The vote now goes to the whole House….
That is where Rep Scalise ran into trouble….
Jordan (R-Oh) IS a RightWingNut……
If he does win the vote for the spot?
We could be in for a rough time in the Congress….
Jordan was one of the the defiant House Republicans on a response to the Jan. 6 investigations and has gone out of his way to support Trump against his criminal charges from the Fed…..
He could be a HUGE problem for Democrats in the US Senate and the White House to deal with….
Ofcourse?
He could have made ‘deals’ with centrist /moderate Republicans to get their votes for the spot?
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) won the Republican nod for Speaker in the conference’s second such vote this week.
He beat challenger Rep. Austin Scott (R-Ga.).
Jordan lost earlier in the week to Majority Leader Steve Scalise, who bowed out late Thursday when it became apparent he would not garner the 217 votes needed to earn the gavel. Internal division and oppositionled to his withdrawal, coming just a day after he won the party’s nomination.
Without a Speaker since Oct. 5, when Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was removed, the House is unable to push through legislation as war breaks out in Israel and the clock ticks….
CG says
Liz Cheney: “Jim Jordan was involved in Trump’s conspiracy to steal the election and seize power; he urged that Pence refuse to count lawful electoral votes. If Rs nominate Jordan to be Speaker, they will be abandoning the Constitution. They’ll lose the House majority and they’ll deserve to.”
Ghost of SE says
Prediction: near half of the Republican members will run for Speaker, none will be chosen, and the Bacon’s, Lawler’s, Newhouse’s, Valadao’s, Chris Smith’s, et al, will coalition with Democrats to make Hakeem Jeffries Speaker.
