With a election coming in a little less than 6 months….
President Joe Biden quietly moves to the center
Clamp down on China Trade
Border crack down coming….
Stand Up against protest violence….
Clipping supprt for Israel?…
Which mirrors something Republicans Reagan and Bush II did…..
That after SOLID support for Israel….
Alaska drilling Ok….
Come November?
Biden NEEDS some of those disenchanted Trump voters…
Progressive voters do NOT have anyplace to go but WITH Biden….
Joe Biden is NOT a Conservative….
But he’s NOT a card carrying Progressive President either….
He’s just ole Senator thinking Guy looking to keep his job and trying to run a country going in different directions…
Being very aware of the Big Ass bully trying to come bacxk and fuck things up again… Worse ..
A dulling of the early optimism about Biden’s progressivism may have been inevitable as the presidential election loomed. When Republicans won the House in the 2022 midterm elections, the window of opportunity for sweeping legislation slammed shut. The war in Ukraine has consumed huge time and resources. The cracks between Biden and a younger generation over Israel were always there but it took the Hamas attack to bring them to the surface.
Matt Bennett, an executive vice-president of the centrist thinktank Third Way, describes Biden as a moderate by disposition who believes in compromise. “He’s governed the way he promised he would when he ran for president, the way he has always portrayed himself, which is somebody who’s at the centre of the Democratic electorate,” he said.
“He’s not on the liberal fringe; he is not a conservative Democrat. He’s always navigated to about the middle point of where the party is. That’s why he got there before Obama did on marriage equality, famously, because he saw where the party was headed and that’s where he has steered quite successfully as president. No one’s going to be happy with him all the time but most Democrats should appreciate that he’s done an extraordinarily good job.”….

Nobody else in America, besides this moderator, would call Biden distancing himself from Israel “moving to the center.”
The poll cites in regards to him and Jewish-American voters is from January. A lot has changed since then, especially from the Administration, and he should have a lot to be concerned with politically.

The witholding of heavy ammo IS a change from Biden’s STRONG COMPLETE support of Israel’s efforts to seek out and destroy Hamas…
It HAS gotten Netanyhu’s attention ….
The Rafah op is NOT a full scale one against what was advertised to be….
I did do a post to point out Biden joins Reagan, Bush II, and Obama in witholding stuff from Israel from time to time when that country tries to do the impossible…..
If you google it?
U WILL see the history of Israel and differnt groups fighting…..
The situatuion ISv a complex one on differnt levels for BOTH sides….
I whole heartily agree with the US Intel’s analysis that Israel will continue to be doing this fight forever unless a POLITICAL solution is agreed to for a Palestinian state….
jamesb says
Biden HAS taken a small step I believe…
The reaction against it means that he IS being seen as moving to the ‘Center’…..
CG says
That’s nonsensical. He is moving to the left in regards to Israel because he is afraid of bleeding votes on the left. Perhaps, he has valid reason to be worried, but that does not mean it is the right thing to do.
Now, you have Jewish-Americans, who never voted for Trump, who are saying they may do so this year because they are upset about the political games Biden is playing regarding Israel. Believe me, these discussions are occurring. Don’t worry, I will not be voting for Trump.
jamesb says
Left?
Huh?
Stopping Heavy bombs FOR Istael is HELPING them????
Any Jewish American voting FOR Trump will join Blacks, Latinos. Arabs and just plain Americans who ARE ignorant and have NO memory of how bad their fellow Americans got rolled by one way, chaotic , crook ….
I’m sure ur right….
Lost people are thinking of going over to the dark side…..
CG says
It’s very simple. Large segments of the left dislike Israel. The right does not.
Biden is worried about the votes of the left, and not the right, whom he is not going to get anyway. Thus, it is preposterous to say he is moving to the center on Israel. He is moving to the left, at least rhetorically, and now through a supposed action, compared to where he was earlier in the year.
In the meantime, mainstream American-Jews (who tend to be center-left, as opposed to me being center-right) are caught in the middle.
These days, Republicans are political hostages to the MAGA cult and Democrats are becoming political hostages of dumb, uninformed, spoiled, lawless college students and those who infiltrate them.
Both parties have a huge problem for 2024, and it will get even worse beyond this year.
jamesb says
I don’t think it’s disliking Israel
I think it’s the images of Gaza in ruins and the devastation…
Biden HAS eaten shit sandwich from Netanyahu
Biden has hung in there but the internal politics is grinding him
jamesb says
And the WHOLE PLACE ain’t simple
It NEVER WAS

Trump wanted to withhold aid from Ukraine as leverage for his own electoral purposes and wound up getting impeached over it. I see a lot of similarities with what Biden is trying to do now.
Bad policy and bad for the U.S. in both regards.
CG says
Your insertion of Bush II is historically wrong. You mean Bush 1 probably. There was tension between Israel and SOS Baker at times. I cannot speak to the Reagan example. Nonetheless, when all of those Presidents were in office, Israel never experienced ANYTHING remotely like what they did last October 7, and that is of course a huge consideration.
CG says
Also, “Bush II” would not have been accused of “clipping support for Israel.”
That would have maybe applied to “Bush 1” and Secretary of State James Baker. It cost that President a lot of votes too from people who had supported him the last time when he ran for reelection.
Generally speaking, Jewish voters will probably back Biden at about the same levels they did in 2020, but in a close race, any bit of slippage could be crucial. The President ought to be trying to do the right thing, regardless of politics, and it seems like he is trying to have it both ways.
The problem for Democrats is why so many of the voters they depend on, especially the youngest ones, believe things that are just factually, definitionally, and fundamentally untrue about Israel and the Middle East. Dishonest college professors and manipulated Chinese propaganda on TikTok explain parts of that, but it is still a problem.
Both parties have vocal chunks of their bases which simply refuse to deal with facts and reality on different matters.
jamesb says
I agree with u that Jewish voters are and will support Biden’s moves so far….
And they ARE a bigger voting block….
Young and Arab -American voters I assume Biden’s handlers think WILL come home in the end….
Trump is dancing with Srephen Miller again who WILL help set up mass raids, deportations etc.
Polling show that college protest are NOT affecting Biden’s poll numbers and his coming out AGAINST protest ‘violence’ IS DEmocrats learning their lesson’s from Police, Black Lives and Jan. 6 protest actions…
And YES….
Biden’s comments have NOT made progressives happy and afterwards?
Cops HAVE been shutting down the violence and encampments….
