On his show Monday, Kimmel, 57, said: “We had some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and with everything they can to score political points from it.”
Tyler Robinson, the suspect in Kirk’s shooting, does not appear to be ideologically conservative or a supporter of President Donald Trump. According to charging documents from prosecutors released earlier this week, Robinson sent a message to his roommate that he “had enough of [Kirk’s] hatred.”
Kimmel’s contract with ABC was set to expire next year, and there was speculation about whether it would be renewed, particularly after the announcement in July that CBS owner Paramount would cancel its top-rated late-night show, “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
Federal Communications Commission Chairman Brendan Carr criticized Kimmel earlier Wednesday, suggesting the federal agency could pull broadcast licenses owned by parent company Disney. Licenses are given to local stations, not networks, and revocations are extremely rare.
“We can do this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr told conservative podcast host Benny Johnson. “These companies can find ways to change conduct and take actions on Kimmel, or there’s going to be additional work for the FCC ahead.”
Carr said he could “certainly see a path forward for suspension” for Kimmel at the network, something the FCC would have no involvement in. Carr has also previously criticized the ABC show “The View.”…

The decision by ABC is likely to be seen as a concession to the network’s critics. In December, the company agreed to put $15 million toward Trump’s presidential library to settle a defamation lawsuit.
After the announcement that Colbert’s show would be canceled, Trump speculated on his Truth Social platform that Kimmel was “NEXT to go in the untalented Late Night Sweepstakes.”
In early September, Kimmel mocked Trump as “a delicate, chubby little teacup.”
“Did we hurt your feelings?” he asked. “You want us to be canceled because we make jokes about you?”…

We are truly living in a new cultural era
A few quick things-
1. It was suggested on here last week by a couple people that MAGA would quickly lose interest in the Charlie Kirk assassination. As I knew, that is definitely not going to happen. They are going to weaponize it against anybody anti-Trump in anyway they can. They will work to fire or cancel whomever they can, and some people on the left will fall into that trap. They are demanding that school districts pass resolutions to honor Kirk, etc. The Kirk killing and assigning blame will be their number one issue for some time.
2. james has repeatedly engaged in a theme that Trump is “losing” and is not nearly as powerful as some people say. Obviously, that is not the case. He is weaponizing the government against critics in ways that nobody could have ever imagined before. He has nearly unlimited power now. It is quite reasonable to suspect he will at least do something to try to stop or de-legitimize the 2026 elections.
3. I do not know what exactly Kimmel was trying to say on Monday night about MAGA trying to “desperately” claim that the killer was part of MAGA. Maybe he would have explained or clarified that tonight, but he is off the air. What happened to him is not about the killer or about Kirk though, but is of course really about Trump. It is a chilling example of government overreach and should be opposed by all. Of course, it will not.
Regardless, we should not intentionally spread falsehoods. james and many others have claimed that Robinson was a Republican or “right-leaning.” All evidence presented seems to very much disprove that. In recent years, he appeared to have become a leftist. Regardless, no other leftist should be blamed for his crime by association. That much should be obvious.
4. I wonder just how deep the backlash against ABC’s capitulation will be. Will there be some kind of effort to strike in solidarity with Kimmel. The only other live entertainment show they have I believe that is currently in season is “Dancing With the Stars” (a favorite of my parents) and I wonder if there will be a movement by the celebrities on that show or others associated with it, such as the band, to try to shut the show down in protest in order to hurt ABC. They would not be wrong to do so.

What his family was or is happens to be irrelevant. He was the shooter. The evidence will be presented in court but there seems to be little doubt that the killer was leftist and anti-Kirk for that reason. Someone does themselves no favor for having any shred of credibility by denying that or trying to conjure up another story. I say the exact same thing about the MN killer and what people in that right falsely claim about his motives.
What I will also say is thank G-d that Robinson, who deserves whatever he has coming for murder, did not fire any other shots. He targeted Kirk and Kirk alone, whereas he could have easily killed dozens of other people from that rooftop before he would have been stopped.
You need perhaps to pay closer attention if you are truly under false pretensions and are not just being dishonest.
Everyone in Utah from the Governor (whom has gotten a lot of praise from Democrats) to the Sheriff to the Prosecutor, etc, has said that the 22 year old killer had become a leftist. (I also happen to to think that social media and video games played a large part too.)
The text messages released (and perhaps they should not have been released at this point) clearly point out a political divide between the shooter and his Republican father especially, and it appears to be related to his romantic relationship with a trans partner.
As difficult as it must be for all of them, both the MAGA parents and the trans partner/roommate have done their civic and moral duty in cooperating with this investigation and bringing the danger he posed to an end. A horrible and tragic story all around.
I can admit I was wrong. They’re milking poor dead Charlie for all they can.
They do risk backlash as most people think Kirk being murdered was a tragedy. But most people didn’t know who the hell he was and are wondering why we need to be forced to mourn for a month for this loudnouth.
But it’s not really anout Kirk. It’s about reaction to another death that *could* happen sooner than they will publicly admit.
