First Read: “Finally, last night’s result could very well scare off a handful of GOP incumbents who are on the fence about running in 2018. The good news for Republicans is that many filing deadlines have already passed. The bad news is that one or two more GOP retirements in semi-competitive districts could end up proving decisive in November’s race for control of Congress. That’s maybe why Republicans have been spinning the results so much — essentially saying, ‘Hey, last night wasn’t THAT bad’ — so they can prevent more retirements.”…

Why? According to the President?, Paul Ryan, FOX News, and our own “not much of a Republican” prognosticator on here Lamb won because he was basically a Republican.
Apparently supporting the ACA, standing up to the NRA on background checks, opposing tax cuts for the rich and supporting Roe v Wade are all planks in the GOP platform now.
Who knew the Rockefeller Republicans not only came back from being extinct but took over the party!

His record on endorsements would prove that he’s a LOSER….
Democratic Socialist Dave says
As one of the cable news talking-heads (MSNBC or CNN) noted yesterday, the GOP, the RCCC and their donors spent a ton of money and air time in the Pa 18th blasting Lamb as no conservative and the far-left, out-of-touch tool of Nancy Pelosi.
Now they’re spinning by saying that both candidates ran as conservatives.

Rep. Bill Flores (R-TX) announced that he will not seek another term in Congress, the fifth Texas Republican to announce his retirement ahead of next year’s elections, the Texas Tribune reports.
“Retirements often happen around long stretches of recess. The first flood of Texans came as Congress let out for August recess. House Republicans have in recent days openly acknowledged that they anticipate more retirements to come as Congress returns to Washington next week.”

Rep. Jim Sensenbrenner (R-WI) announced he will not seek reelection, The Hill reports.
Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: “The 76-year-old congressman has long represented the GOP’s geographic base in Wisconsin — the suburban, exurban and rural communities north and west of Milwaukee County that historically turn out in droves for Republican candidates and provide a large share of the party’s activists and political leaders.”

Rep. Paul Cook (R-Calif.) will retire at the end of his term in 2020 and announce a run for a seat on the San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The big picture: Cook is the 18th Republican overall to retire from the House during this term, but it’s worth noting that his district remains distinctly tilted toward the GOP despite Democratic investment in the area….

Longtime Rep. Peter King, R-N.Y., announced Monday he will retire from Congress at the end of his term.
“I have decided not to be a candidate for re-election to Congress in 2020,” King, 75, said in a statement. “I made this decision after much discussion with my wife Rosemary; my son Sean; and my daughter Erin. The prime reason for my decision was that after 28 years of spending 4 days a week in Washington, D.C., it is time to end the weekly commute and be home in Seaford.”
King, who has represented a Long Island district for more than 25 years, added that retirement “was not an easy decision.”
