Elon Musk’s threat to support a small 3rd political party primary attack from the Right against the Grand ole Party, if actually done?
Could just be enough to hand Democrats the US House next year…..
And?
The US Senate maybe?
Elon Musk is threatening to primary Republicans who voted for President Trump’s “big, beautiful bill,” posing a challenge for the president and his allies as they look to defy midterm headwinds.
Musk vowed earlier this week that Republicans who supported Trump’s megabill “will lose their primary next year if it is the last thing I do on this Earth” as the Tesla CEO has reignited his feud with Trump in recent days.
Republicans see the comments as unhelpful, with some saying if the threats come to fruition, it could risk diverting resources away in an election environment that historically hasn’t been kind to the president’s party in power.
“One of the most destructive behaviors that we’ve had in cycles where we’ve been unsuccessful in Senate races … are those in which we have expended massive resources in intraparty warfare,” said one Republican consultant who’s worked on Senate races.
Ever since Musk ended his stint at the White House, the billionaire has been a vocal critic of Trump’s major policy bill, taking particular issue with the projected trillions of dollars multiple analyses say will add to the deficit….
…
“Unless and until Musk can start lining up some A-team candidates or credible people or people in the same wing of the party, he’s going nowhere,” said top GOP donor Eric Levine, who described Massie as “fringe.”
…
Other Republicans suggest it may not be long before Trump and Musk are back on good terms again.
While it’s too soon to say how serious Musk might be about his primary threats, the moves would be an unnecessary obstacle for the party.
“I hope that he doesn’t, obviously, because I think that primary fights normally don’t do anything but strengthen the opposition,” said longtime GOP donor Bill Bean….
Third parties have been unsuccessful in the past in electing Senate and Congressional candidates .
Even when Perot got 19% of the vote in 1992,his Reform Party failed to elect a single member to Congress.True Perot did little to help anyone but himself on his Reform Party ticket.
Musk has plenty of money but ,so far at least ,has shown no political aptitude in organizing a political party, recruiting members or running and financing candidates. Can he do so as 2026 approaches?
Musk has shown himself to be more talk than action so color me skeptical as to his latest “ thing.”
Agreed…….
His boat HAS Sailed….
And Trump COULD cut the floor from under his
Businesses
Yeah other than Jesse Ventura bring elected Governor of Minnesota in 1998 the Reform Party had zero luck in electing candidates under it’s banner. And even Jesse quit the party in 2000 when it nominated far right winger Pat Buchanan for President. His preferred candidate? The then much more liberal Donald Trump.
America for MOST part IS about the two major parties…..
Who knows?
Maybe with his money?
Elon could mount strong primary counters that could help the Democrats make even stronger gains next November….
There is a strong and will be an increasing desire for a third party to stand as an alternative against the increasing extremism in both major parties. However, this Elon Musk effort is not going to be the vehicle.
He thinks there is a “uniparty” because he is upset at the passage of the recent bill Every Democrat voted against the bill and almost every Republican voted for it, so what he is saying does not make much sense. He thinks the bill did not go far enough. So, I just do not think how you can sell a message that both parties are “too alike.” People would be far more likely to believe that there are aspects of both parties in which they are very wrong on various issues.
With this effort, if he is serious, Musk can probably only hurt Republicans in the short-term. Many of his own supporters were left-leaning previously but joined him in supporting Trump. Even more consequential was all the money he spent to elect Republicans in 2024, and which the party was depending on continuing, and if he is serious, that will now be gone.
He has to aiming for disappointed GOPer’s
His appeal is NOT to Democrats
I pretty much agree with this assessment.
There’s been hunger for a third party for decades. But Musk isn’t the right person to capitalize on it.
Nope….
But we’ll see…..
This could splinter the Trump coalition further going into the midterms.
.
Republicans used to be the party that turned up every election.
But that was before Trump remade the coalition around the poorly educated that turn our for him but not in midterm and special elections.
If Musk’s “America Party” actually puts up some state and congressional candidates’s still a big if–it could hurt the GOP in certain close races.
Your quote….
‘If Musk’s “America Party” actually puts up some state and congressional candidates’s still a big if–it could hurt the GOP in certain close races.’…
IS EXACTLY What Musk is aiming for….
All he need’s IS a few seats in each chamber….
Remember the old adage?
Democrats fall in love,
but
Republicans fall in line.
Morning…….
BTW?
Newsom IS due to visit South Carolina this week…….
Hmmmmmmmm
Morning….
Morning……
