The stories ARE gonna be coming out folks….
Forget fighting Iran….
A U.S. Navy destroyer went four days without power in the South China Sea last month, leaving sailors aboard without toilets, air conditioning, galley service and potable water, according to the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet.
The USS Benfold, an Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer, experienced loss of power following an “engineering casualty” on July 24 in the Indo-Pacific.
No crew members were injured in the incident, but they “demonstrated resilience, grit, professionalism and unwavering steadiness in their response,” Cmdr. Matthew Comer, a U.S. 7th Fleet spokesperson, said in a statement to The Hill on Tuesday.
According to Comer, the Benfold — which is equipped with the Aegis Combat System suite, anti-aircraft missiles and anti-submarine rockets — got support from the George Washington carrier strike group, including meals from Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Robert Smalls.
The USS George Washington, a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier also in the Indo-Pacific, was earlier this month ordered to head to the U.S. Central Command (Centcom) theater as the Pentagon looks to replace the USS Abraham Lincoln amid news reports of poor conditions aboard the aircraft carrier.
Benfold was towed by contracted tugboats on July 28 into Subic Bay, Philippines, for repairs, where it was worked on by the U.S. Naval Ship Repair Facility and Japan Regional Maintenance Center. There, the crew was given food and contracted lodging off the ship the next day.
Comer said the ship’s power was restored on July 30, and all of the “required” repairs were done before the destroyer completed a berth shift for fuel on Aug. 7.
The destroyer left Subic Bay on Aug. 8 with all engineering, combat systems and crew support systems “functioning normally” to resume routine operations in U.S. 7th Fleet, Comer said. ….
Note….
Modern warships ARE BIG and complex…..
There IS always something wrong on board I’d bet…..
