@ Daily Kos…On Saturday, young people and their allies will participate in hundreds of demonstrations in support of gun-reform sanity as part of the March for Our Lives. Click here to find one in your locale.
The march was inspired by the activism of students at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, where 14 students and three staff and teachers were gunned down on Valentine’s Day. Among them are senior Emma González, and junior Cameron Kasky. They and others have been working for the past five weeks to generate support for an action designed to pressure elected leaders on the federal and state levels to transform the massacre into legislation that reduces gun-related violence and all the horror and pain that comes with it.
“Not one more,” the march’s Mission Statement reads. “We cannot allow one more child to be shot at school. We cannot allow one more teacher to make a choice to jump in front of a firing assault rifle to save the lives of students. We cannot allow one more family to wait for a call or text that never comes. Our schools are unsafe. Our children and teachers are dying. We must make it our top priority to save these lives.”

At “March for Our Lives” rallies across the U.S., congressional Democrats joined in calls demanding swift action on gun control more than a month after a deadly school shooting in Parkland, Fla., lent momentum to the debate over firearms…

A safe place for some Democrats to support gun control,…

Republicans must have looked at the faces on stage and in the crowd in D.C. and seen their worst fears, that it’s only a matter of time before a pluralist younger generation supplants the older generations that have supported the G.O.P., and most recently Trump, for the past half-century.
Reince Priebus and Michael Steele (when they were chairs of the RNC) were right about the long-term demographic future of an unchanged Republican Party, although Sean Trende in RealClearPolitics may have been right in the short term.

Just a few years ago Republicans said they needed to ‘embrace’ the young and black, brown and yellow Americans….
THAT went out the window with Trump making it alright to accept support from the anti-right …..
The GOP under Trump and the GOP majority has turned a deaf ear to the MAJORITY of America
A President elected by a minority of votes but trying to run things like a rich guy fed by only Fox News ain’t helping either…
But in the end DSD?
How many of these in the streets today will show up and VOTE?
That is bottom line
The VOTE
jamesb says
I forgot DSD….
In looking at the pictures of the crowds today?
There was thousands of white kids marching
Will THEY vote those GOPer’s who use the 2nd Amedment against their safety in school?
Zreebs says
Yes

I Mean they will vote – and if you show up to these rallies, you are motivated to vote on that issue. Guns are an issue that helped elect Republicans in the past. But the times – they are changing.

Midterm election is 7 months away Z….
I hope you are RIGHT….

Post will be forth coming on the subject….

Sort of like how Republicans used opposition to marriage equality to harvest votes…until the tide changed and they couldn’t.
