Rolling Stone take’s the cover off something that HAS to be on the ex-President’s mind …..
Actually Going to Jail…..
I don’t care how busy he seems to be with his political actions….
Donald J. Trump IS a human like Everyone Else….
He worries about losing his freedom….
IN THE PAST several months, Donald Trump has had a burning question for some of his confidants and attorneys:
Would the authorities make him wear “one of those jumpsuits” in prison?
As the criminal cases against him have piled up, the former president and 2024 GOP frontrunner has wondered aloud in recent months about what life would be like if he’s convicted, and if appeals fail. While Trump publicly professes confidence, privately, three sources familiar with his comments say, he’s been asking lawyers and other people close to him what a prison sentence would look like for a former American president.
Would he be sent to a “club fed” style prison — a place that’s relatively comfortable, as far these things go — or a “bad” prison? Would he serve out a sentence in a plush home confinement? Would government officials try to strip him of his lifetime Secret Service protections? What would they make him wear, if his enemies actually did ever get him in a cell — an unprecedented set of consequences for a former leader of the free world.
What would happen — including in the Fulton County, Georgia criminal case against him and various co-defendants — if he were convicted and sentenced, but also re-elected?
The private questions are a departure from the air of supreme confidence invincibility Trump has projected. In interviews and elsewhere, he has claimed that the thought of losing in court and going to prison simply cannot enter his mind.
“I don’t even think about it,” Trump told NBC’s Kristen Welker during an interview last week. “I’m built a little differently I guess.”…
…
Even before he faced criminal charges, Trump showed at least a distant concern about looming criminal liability. As Rolling Stone reported in 2022, the former president told associates that he was looking forward to running for president again at least in part because the office would afford him at least temporary immunity from prosecution. He and his legal team have also grasped at exotic legal theories in seemingly desperate attempts to shut down the cases against him in Fulton County and New York City.
Experts say that, in the event of a conviction, Trump would still be entitled to Secret Service protection for the rest of his life. But the answers to many of his other questions — like where he’d have to serve a sentence and under what conditions — would vary based on whether he’s convicted and on which charges…

It’s always surprised and disappointed me that pressure from (or pandering to) the craziest part of his base has made Donald Trump disown or denounce the two achievement for which even his staunchest critics (e.g. we) give him credit: Operation Warp Speed (which has saved hundreds of thousands of American lives and probably millions world-wide) and signing the First Steps reform and rationalization of criminal justice (at least at the Federal level).

Democratic Socialist Dave says
Al Franken (DFL-Minn) was forced to resign over a few unwanted advances that don’t compare remotely to keeping thousands of dollars in gold bars from suspicious sources.
On the other hand, even a temporary vacancy (until Dem. Gov. Phil Murphy can appoint a successor, no confirmations needed) will make the Democrats’ margin in the Senate even tinier : 49 Republicans facing 48 regular Democrats, Joe Manchin, Kyrsten Sinema, and the Vice President’s casting vote [I vacancy].
Few remember how tight and the 60-40 unfilibusterable margin that passed Affordable Care was in 2009, when the Democrats had 58+2 seats in the broken gaps between Al Franken’s final seating and Ted Kennedy’s death and between Paul Kirk’s appointment to and Scott Brown’s election to Ted Kennedy’s seat. Even then, the Obama administration had to surrender important points to the Democratic caucus’s most conservative members; e.g. pulling the Public Option (even in single-insurer states) to satisfy Sen. Claire McCaskill (D-Mo.)

….As usual, most everything underneath the surface of American politics is about Trump. House Republicans continue to be very afraid that he might one day endorse a primary challenger, so they bend over backwards to stay on his good side. The same applies to the weak and weaselly McCarthy who knows that a simple statement by Trump could end his Speakership the next day. That is why McCarthy went on television this past week to basically diss Ron DeSantis in a political comparison to Trump. Gee, I wonder who told McCarthy to do that.
As I have asked for over eight years now, when does it end for Trump defenders.Even if someone agrees with him on every policy issues, what does it take to recognize what a completely amoral human being he is? Is that ever going to matter again? This is the person who does not want wounded war heroes “displayed” in public because they make him feel bad. He looks upon himself as a “winner”and anyone who actually joined the military and paid a price for it are “losers” or “suckers.”
Today, he basically said on social media that General Mark Milley, the same person Trump elevated to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff should be “executed” for treason. Milley ran afoul of Trump in office and recently revealed the latest story about Trump not wanting to see a disabled veteran featured at a public event.
I do not think Donald Trump will be President ever again, although the fact that Joe Biden may be the only think standing between him and the White House should be a horrible thing to consider for Americans across the political spectrum. What would happen though if he did “come to power” again. He may never actually be able to do what he would truly want to do or even try to do but the things that he would want to do or try to do are pretty abhorrent….

While I think the effects of Cornel West on Biden’s chances average out to nothing in the end, RFK Jr stands to siphon off the support of those Republicans who won’t want to vote for a man convicted of high crimes, as well as folks like CG who only dislike Trump for his temperament and Tweets/Truth Social posting.

‘Do You Think They’ll Arrest Me Today?’
Donald Trump raged to an Iowa crowd this afternoon, Rolling Stone reports.
Said Trump: “It’s no wonder the far left lunatics are getting desperate to stop our movement by any means necessary. As you know, crooked Joe Biden and his radical left thugs have weaponized law enforcement to arrest their leading opponent on fake and phony charges. I got arrested four times in the last — it’s almost like I wake up in the morning, ‘Do you think they’ll arrest me today?’ I never got arrested before. It’s a terrible thing.”
He added: “Every time the radical Democrats indict me, I consider it a great honor. Because I’m being indicted for you.”

A post coming that very subject now….
CG says
You all should have listened to me about two years ago on RFK Jr.
All I did was ask a simple question then considering his rabid anti-vax stance. It was not too long ago before the pandemic that RFK Jr was a prominent fundraiser and surrogate for Democrats. He was being embraced by many prominent Democrats as recently as 2018, when he was already vocally anti-vax. I asked if Democrats should stop using him in that role and chose to distance themselves from him. It seemed pretty obvious they should do that.
I recall that most of the Democrats here, (may one of them Rest in Peace) said no, there was no need to distance from RFK Jr.
He may have a hard time getting on the ballot, unless he is nominated by the Libertarians, which I would not discount. That is sort of ironic though that the party would nominate someone who once suggested that people who denied global warming should be put in prison by the government.
There are some people who would vote for RFK Jr because is a Democrat and some people are dumb.
CG says
meant to say “because he is a Kennedy.”
jamesb says
Yea….
I should have….
Scott P says
Actually Trump is readying attacks on RFK Jr. now because his campaign realizes almost all antivax dipshits in 2023 are Republican or Republican leaning voters.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
I’ve certainly been no fan of or apologist for RFKJ any more than I am of Al Sharpton.
In New England, Kennedy’s low-price energy oil co-op, thanked Citgo for offering free heating oil for the poor during the critical winter months. At that point, Citgo was owned and controlled by the Bolivarian Venezuelan government of Húgo Chávez.
And after Matt Schlapp took over control of CPAC from Al Cárdenas, it’s become a Trump Party Rally (ein Parteitag). Anti-vaxism will appeal to the crowd, so now Trump sees someone stealing his light. (Ironically, the two things for which I give Trump credit are Operation Warp Speed and signing the First Steps Act.)
Democratic Socialist Dave says

CG says
I shook Bob Dole’s left hand in 1996. I am sure I have mentioned it before, but it would not have been “recently.” It was quite an honor.
I thought about him recently in a couple regards. One is the confirmation that Trump did indeed held those injured or captured in wars such as John McCain and George H.W. Bush in low regard. He blames them for that and for being “losers” and simply cannot understand why anyone would ever choose to join the military. Considering Dole’s lifelong wounds, he must have had the same opinion of him.
Then in regards to the now scuttled Senate relaxing of the dress code because apparently it is “difficult” for Fetterman to dress appropriately because of his issues. Bob Dole used a buttonhook to get dressed every day of his life and it was a timely ordeal to put on a tie whenever he needed to, but he nor many others who had physical limitations and served in the Senate never previously asked for any special accommodation.
