That IS complicating things for him….
Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) is seen as a rising star in his party, and many of his admirers think he could be a strong presidential candidate, pointing to his successes in Pennsylvania.

“He would be my top pick, but he’s not getting through a primary,” said one longtime Democratic donor, who described themselves as a fan of Shapiro but spoke of concerns that the party’s base may not support a candidate who is an observant Jew and self-proclaimed Zionist. “It will be his biggest obstacle, no doubt.”

“There are Democratic activists who have it as their No. 1 priority and also primary voters who care about this issue a lot,” he said.
Shapiro spokesperson Manuel Bonder in a statement said Shapiro was focused on his own reelection this year.
“Governor Shapiro is focused on continuing to lower costs, making our communities safer, delivering results for Pennsylvanians – and winning up and down the ballot in 2026,” he said. “In order to put a stop to Donald Trump’s chaos, cruelty, and corruption, we need to win elections – and no one should be looking past 2026.”
Shapiro hasn’t shied away from taking a firm position on Israel — even as sentiment within the Democratic Party has significantly shifted….
