While the immigration issue WAS useful for Trump’s re-election?

And even against Texas Governor Abbott who helped Trump with his exporting immigrants to Blue states….
Both Trump and Abbott seem top be facing a blow back from Hispanic and other voters who do NOT like the mass drop-ins, grabs and deportations that have been spotlighted in the media and among voters, even in Red States…
Trump pleasing the MAGA’s on the policy IS hurt others and has Republican lawmakers uneasy and worried….
Republican senators say President Trump has fumbled the issue of immigration, something that was an advantage for GOP candidates in 2024 but is now a growing political liability for their party.
Several GOP senators told The Hill that Trump’s deportation policy has gone too far and warn that it’s hurting Republican candidates with suburban and Hispanic voters.
“Once you start deporting people who have otherwise been here without incident for 15, 20 years, that’s a gray zone that I think where you find a lot of division of opinion,” said Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas).
“I always thought that this idea of mass deportations sent the wrong message,” he added.
A nationwide Fox News poll of 1,211 registered voters conducted from Sept. 11-14 found that 53 percent of voters thought the Trump administration’s enforcement of immigration laws had gone too far.
Of those who said deportations had gone too far, 45 percent said the government was using too much force, while 49 percent said the wrong people were being targeted….

“If you’re going to put somebody through that, you better be damn sure you have a justified basis for doing it,” he said of immigration enforcement sweeps that have caught up citizens and green-card holders.
An investigation by ProPublica found that more than 170 U.S. citizens have been held by immigration agents, including some Americans who have been tackled, beaten and shocked with Tasers by federal immigration enforcement officers.
“Aside from it being politically dumb, it’s immoral, in my opinion,” Tillis said.

An NBC News/Telemundo poll of 800 Hispanic voters conducted from Sept. 21-28 found that only 27 percent of them approved of Trump, while 69 percent disapproved.
The survey revealed 7 in 10 Hispanic voters disapproved of Trump’s handling of immigration and that 20 percent of Hispanic voters who backed Trump in 2024 now said they do not prefer a GOP-controlled Congress….
