The running number of people not getting their second virus shot seems to be almost 1/3 of the ones getting their first shot….
The reasons for this are varied….
And for some….
Not for trying….
Millions of Americans are not getting the second doses of their Covid-19 vaccines, and their ranks are growing.
More than five million people, or nearly 8 percent of those who got a first shot of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, have missed their second doses, according to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. That is more than double the rate among people who got inoculated in the first several weeks of the nationwide vaccine campaign.
Even as the country wrestles with the problem of millions of people who are wary about getting vaccinated at all, local health authorities are confronting an emerging challenge of ensuring that those who do get inoculated are doing so fully.
The reasons vary for why people are missing their second shots. In interviews, some said they feared the side effects, which can include flulike symptoms. Others said they felt that they were sufficiently protected with a single shot.
Those attitudes were expected, but another hurdle has been surprisingly prevalent. A number of vaccine providers have canceled second-dose appointments because they ran out of supply or didn’t have the right brand in stock….

Even one shot gives a significant level of protection.
Why don’t you get one and then worry about that second one virus spreader?

It makes no sensed that millions of Americans whose parents had the good sense to vaccinate them against measles mumps smallpox and polio suddenly think they know better than medicine and science.

CDC on second dose numbers
About 1 in 12 Americans haven’t gotten their second scheduled dose of COVID-19 vaccine on time, and while that worries epidemiologists, the follow-through is far better than other adult two-dose vaccines.
According to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 92% of people who got the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine made it back for their second shot.
Experts noted such completion numbers for the two-dose regime of the most widely used vaccines against the coronavirus are a cause for celebration….
…
The more people who are fully vaccinated with these powerfully effective COVID-19 vaccines, the better. Of the first 75 million Americans to be fully vaccinated with both doses only 5,800 had breakthrough infections afterward, according to the CDC….
…
Public health officials always knew a two-dose vaccination campaign for adults was going to be hard. Children get many vaccines that require multiple shots, but because they see their pediatricians fairly frequently, they are easier to administer.
Getting adults to come back for second shots is tricky.

‘A tough call’: Biden considering mandatory Covid vaccines for U.S. troops

The comments from the commander in chief come as the Pentagon has sounded the alarm about service members refusing the vaccine in large numbers, with roughly one-third of troops declining to take the shot as of February, according to congressional testimony from military officials. Earlier this month, the Pentagon reported that nearly 40 percent of Marines who had been offered the vaccine turned it down…

Three vaccines — from drugmakers Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson — are currently in use in the U.S. under emergency authorizations from the FDA. Anthony Fauci, the nation’s top infectious disease expert and Biden’s chief medical adviser, told CNN on Wednesday that he hopes the agency grants the shots full approval “very soon.”

I’m not a veteran, but don’t the armed forces already order their members to take any number of shots and vaccinations for other diseases and infections?
During World War I, thousands of recruits died in training camps from meningitis, a disease that is classically highly transmissible within close-confined areas. The troops, sailors and airmen who decline the vaccine are immediate perils to their comrades (remember those cruise ships that were isolated and then overrun by Covid-19?)

Biden said in the Q & A he leave it up to the Pentagon….
I’d think if there are large number hesitant he’d NOT want to cause problems with the troops and rheir families as long as the infection rate is dropping….
