Zohran Mamdani looks like he’s gonna make it to being the next New York City Mayor…..
The Mamdani sensation will NOT play outside the core of NYC come election day….(He could still be their Mayor in the end)
I have said here repeatedly ….
Poll’s confirm that Zohran plays to the young and those who do NOT have a ‘piece of the rock’ in the City….
Those who own homes, businesses and have money….
Will NOT vote for Mamdani….
It is NO surprise that quietly Mamdani HAS begun to move to the CENTER on some things…
Below is a piece on how America’s first mixed race President has ‘advised’ Mamdani that his ‘ideas’s are ok….
But?
His success will be in how he GOVERN’S….
Something Donald Trump IS having issue with according to his poll numbers
You’ve got the inspiration part down, the former president told Zohran Mamdani, but there’s a lot riding on governing. According to three people familiar with the call, Obama reminded the Democratic nominee for New York City mayor how many would be watching to see if a democratic socialist could pull off running the nation’s largest city, and how many critics would be waiting to pounce if it went wrong.
Values are important, Obama told him, but prioritizing good hires moe so….
Obama isn’t the only one concerned. Even friends and advisers working with Mamdani’s campaign and like-minded allies on the city council, among the three dozen New York leaders who spoke with CNN, say privately that they fear Mamdani is behind in preparing for what’s ahead if he wins November’s election, as reliable public polls show he is in strong position to do.
The call with Obama, one person who spoken with Mamdani about it told CNN, was helpful in giving the candidate a clearer sense of the difference between running and governing.
There’s a moment at the end of a video put out by Mamdani’s campaignwhere Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders tells him he has “an enormous responsibility to show the world that our value system can govern well and efficiently.”
Mamdani has reached beyond his circle of advisers and Democratic Socialist of America allies as he’s thinking about how he will make his big campaign promises happen and prove that a 33-year-old state assemblyman can run a city with 8 million people, a $115 billion annual budget and the nation’s largest metropolitan police force.
“Being mayor is just as much about your ability to inspire as it is to govern a big, sprawling, 300,000-person bureaucracy and all that that requires,” said Lincoln Restler, a city councilman from Brooklyn who worked on the transition team for Bill de Blasio, the mayor Mamdani has called the best in his lifetime, after his first election in 2013…..
…
“There’s a general feeling of excitement for what he’s done for the electorate. He’s talking about real things that people care about. There’s a buzz about standing up to Trump,” said a Democratic city council member who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss internal dynamics. “On the flip side, I think people have a healthy skepticism of the governing piece. Is he going to put good people around him, and can we rely on that happening? Is it going to be a bunch of DSA kids who don’t know what they’re doing running the city? I don’t think that’s what’ll happen, but we need to know more.”…
…
Mamdani met last week with former Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who spent millions backing Cuomo in the Democratic primary. Sitting together for an hour at the Bloomberg LP offices shortly after this year’s 9/11 commemoration, they talked about everything from organizing deputy mayors and agency heads to the open bullpen office plan Bloomberg brought to City Hall and talk that Trump might try to seize control of the Twin Towers memorial ahead of next year’s 25th anniversary……
…
The call with Obama, one person who spoken with Mamdani about it told CNN, was helpful in giving the candidate a clearer sense of the difference between running and governing…..
Note…
I choose this for a open thread because Democrats MUST choose beween what they aspire to….
Against what will get them back in POWER…..
We ARE living thru a guy who IS PURLY Idealistic …
It Sucks…..
The NEW THREAD IS HERE….
Hell has frozen over. Tucker Carlson is calling out the fascist authoritarian Trump regime for insidiously using the assassination of Charlie Kirk as an excuse to abolish the First Amendment, round up Americans, and carry out the Nazification of America.
And that’s just for starters.
Wish folks here would stop talking about MAGA and call them what they are — Republicans.
So much has happened and certain folks go down their own rabbit holes — especially when controversial people die violent deaths. There wasn’t anyone more controversial than Charlie the like racist, Jew, black, and woman hating college drop out. Our Secretary of War wants to use Charlie on recruiting posters for the military (why not just use President Bone Spurs?). As Ava Raine so properly said, “if you want people to have kind words when you pass, you should kind words when you’re alive.”
Of course how you die doesn’t excuse how you lived, and Charlie was one miserable individual. I guess my words could get me fired now couldn’t they. We should all think about that.
Also, and this goes back to the MAGA thing. The Republican Party has gone from a free speech, free trade, individual freedom party to a cult. Oh, there may be a few dissenters here and there (never enough to derail the Trump agenda), but at the end of the day they all march in lock step with the Great White Hope. That’s why this MAGA shit is only for the traditional Republican to feel better, to believe, even though the facts say differently, that their party hasn’t been taken over by a bunch of racist assholes — because it most certainly has.
Amen…..
Agreed Keith. People die every day. And the vast majority of them are better than Charlie Kirk.

One killed in Dallas ICE facility shooting; no law enforcement injured
One person was killed and two were injured in a shooting at a Dallas Immigration Customs and Enforcement facility Wednesday morning, authorities said, adding that the shooter also died.
The FBI is investigating the incident as an “act of targeted violence,” R. Joseph Rothrock, the head of the agency’s Dallas field office, said at a news conference Wednesday. Rounds found near the shooter contained “messages that are anti-ICE in nature,” he added.
FBI Director Kash Patel later posted an image on X that he said showed unspent shell casings from the shooter, including one with “ANTI-ICE” written on it in blue ink.
Dallas police responded at around 6:40 a.m. after a shooter opened fire on the ICE facility from an adjacent building, according to Dallas Police Department spokesperson Jonathan Maner. The two people injured were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds, he said….

New York Democratic Chair Won’t Endorse Mamdani
“The chairman of the New York State Democratic Party said on Thursday that he would not support Zohran Mamdani, his party’s nominee for mayor of New York City, citing fundamental disagreements over Israel and democratic socialism,” the New York Times reports.
“The position puts the chairman, Jay Jacobs, directly at odds with both Democratic primary voters and Gov. Kathy Hochul, his de facto boss, who endorsed Mr. Mamdani on Sunday despite her own differences with the nominee.
Mamdani IS NOT gonna make a LOT of NY and other Dem’s happy….
Gonna be interesting if he actually does become Mayor…
To my limited recollection, many of New York’s most effective (for better or for worse) mayors have been mavericks against their own party’s establishment: e.g., Fiorello La Guardia, John V. Lindsay, Ed Koch, Michael Bloomberg….
On the other hand
Robert Wagner was part of the Democratic establishment, and his effectiveness can fairly be debated. Vincent Impelliteri was a maverick who did not, I think, achieve all that much beyond demonstrating independence.
You going BACK DSD…..

The late Raúl Grijalva’s daughter wins his House seat, reducing the GOP majority by one:

Special Election’s yesterday follow up…
Former Pima County supervisor Adelita Grijalva easily won a special election Tuesday in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District to fill the seat held by her late father, former Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D).
Adelita Grijalva beat Republican Daniel Butierez to represent a House seat in the Grand Canyon State that spans most of the state’s southern border and includes part of Tucson; the seat opened up when her father died of complications related to his cancer treatment in March.
Grijalva’s win also means that enough Democrats and Republicans will be able to force a vote on the House floor over the Justice Department’s release of Jeffrey Epstein files.
Meanwhile, in Georgia, Republicans were able to keep a state Senate seat in their hands during a special election runoff. But the results there are giving Democrats reasons to feel good, too….

Shutdown Crisis Tests Trump’s Go-It-Alone Approach to Democrats
President Trump’s decision this week to abruptly cancel a meeting with top Democrats aimed at averting a government shutdown within days highlighted the toxic relationship helping drive Congress and the White House toward a crisis.
With a Republican governing trifecta, Mr. Trump has adopted a go-it-alone approach at the dawn of his second term, freezing out Democrats and never once inviting their leaders to the White House for negotiations or anything else.
With Democrats opposing him at every turn, the president has been able to rely exclusively on Republicans to push through his big priorities, including enacting a major tax cut and domestic policy bill, clawing back billions in congressionally approved spending and winning confirmation of his nominees.
That will not be the case when it comes to funding the government, which Congress must do by Tuesday to avoid a shutdown.
Because Republicans have only a narrow majority in the Senate, passing a government spending bill that can win the necessary 60 votes depends on attracting at least a small amount of Democratic support. That will require bipartisan negotiation, an art that has been fading steadily on Capitol Hill and has so far been lost altogether during Mr. Trump’s second term.
Even talks around whether and when to meet have prompted a round of recriminations and finger-pointing. Mr. Trump said earlier this month that Republicans should not “even bother” negotiating with Democrats, and suggested his party could fund the government solely with Republican votes.
The characterization infuriated Democrats, who have demanded that any measure to extend spending also carry more than $1 trillion to continue Obamacare subsidies and reverse cuts to Medicaid and other health programs that Republicans made over the summer.
“The way this country works, you’ve got to sit down with people you may not agree with and come to an agreement, come to a negotiation,” Mr. Schumer said on Tuesday after Mr. Trump canceled their meeting. “Donald Trump is not a king. He’s the president, and he has his responsibility to work to avoid the Trump shutdown, and time is of the essence.”
Mr. Trump canceled the meeting after a call with Speaker Mike Johnson and Senator John Thune of South Dakota, the majority leader, who urged the president not to meet with Democratic leaders. Mr. Johnson had told reporters before the meeting was canceled that he was “not certain” it was “necessary.”….

Diplomats Have Their Doubts About Trump
Politico: “The feeling among many foreign diplomats gathered in Turtle Bay this week is that Trump is often more interested in declaring victory than focusing on the unsexy diplomatic slog it takes to achieve it — a problem when U.S. support is key to negotiating the end to many conflicts.”
“For the countries actually mired in conflict, the struggle to keep his attention is existential.”

Zohran Mamdani admits he might need plan B to fund $10B agenda – if he can’t hike taxes on the wealthy
Socialist mayoral frontrunner Zohran Mamdani admitted Monday he might need another plan to fund his $10 billion freebie-filled agenda if he can’t score tax hikes on the ultra-wealthy and corporations.
Mamdani, during a campaign event on affordability in Queens, repeated that soaking the rich is the “most straightforward and productive way” to pay for free buses, city-owned grocery stores and his other feel-good proposals as questions remain about where the cash would actually come from.
But the proud democratic socialist added that paying for the programs is more important than how the money is raised.
“If this money is funded by the additional taxes or it’s funded by a better-than-expected (tax) assessment, or it’s funded by a pot of money that wasn’t previously spoken about, or savings that have come in, then the most important thing is that it’s funded,” he said…..

Update ….
Senate Republicans voted down legislation Wednesday that would have put a check on President Donald Trump’s ability to use deadly military force against drug cartels after Democrats tried to counter the administration’s extraordinary assertion of presidential war powers to destroy vessels in the Caribbean.
The vote fell mostly along party lines, 48-51, with two Republicans, Sens. Rand Paul and Lisa Murkowski, voting in favor and Democratic Sen. John Fetterman voting against.
It was the first vote in Congress on Trump’s military campaign, which according to the White House has so far destroyed four vessels, killed at least 21 people and stopped narcotics from reaching the U.S.. The war powers resolution would have required the president to seek authorization from Congress before further military strikes on the cartels….

Carbon Dioxide Levels Jumped by a Record Amount, U.N. Says
Surging emissions from wildfires may have been behind the increase, which was the largest since modern measurements began more than half a century ago.
By Raymond Zhong and Sachi Kitajima Mulkey
The New York Times
Oct. 16, 2025
Updated 12:34 p.m. ET
The average level of carbon dioxide in Earth’s atmosphere climbed by the largest amount on record between 2023 and 2024, the World Meteorological Organization said on Thursday.
Human activities, mainly the burning of coal, oil and gas for energy, have been driving carbon dioxide concentrations higher and higher for more than half a century. This has warmed Earth rapidly, as carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases cause energy from the sun to remain trapped near the planet’s surface. Last year was Earth’s hottest year in recorded history.
Human-caused emissions remained the major driver of the record recent jump in carbon dioxide levels, the largest since modern measurements began in 1957, according to the organization, which is the weather and climate agency of the United Nations.
In 2024, the atmosphere’s average concentration of the gas reached 423.9 parts per million, an increase of 3.5 parts per million from the year before. That edged out a 3.3 parts per million increase in 2016 that was previously the largest ever measured. Year-to-year rises in carbon dioxide concentrations have accelerated since the 1960s, when the average pace of increase was 0.8 parts per million….
