The 80th UN general assembly meeting has begun in New York. Donald Trump is expected to speak in about 20 minutes. The White House says he will take aim at “globalist institutions” and discuss his “vision for the world” in his address, which you can follow in our US live blog.

After his speech to the UN general assembly, Trump will hold one-on-one meetings with UN secretary general António Guterres and the leaders of Ukraine, Argentina and the EU.

The US president will also hold a group meeting with officials from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates and Jordan, during which he will reportedly discuss what the governance of Gaza could look like after the war, as well as how reconstruction will be funded.

Israel is reportedly planning to close the Allenby crossing, the sole gateway between the Israeli-occupied West Bank and Jordan, from Wednesday until further notice.

Gaza’s health ministry warned that fuel shortages could shut down the Gaza Strip’s remaining functioning hospitals by the end of the week amid relentless Israeli attacks. In an update, it said at least 65,382 Palestinian people have been killed and 166,985 others injured in Israeli attacks on Gaza since 7 October 2023….
Trump speaks in support of Israel at the UN….
President Trump condemned moves by Western nations to recognize a Palestinian state on Tuesday, claiming such steps would only reward Hamas for the atrocities committed on Oct. 7, 2023.
Speaking before the United Nations General Assembly, Trump called on the world powers to help him secure a hostage release deal rather than join the wave of countries that have formally recognized a Palestinian state.
“As if to encourage continued conflict, some of this body is seeking to unilaterally recognize the Palestinian state. The rewards would be too great for Hamas terrorists for their atrocities,” he said.
“This would be a reward for these horrible atrocities,” he charged. “Instead of giving in to Hamas’ ransom demands, those who want peace should be united with one message — release the hostages now, just release the hostages.”

Trump is also expected to present an American plan for Israel’s withdrawal from the Palestinian enclave and the establishment of a post-war governance without Hamas’ involvement, Axios reported.
Washington is allegedly pushing for Arab and Muslim countries to send military forces to fuel security in Gaza, as well as funds to reconstruction, according to the outlet….
