Walsh, who is running against Donald Trump in 2020 for President, isn’t gonna take the nomination away from Donald Trump….
But his carping IS gonna picked up and amplified by the media as one would expect giving Walsh MORE attention (Good and Bad) …Not less…
Former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), who has launched a primary bid against President Trump in 2020, blasted the Republican Party on Friday for allowing state parties to cancel primaries and caucuses, calling it “undemocratic BS.”
“This is not North Korea or Russia. Donald Trump is trying to eliminate elections,” Walsh told MSNBC’s Ari Melber.
“He wants to eliminate primary elections right now in four states: Arizona, Nevada, South Carolina and Kansas,” he continued.
“That is undemocratic BS. It’s wrong and that’s the kind of thing that should piss off Republican voters.”
Walsh was a vocal supporter of Trump during his 2016 campaign and in the early part of his presidency but had grown increasingly critical of him before announcing his GOP primary challenge.
The former Republican congressman has sought to explain numerous past comments he has made on Twitter, including calling President Obama a Muslim and other comments he has conceded were “a little bit racist.”

Walsh was really ripped by Bill Maher last night.
Maher correctly pointed out that Walsh supports most of Trumps agenda, a point I’ve mad here about Republicans in general.
They mostly support Trumps positions and ,in many cases(tariffs, Russia etc) , have abandoned long held positions to support Trumps.Maher continued to castigate Walsh for his barely concealed racial antagonism toward Obama which Walsh continues to deny ,even while conceding that his language was often inflammatory and over the top.
Walsh was reduced to simply stating that he didn’t like Trump. That ,so far, , hasn’t been shown to be a big issue among Republicans, who seem to continue to support him even if they personally dislike him.

Attention…..
Good AND Bad, eh?

I think you missed some significant parts of what Walsh said, although he didn’t have much time to talk.
The overall theme of the campaign though is that Trump is unfit morally. Deviating from that is not going to serve a purpose. He is not trying to say, as you believe, that pre-Trump conservatism is so horrible.

My main point is that Walsh saying that Trump is a bad guy is something that seems irrelevant to the vast majority of Republicans.
Scott P says
Remember Walsh claimed he was “sick and tired of Sandy Hook parents”.
I’m glad he’s eunning
and beating up on Trump from the right but he’s not really that different from him.
jamesb says
Again?
Good and BAD Attention….
jamesb says
Let’s see if Trump throws some tweets at Walsh which would give him MORE air time….
The Mooch has gone silent for now and Eeld is the invisible man?
CG says
The Mooch has been increasing his vitriol actually.
My Name Is Jack says
No he’s not.
The main point of this “candidacy “ in my view is to secure a more prominent media position for Walsh when this little diversion ends.
He likely will be successful too.I would imagine that he would be a prime candidate for either MSNBC or CNN as an articulate anti Trump Republican
jamesb says
If Trump’s numbers continue to show trouble for himself i could see others saying they are good Republicans but they think Trump’s actions are wrong and dangerous…
They will not . as u pint out Jack, knock basic GOPer policy ….
Yup!
CG says
If Trump loses, will there really be a market for an “anti-Trump” conservative anymore? The media and the left will move on to other things.
So will right-wing talk radio. It would have been far more lucrative financially for Walsh to have followed the Limbaugh/Hannity/Levin model.
Perhaps if Trump wins again..
My Name Is Jack says
Oh I expect to see Walsh as a regular “ contributor “ within weeks after his “ candidacy “ ends.
He might even be a commentator at the Republican National Convention.
Then ,if Trump loses,Walsh will become the GOPer who was” right.”
No,he’s playing this deal well.
CG says
We already know that. It doesn’t mean that it doesn’t need to be said.
And yes, many know it, but have chosen not to say it.

The S.C. Republican Party Executive Committee ,in an almost unanimous vote this morning, has decided Not to hold a presidential primary next year.
Whether this effects Mark Sanford’s putative candidacy remains to be seen.
In S.C., state law leaves the holding of primaries up to each party.
Accordingly, by this vote, there will be No Republican presidential primary here.
jamesb says
you called this Jack…
Props….

Really, it wasn’t a difficult call. The SC Republican Party organization ,though not all people who call themselves Republicans,is totally pro Trump.
Remember the titular head of the party,Gov. Henry McMaster, was the first major Republican officeholder in the country to support Trump in 2016.
Also, Mark Sanford is really disliked by most of the party apparatus and they figured why give him a showcase in a home state primary?
CG says
For well over a year, people within the Trump controlled RNC have been trying to cancel primaries all over the country.
My Name Is Jack says
I expect others to be cancelled too.
Some will have to go forward though because of state laws.
