Barack Obama has faced some media questioning about his blunt questioning of why some Black American males seem to be reluctant to express support for Vice President Harris , who IS a Democrat of Black and Indian decent…
South Carolina Democratic House old timer James Clyburn echo’s his concern, as has the ex-President…
Rep. James Clyburn (D-S.C.) said he is “concerned” that Black men will vote for former President Trump in the upcoming election — or sit it out entirely.
“I am concerned about Black men staying home or voting for Trump,” Clyburn said Sunday on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “But my concerns don’t tend to keep me from being energetic about this campaign.”
Clyburn’s comments come days after former President Obama issued a call to action to Black men amid signs that Vice President Harris’s level of support among the key demographic may be softening.
“You’re coming up with all kinds of reasons and excuses; I’ve got a problem with that,” Obama said Thursday in Pennsylvania. “Because part of it makes me think — and I’m speaking to men directly — part of it makes me think that, well, you just aren’t feeling the idea of having a woman as president, and you’re coming up with other alternatives and other reasons for that.”
Polling released recently found Trump seeing an uptick in supportamong Black men….

For those who think Trump is gonna rob Harris of any significant number of Black voters….
Black Voters Tend to Come Home to the Democrats
A recent New York Times/Siena College poll of Black voters showed that only 78% plan to vote for Kamala Harris, compared to Joe Biden’s 90% share in the 2020 election and Hillary Clinton’s 92% in 2016.
At first glance, this seems very concerning for Democrats — and it mirrors other recent polling — but the comparison is also quite misleading.

I think 86-14 is a reasonable estimate on the Black vote margin.

When I saw the clip, I found this sort of lecturing by Obama to be extremely tone deaf politically and risky. There is a backlash on the left over what he was claiming and invoking race into the campaign is probably not something Harris really wanted in this way.
I wrote on my blog that it reminds me that while Obama was good at getting votes for himself, his efforts to campaign for other Democrats in general elections have generally not gone well. When he was President, Democrats were decimated in down ballot races all over the country (which of course shows how dumb Republicans were to think they had to turn to Trump.)
Obama lecturing young black men reminded me of how Bill Cosby used to do the same. Putting aside what we now definitely know about Cosby, even if some of us think there was a kernel of truth to what was being said, young black men did appreciate being talked down to by an old millionaire.

Ouch!….
So Cosby and Obama should’t say to Black folks….VOTE?
And vote for the ‘sister’ that ‘feels your pain’?
REALLY?
All that blowback I’d bet comes from mostly white guys , who claim to be reporters or progressives…
Fact is?
As we have seen here ….
There ARE Black and even Latino Right leaners….
No many…
But yup they ARE there…
Like Obama and Clyburn I don’t fucking understand supporting and asshole that would throw you overboard to kiss up to crazy assed white knuckleheads…
(Notice the guys aiming for Trump ARE white guys?…What’s with THAT?
I think Blacks are grown up enough to have it pointed out one person running for President IS a angry, crazy, felon, sexual predator, that owes the government/tax payers HUNDREDS of millions of dollar, that don’t pay his bills, that wants to run America like his buddy Putin runs Russia….
Obama wasn’t Superman….
But him reaching back to his VP and the 330 Million Americans, NOT just HIMSELF IS the Right Thing to do….
And yup….
Even You agree he WAS/IS on Point…
CG says
You miss the point entirely. You are an older guy yourself of course, like Clyburn and Obama. People do not want to be lectured to or accused of bad motives. It will make them less receptive to somebody’s message.
Obama made things worse for Democrats this week, not better. I am certain the Harris/Walz campaign privately shares that view.

I recall four years ago, Clyburn was all over tv saying black people would not vote for Buttigieg because he was gay, and that he seemed to be ok with that reality.
jamesb says
He was right…..
Ghost of SE says
As to young black men being talked down to by an old millionaire, when is the Harris campaign going to put Keith out on the stump?

?

It’s an “in joke” for CG.

My moderated post is a shorter version of my thoughts on the Obama topic which are included in the final few paragraphs of my last blog post:

You can look at polling data and throw out all these margin predictions all you want, but what is the turnout going to be?
If African-American turnout is down from previous elections, that will make things much more difficult for them.

All I can do is Hope that trends from 2022 continue and those worried about a possible second Trump term come out and vote against him in Pennsylvania , Wisconsin, Michigan, Arizona, Nevada, Georgia and even North Carolina…

And you DID check the piece about Black voters coming ‘Home’ in the end?
CG says
What about those that will “stay home?”
jamesb says
Shame on them…..
