With ALL below we’re pretty sure Donald Trump WILL be acquitted by Republicans even after the proof of him sending the protester’s after the members of the US Senate jury, who had to run for their lives…
Republican senators say they were riveted by new video from the House impeachment managers showing the attacks on the Capitol and how close rioters got to lawmakers.
The House impeachment managers, as part of their presentation on Wednesday, showed never-before-seen video of lawmakers and former Vice President Mike Pence evacuating the Senate chamber as well as close calls for Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Mitt Romney(R-Utah).
The videos appeared to emotionally resonate with GOP senators but did not necessarily sway their final decision on convicting Trump. Most senators were in the chamber when it was locked down on Jan. 6 as rioters breached the building and effectively watched their own escape as part of the House presentation. …
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-Utah) told reporters on Wednesday that he thanked Officer Eugene Goodman for directing him to safety during the Capitol riot on Jan. 6.
“I expressed my appreciation to him for coming to my aid and getting me back into the path of safety and express my appreciation for all that he did that day,” Romney said he told Goodman. …
The second day of former President Trump‘s impeachment trial ended in chaos after an effort by Sen. Mike Lee (R-Utah) to remove remarks by the House impeachment managers from the official record sparked widespread confusion….
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) said on Wednesday that she couldn’t imagine that former President Trump would be elected again after voters see the details and new footage of the Capitol attack.
“After the American public sees the full story laid out here … I don’t see how Donald Trump could be reelected to the presidency again,” Murkowski told reporters.
Murkowski’s comments come as House impeachment managers are hours into their opening presentations….

Yesterday there was a “lean” against conviction.
Now?”pretty sure”
I’m interested n the “thought” processes here. What exactly changed between Tuesday and yesterday?
Please describe what you heard and saw that caused you to reach this “conclusion.”

GOP legislators sold their souls. Don’t expect an epiphany now
Donald Trump owns the party’s voters, and so he owns them, too.

Sen.Roy Blunt described Trumps defense as “our side.”
Certainly, an unintended truth!
Scott P says
And yet even that level of lap dog is not enough to keep Blunt from having to worry about a primary from even more Trump bootlicking Eric Greitens.
Just who could be construed as the “anti-Trump” candidate in that Republican primary??

Yes there’s a lot of talk here and elsewhere of anti Trump candidates confronting Trumpists in Republican primaries next year. That might be true in some northern states where a streak of moderate Republicanism has traditionally existed(although even there I think it will be limited.)
However ,in the south and near south stares like Missouri,I expect to see Republican primaries among candidates boasting that they are “more supportive “ of Trump than their opponents.
In S.C. the pro Trump extremism is such that the Aiken County Republican Party ,one of the most Right wing counties in this very Right Wing State, is contemplating a resolution of censure against both Sens Lindsay Graham and Tim Scott for being “insufficiently “ supportive of Trump!
I see little prospect of openly anti Trump candidacies here next year.

Sit back and watch as the same party that rowed together begin to eat their own….

Fifty-two percent of registered voters say the Senate should convict former President Trump in his impeachment trial and bar him from running for office, a new Hill-HarrisX poll finds.
Forty-eight percent of those who responded in the Feb. 8-9 survey said …

A 52-48 break is hardly notable after 3 days of the impeachment managers and only a couple of hours from Trump’s managers.
Perhaps a poll taken after Jamie Raskin closed would be sharper, but the defense case — with the attendant spin by sycophantic or spineless Republican officeholders — could just as easily flip the balance to 48-52.
And obviously the margin of error could cloud which side the public favours.

The important poll numbers ARE the ones Jack reminds us about form the faithful….

They have dropped but not enough for a conviction…
