the doubt when he took office, but their evaluations of him quickly started to sink. Among Americans ages 18-29, his job approval rating has fallen from a high of 55% just after he was inaugurated to 28% now. That means that half of his former approvers now disapprove. In percentage-point terms, the size of that drop is more than double what we’ve seen in any other age group….

Instead of marking a permanent rightward shift, Mr. Trump’s better-than-expected performance with young voters last year is beginning to look more like a temporary reaction. Indeed, less partisan voters tend to be more responsive to short-term forces, like the economic conditions that drove many at the ballot box in 2024. And when Trump was inaugurated, many young people hoped he would turn the economy around, with his initial ratings likely reflecting some optimism. This honeymoon period quickly faded. His 18-29 rating is now below Joe Biden’s when he left office.

Looking ahead to 2026, Republicans’ electoral success may depend on both the president’s numbers and youth turnout. If views of Mr. Trump’s job handling don’t improve over the next year, they could be a drag on GOP congressional candidates. And while young voters are less likely to turn out in non-presidential years, both the 2018 and 2022 midterms saw record numbers go to the polls, including voters under 30. In fact, in 2022, young voters turned out at a rate that came close to saving the Democrats’ majority. In a tight contest, they could be pivotal again….

  5. on FL Gov, I just think most people do not yet know that Donalds has the endorsement of the other Donald.

    That is what will make the difference. I doubt Mrs. DeSantis even runs. The only other alternative is that there are a lot of racists who do not care who Trump endorses, but that did not seem to matter in Georgia with Herschel Walker for instance.

  7. What you don’t say about Trumps falling poll numbers is that among Republicans,his approval rating remains around 90% where it has been for years.

    Trump cares far more about that than his overall ratings .Hes never running again .

    As long as he retains his iron grip on the Republican Party( your irrelevant claims that Republicans “ really” don’t like him notwithstanding) ,he can essentially do pretty much what he wants,

    Mace, who last year won her third term representing South Carolina’s 1st District, made her run official during a launch event Monday at The Citadel military college in Charleston. She plans to start a statewide series of town halls later this week with an event in Myrtle Beach.

    • Trump will likely endorse whomever outgoing Governor Henry McMaster asks him to.

      McMaster was the first statewide elected official in the country( he was Lt. Governor then) to endorse Trump in 2016 and has been a loyal MAGAite ever since..Trump rewards that kind of support

      Since McMaster chose Pam Evette as his LT.Gov. Running mate in 2022, most observers see her as the likely beneficiary of Trumps support.

      Mace has been trying to to get back in his good graces ever since her blasting him after Jan. 6.

      Finally, they can read you know and those polls you report here show that around 90% of Republicans support Trump.

          Republicans have shown time and again that when Trump growls they scurry for cover,most notably the recent “ big beautiful bill.”

          Some Republican Congresspeople were all over the airwaves claiming they were seriously thinking about opposing the bill,notably some of those Texas blabbermouths like Chip Roy.Trump made a few not so veiled threats and the rabble quickly folded up.

          This has happened over and over again.

          Anyway what does “ support “ mean to you?

  14. Proportionally speaking, very few incumbents lose elections, especially with far few two-party competitive states and districts. So, it is in the political interest of the vast majority of Republicans to be un-yielding pro-Trump. You go to any 2026 Republican candidate website, regardless of state, and almost all are focused on how much they love Trump.

    Now, some Republicans may lose their jobs to Democrats. Those that are loyal to Trump know that they might then wind up getting a job working for the Administration or in the party-affiliated private sector in regards to lobbying, business, or media. They also have spouses and children and other relatives to think about whose professional lives may depend on not becoming a party pariah. In many cases, those jobs pay a lot more money anyway.

    So, as long as Trump controls the Republican Party, there is very little incentive to break with him, even if it might mean losing an election.

    I was never an elected official, but my break with my former party, out of principle, definitely cost me a lot in terms of personal and political relationships and potential opportunities for financial gain.

    If replicated in other red states, this might produce the mirror-image of the Deep South before 1964 and 1994, where Republicans in Dixie were deprived of any useful representation.
    Of course, one might say the same for New England Republicans, who are certainly here, even in deep-blue Rhode Island, which hasn’t sent a Republican (Ron Machtley) to Congress since 1992 and Massachusetts, who last sent one in the 1994 (Peter Blute and Peter Torkildsen). U.S. Senators can’t be gerrymandered, so both states have elected Republican ones more recently (Lincoln Chafee and Scott Brown).

And even apart from the ethics, people are just not going to give out sensitive (and sometimes painful) information about their income, their wealth, their health, their mental conditions, their work-history, their relatives, their encounters with the law, their voting history or their citizenship and migration status if they can’t rest asssured that it stays confidential and isn’t seen by anyone outside the agency they’re dealing with.

    When I took the 1980 and 1990 Censuses, I felt pretty comfortable telling respondents that the Census was just accumulating anonymous information to assemble statistics and count population for electoral apportionment. Now I very much fear that the Census is next. It happened in 1940, when FDR’s government wanted to find Japanese and Japanese-Americans to intern.

  20. SCCongressman and Gubernatorial candidate Ralph ( Marshall law) Norman admits prices are rising but says it’s all “ good for the country “( presumably in contrast to when prices were rising under Biden) .

    And in total servility to his owner ,Trump,the clown called him one of the really great Presidents.Of course Norman has some chest crawling to do as he endorsed Nikki Haley for President last year.( Nikki returned the favor and endorsed him right after his announcement of his gubernatorial candidacy).

    His opponents are likely to make a little hay over his pronouncement about rising prices being “ good” and it’s likely one can expect more curious comments from Ralph as the campaign progresses.

                • No, he won’t be too busy as Governor after he is reelected to run for President. It is a one party dominated state. Continuing to be Governor is part of his calculus for 2028, even though some advised him against running for another term.

                  Other Governors in both parties who are likely to reelected in 2026 might also run for President, such as Josh Shapiro and Wes Moore.

                  I do not know why this seems so foreign to you. All sorts of Governors in both parties, have run for President in the past, right after winning election.

                  The last two Governors to win the White House, Bill Clinton, and George W. Bush, ran after being reelected. In Clinton’s case, he said during his reelection campaign that he would not run for President, yet still did.

  27. This particular poll seems to show him down slightly among Republicans and up slightly among Independents. Sort of a wash. Just anecdotally, I do not really sense that he has lost much of his base. The overall numbers are about where they were for his first term, or maybe even a little higher. Of course, he tries his best every day to change the subject to fit the political narrative to his desires and Democrats always seem to help go along with that.

    The people that voted for him in 2024 reluctantly are probably not any bigger fans they were before, but they probably aren’t itching to vote for Democrats either these days.

    Democrats could have a big midterm showing if their base voters (which these days includes the highly educated) show up to vote but we should face the facts, this sudden rash of redistricting that has happened in Texas and is going to also probably happen in other Republican states will make flipping the House a good deal more difficult. It will probably come down to a couple of seats.

  28. I told a friend of mine that I would help them out by signing a petition for a candidate running for State Senate. This would be the first time I ever signed a D position and I do not exactly love the idea of having my name and signature on a document that says something like “affiliated with Democrat”, but it is only a petition and I feel like I have already done crazier things for that party on actual ballots.

    Of course back in the day, I used to gather signatures for lots of Republican candidates in Cook County. I always followed the rules completely and was never arrested or indicted for it.
