President Biden and Democrats will have to deal with the Republicans looking to cut Foreign Aid and other spending across the board….
One had to know that funding for the Ukraine WAS going to be ramped down sooner or later and going into the 2024 elections would also mean this…
House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) called on President Biden to split his $100 billion supplementary budget request between aid for Ukraine and Israel amid concerns that Republicans would not support a Ukraine package.
“I told the staff at the White House today that our consensus among House Republicans is that we need to bifurcate those issues,” Johnson said Thursday in an interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity.
Biden’s budget request includes $14 billion to support Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza and $61 billion for Ukraine’s defense against Russia, alongside funding for U.S. border security and support for Taiwan.
Ukraine has been an increasingly controversial issueamong House Republicans, who fought to keep Ukraine funding out of the continuing resolution passed at the end of September to keep the government running.
Johnson said he still supports the Ukrainian war effort versus Russia, but that the House should focus on limiting spending….

“We deeply care and are concerned about all nations of free people around the world, but we have to take care of our own house first, and so that’s also part of this delicate calculation and the decision.”
Note….
One must remember that Biden HAS the debacle of Afghanistan on his back and HAS to show other nations that he CAN stand behind a promise to backup someone…
Update….
Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) is criticizing newly elected House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) for comments suggesting Johnson could support additional U.S. support for Ukraine….
…
“Yesterday at a classified briefing over Ukraine, it became clear that America is being asked to fund an indefinite conflict with unlimited resources. Enough is enough. To these and future requests, my colleagues and I say: NO,” Vance wrote on X, sharing the letter….

And then there are the so called Republican “ moderates.”
They were quite vocal for awhile.Bragging that they had helped deny Right wing creep “ Jimmy” Jordan the speakership. Then, inexplicably, they chose to unanimously support this religious fanatic and helped elevate him to it.
The truth is of course ,applying the term” moderate “ to this group is a deceit of sorts. In reality they are merely Right wingers who are not quite as radical as the Jordan types and don’t like Trump.
Maybe they should be given some minor amount of credit for opposing a rapist and crook but confusing them with true moderates of the past is a disservice to those of who truly lived up to that word.
It is good to remember that next time that term gets thrown out there by the media and others.Yes, compared to Louie Gohmert ,”Jimmy “Jordan , Matt Gaetz and others of that ilk ,they are “moderate.” On the political spectrum however, they are simply Right wingers who don’t like certain of the personal characteristics of their fellow party members.
