I do NOT understand the Republicans in Congress….
Donald Trump is applying a wrecking ball to things and these people have his back?
The idiots then go home and expect the people who sent them to Congress to represent THEM to be HAPPY?
REALLY?
These Republican lawmakers have year and half to decide if they want keep theire jobs?
Or?
Keep Donald Trump happy….
And Trump ain’t running for ANYTHING Again….
Representative Mike Flood, Republican of Nebraska, was not even 30 seconds into his prepared introduction at a town hall in Lincoln on Monday evening when the booing and the jeering began. Then it didn’t let up for over an hour.
“There’s been a lot of misinformation out there about the bill,” Mr. Flood told a crowd of more than 700 people gathered in a downtown recital hall, referring to President Trump’s sweeping domestic policy legislation that significantly cuts Medicaid, food benefits and other programs.
“You are a liar!” multiple people shouted back. “Liar! Liar!”
Mr. Flood, a second-term congressman who won his district last year by more than 20 points, soldiered through his slide show presentation, saying, “We’re going to see an influx of money into Nebraska hospitals.”
“If we didn’t pass the Big Beautiful Bill,” Mr. Flood said, “there would have been a $1,600 tax increase to every Nebraska family.”
In response, the packed auditorium erupted in a chant of “Tax the rich,” and Mr. Flood finally had to pause his slides. “The only way we’re going to get through tonight,” he said, “is if I get a chance to tell you how I voted.”
This was exactly the kind of reception many Republicans dreaded as they headed home to their districts for their six-week summer break.
Faced with selling a major piece of legislation that polls show is broadly unpopular and confronted with ruptures in Mr. Trump’s base over his handling of the Jeffrey Epstein case, they risk being met with angry questions for which they have no easy answers. And town halls have proven to be a perfect outlet for a wave of energy from Democrats who see an opportunity to knock Republicans off balance more than a year ahead of the midterm elections….
….
Mr. Flood said he had anticipated a rocky reception and admitted he was not satisfied with his answer on veteran benefits. “I need to put my notes out,” he said. “I need to be very clear on why I think our veterans are being taken care of.”
Further engagement this year with his constituents, he suggested, may be online, in smaller groups or even on a tele-town hall. “This is my third and final one for the year,” he said of in-person town halls. “We’re going to give you all a break.”…
CG?
This IS WHAT the GOPer’s get for kissing RThe Don’s Rear
You think Flood is going to lose next year?
If he does, it’s probably a 50 seat pickup (at least per the 2024 map).
Somebody like Flood makes the political calculation that it would be a far bigger risk to attract the ire of Donald Trump who might send out a message attacking him on social media or endorsing a primary challenger than to worry too much about Democrats who will come out to boo him at a Town Hall and be part of the 42 percent or so of his district who might vote against him in a general election.
In the meantime, he gets to brag to his colleagues and the media, “Hey look, I was willing to put myself through that, when I didn’t have to.”
We’re talking about purple and could be even some red state seats……
I believe from now on out GOPer’s WILL have claw back some of the cuts Trump wants and even some they voted on….
Self preservation
Flood won by 20 points last year and according to P1, has no announced opponent, or even anyone listed as considering a challenge.
A year and a half to Election Day 2026, eh?
Nation media piece?
Ya never know….
50 seats!
You Funny!
I do not think you understand.
If Flood were to lose the 1st District of Nebraska, Democrats would probably win 50 seats in 2026 (not taking into consideration what new maps may look like.) That would be a Blue Wave. The First District of Nebraska is very Red. College football and otherwise.
I doubt Flood is going to lose, especially since nobody seems to be preparing to even run against him, but I hope you at least see the point, before you get all bent out of shape again.
Well CG?
Democrats Favored in Nebraska’s Second District
Cook Political Report: “If Democrats don’t win Nebraska’s 2nd District next year, it’s almost impossible to see them taking control of the House. The Omaha-based district shot to the top of the party’s target list at the beginning of July, when GOP Rep. Don Bacon announced he wouldn’t run for reelection next year.”
“Given the partisan lean of this district — it has a Cook PVI of D+3 — a generic Democrat should have an edge over a generic Republican.”
Political Wire
Yes, different districts of course. Thank you for the tremendous information.
Folks?
At SOME point in the next 6 months or so?
Republicans in Blue, Purple and some in Ted districts and states WILL HAVE TO turn against Trump cuts, detentions and economic policy
That?
Or?
No amount of redistricting is gonna help them keep their majority in the House
Or
Maybe even the Senate
Bad economies end up cost the guys in the majority
That WILL include Emperor Trump I’d Bet
Who are these Republicans in the “blue districts?” There are maybe five at most I believe who are in districts that Harris carried and those were really purple districts.
And the Republicans in the “purple” districts are worried about MAGA primary challengers if they do not toe the line.
Trump said today that he has 71 percent job approval and that is what his supporters will believe.
Yes, redistricting this year can very well help Republicans keep the House. That is why they are doing it. The lack of competitive districts these days already meant it was going to be very close either way regardless.
I definitely do not think Republicans deserve to keep the House or Senate but they probably are going to keep the Senate and the House is now going to be less likely to go Democrat than it was a couple months ago. If that happens, Democrats should focus on the big picture and use that to their advantage in 2028. In the meantime, it is going to be a long time until then and while james thinks Trump is “losing”, he will have the ability to do a lot of damage.
Five is the current majority margin?
Add the purple aand Red Disticts that might get hit hard with cutbacks and Yup!
Jeffries IS the Speaker
Redirecting is probably gonna be a wash for Republicans if Democrats join the effort….
Long time?
Worries about Trump ARE ALEADY happening , even in ole Red Nebraska
If u did’t hear?
The Senate walked away from Trump confirmations
Trump gonna have to do ‘giveback’ come the next few months….
I told U guys this was gonna happen
I checked-
3 Republican House Members in Harris districts
13 Democrat House Members in Trump districts
The 13 HOLD
The 3 gonna have NO Town Hall meetings and worry about the votes
GOPer’s HAVE Trouple!
They WILL HAVE TO CHOOSE Trump or their seats
Some of the worse cuts they pushed back to next year and 2028….
But’
The media, Democrats and their wallets gonna be scaring the Shit out of voters just before it does when those in power LOSE…
Cuts in Jack’s South Caroline ain’t gonna make even the poorer MAGA’s Happy
This IS why Trump wants to control the Labor Dept numbers announcements
Heck?
Trump’s making Progressives look Good Again!
Summer 2009 a lot of Democrats felt heat at town halls over ObamaCare.
This is starting to feel like that with Trumps big beautiful bill, Epstein etc.
Yup……
Even efforts in next years cuts to Obamacare ?
They will effect Red states worse than Blue states
Wouldn’t be surprised if the GOPer’s RELUCTANTLY RECEND the cuts in store for the healthcare coverages
White people in red states who are poor (and an increasing amount of non white people too) are simply not inclined to vote for Democrats.
As unpopular as Trump may become, Democrats do not seem to be in a very strong position right now to capitalize.
Then these people white and black gonna just vote FOR Vance and there local theft who stole their healthcare coverage?
Maybe
Maybe NOT so much?
Those white (and non white) poor people in red states don’t tend to vote in midterms.
Republicans have cast their lot with the poorly educated in the age of Trunp and they just don’t turn up as much as the increasingly Democratic friendly educated suburban abd urban vote.
Go point Scott on the poorer American ‘s taking their lumps quietly…
But the hurt will effect some Red state GOPER’s who vote and they are gonna be directly hurtin
There were a lot more competitive districts in 2010 and a whole heck of a lot more Democrats representing areas that had trended Republican than there are currently Republicans holding seats in areas that have trended Democrat.
Whomever wins the House will probably have a margin of around five seats. I think the redistricting wars, which are terrible for America above all else, are going to cause net losses for Democrats.
What is it exactly that you “ don’t understand?”
You apparently “don’t understand “ that in all these polls you almost daily bombard us with Trumps approval among Republicans in around 90%.
So why would those you describe as “idiots”not support him?
As requires constant reiteration, you simply refuse to acknowledge the fact that Trump literally owns the Republican Party. He is overwhelmingly popular among those who call themselves Republicans. The few that occasionally say anything negative about him have no influence in that party and your increasingly desperate attempts to “ prove “ that Trumps support is slipping among them are almost comical and are totally unsupported by any data but are nothing but the product of your imagination.
Totally correct Jack.
Ah?
Jack’s cheering support I’m happy to here from…
Maybe you could give us ur view of the Democrats now?
Ur view of what u expect for the midterms and who You think is the best for 2028?
The question is…
Where is your “ cheering support?”
Almost 450 people tuning into the site EVERY DAY‼️
Trump has 71 percent job approval and jamesb has 450 actual human beings looking at this site daily.
Bots
And oh yes .you are delusional.
He, he, he….
Not REALLY…..
And that’s on here, Twitter and Bluesky….
And I KNOW ur Happy that the site’s traffic HAS INCREASED!…..
But, sad to say, the traffic seems to be much less than when this site started.
By “traffic”. I mean active cross-talk among diverse views and backgrounds (as on the old Politcs1), not just James making his assertions and observations (as he has every right to do on the site he is funding and administering) with scattered protests and corrections from one individual among the rest of us.
Sorry that was such a cluttered sentence.
I have produced this place for us to discuss things…..
I am HAPPY it has critical, agreeable and adversarial comments….
These days among the people here things are friendly……
There was a time when things were not so….
Sure I would love more commenters
But I’m happy to have regulars
Still here
I’m an old Dog
Slights are something I have gotten used to
If you look on line
I have company in people knocking things
Gonna keep on Truckin…
Might even get to drop a few

Thank You to those who come to this place
