It’s not clear if Monday’s report involves any ICE agents. It’s also not clear how many Border Patrol agents will be leaving.

Republican senators call for transparency in shooting investigation
“We have a right to free speech, to peaceably assemble and to bear arms. We also expect government to protect us from lawless behavior,” [ Kansas Republican Sen.Jerry ] Moran said.
Sen. John Curtis (R-Utah) also called for a “transparent, independent investigation” into the shooting.
“Those responsible — no matter their title — must be held accountable,” Curtis wrote on X. “Officials who rush to judgment before all the facts are known undermine public trust and the law-enforcement mission.”
Curtis said he disagrees with Homeland Security Secretary Kristi L. Noem’s “premature DHS response, which came before all the facts were known and weakened confidence.”

There IS Federal CBP body Camera video in the Pretti shooting
A hearing is underway in U.S. District Court for Minnesota on a suit seeking to prevent federal officials from destroying evidence related to the Pretti shooting. Earlier today the court hear arguments in another suit related to the federal surge. In that case, Minnesota’s attorney general asked to end the deployment in the state….
…
- The Trump administration continued to face criticism on the shooting of Pretti and its response, including pushback from some Republicans. Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said Monday on his podcast that the administration should be “more measured” in describing the killing of Pretti and other incidents. Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said in a radio interview that the White House should “recalibrate” its immigration enforcement.
- Chris Madel, a Minneapolis attorney who was running as a Republican for Minnesota governor, said Monday that he was ending his campaign because of the national party’s “retribution” on his state and called ICE operations in Minnesota an “unmitigated disaster.”
State lawyers accuse feds of ‘serious irregularities’ in Pretti death probe
During arguments in federal district court on Monday, Peter J. Farrell, a lawyer with the Minnesota attorney general’s office, accused the federal government of engaging in “serious irregularities” in handling its investigation of Alex Pretti’s death….
…
Farrell noted that usually the FBI handles such officer-involved shootings for the federal government, but in this case, Homeland Security Investigations, which falls under U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, is in charge.
Farrell told U.S. District Judge Eric Tostrud that he was unaware of HSI ever handling such an investigation before and urged the judge to continue his order that the federal government preserve the evidence.
“Your order should be a no brainer here,” he said….

Justice Dept. lawyer is clueless on the Homeland Security investigation….
A Justice Department lawyer reassured a federal judge Monday that evidence collected from the shooting of Alex Pretti is being preserved but said he did not know whether the Department of Homeland Security would continue to do so once its investigation into the death ends or whether federal authorities would share it with state and local investigators.
“I don’t know the answer to that,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Friedrich Siekert told U.S. District Judge Eric Tostrud. “Seems like that’s the most important question,” Tostrud replied.
Siekert said that the death “is a federal matter at this point,” noting that it arose out of a federal immigration operation, involved federal agents and is being investigated by the Department of Homeland Security.
Some of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers involved in the shooting were wearing body cameras. Siekert said the footage and other evidence is being preserved as it would be in any criminal or immigration investigation.
He urged the judge to lift a temporary restraining order issued Saturday requiring the preservation of evidence. “We don’t want the court to get involved in micromanaging an ongoing federal matter at this point,” he said….

Texas Gov Abbott…ICE should be changing its operations
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said in a Monday interview with Texas radio host Mark Davis that the White House should “recalibrate” its immigration enforcement amid concerns that Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s popularity is waning in response to events in Minneapolis.
Abbott accused Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz (D) and Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey (D) of “inciting violence” and blamed their leadership for the tumult in the state. But he said the Trump administration should consider “what needs to be done to make sure that respect [for ICE] is going to be re-instilled, and that’s not an easy task.”…
