President Trump said on Tuesday that the bulk of American aid to Israel would be “cut off at the end of the year,” under an agreement reached with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu months ago. He described the Election Day declaration chiefly as a political effort to take a “bad talking point” away from the left wing of the Democratic Party.
“We were giving them 4 billion,” Mr. Trump told Brian Kilmeade of Fox News in a morning interview, just as polls were opening on the East Coast. “We are. But it gets cut off at the end of the year.”
Instead, he described a different agreement in which Israel would pay for weaponry from the United States. The move comes as Congress was already considering phasing out the aid and instead undertaking a far more integrated defense and technology partnership built around legally mandated defense industrial cooperation between the two nations. Such a partnership could be lucrative for Israel through joint projects with the Defense Department and American military contractors.
Mr. Netanyahu has spoken in recent months about moving away from the aid from the United States, but has not laid out a timetable. But the current memorandum of understanding with Israel does not expire until 2028; Mr. Trump seemed to suggest on Tuesday canceling it two years early, with Israel’s consent. Mr. Netanyahu’s office did not immediately comment on the president’s statement….

One U.S. official described Monday’s military action as a “defensive measure” intended to protect U.S. troops from Iranian forces using surface-to-air missiles. Another said the strikes hit Iranian missile launchers.
It was the latest instance of U.S. forces conducting airstrikes in recent weeks without disclosing them publicly, officials said, a notable break with what had been routine practice earlier in the Iran war. It’s also the latest example of the Pentagon under Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth withholding information that could be politically damaging to him, President Donald Trump or the Republican Party.
Speaking Tuesday to reporters about the Qeshm Island attack, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi accused the U.S. of ongoing aggression but expressed commitment to diplomatic negotiations continuing through Qatari mediators. He said Tehran retains the right to self-defense and “is prepared for any scenario,” the semiofficial Tasnim News Agency reported….

U.S. forces continued to secretly carry out airstrikes over the past few weeks, officials said, a revelation reported earlier Monday by the Wall Street Journal. The strikes have been defensive in nature and generally focused on targeting Iran’s ability to launch attacks on ships in the Persian Gulf region, the officials said…..

ISW…Iran Update, November 2, 2026
- Recent Houthi advances in Lahij Governorate are part of a Houthi campaign that is designed to confront the internationally recognized government of Yemen with simultaneous dilemmas intended to undermine its ability to prioritize and respond to threats on multiple fronts. Houthi forces may struggle to consolidate their gains in exposed terrain, particularly if government-aligned forces can sustain air support and reinforce threatened positions.
- Houthi forces advancing into al Maqatirah District are threatening government reinforcement and resupply routes on multiple fronts. The Houthis’ establishment of positions in al Maqatirah District and possible future advances south threaten Aden City and, as such, are likely designed to impose a dilemma on government forces as to whether to divert forces from other fronts and efforts. Government forces are currently fighting against the Houthis south of Taiz City in an effort to break the Houthi encirclement of Taiz City and along the Red Sea coastal front in order to recapture territory near the Bab al Mandeb.
- The Houthis may struggle to sustain advances south toward the coastal plain if the Yemeni government receives sufficient air and military support.
- Senior Iranian officials met with Russian President Vladimir Putin and senior People’s Republic of China (PRC) officials on November 2, likely to ensure Iran’s political and military alignment with its primary political and defense partners amid recent reports about imminent US plans to attack Iran. Both Russia and the PRC have previously supported Iran’s regional attack campaign by providing Iran with targeting intelligence and satellite imagery of US military positions. Russia almost certainly cannot provide Iran with significant material or financial support due to its own ongoing constraints, however.
