For the most part the cable news channel’s have put legal ‘experts’ on the air non-stop for the past few days…..
BUT?
Some after covering the legal stuff?
Wander over to where Trump and Republicans WANT them to…..
Trying Donald Trump seperate ctiminal and even civil cases as Political exercises….
They REALLY aren’t….
Donald J. Trump has been charged with at least 78 criminal statues of state and federal laws….
More are coming….
THAT IS serious…
Your not guilty until a trial and conviction’s…..
THAT IS important….
But?
The charges are supposed to dealt with as a criminal case…..
NOT a political entertainment episode….
The cases WILL be fought in the court rooms before a jury for a result….
NOT in the media for polling numbers…..
Again?
The criminal charges are NOT and election that you want to win as a means to circumvent the trials and your guilt….
The media SHOULD be aware of this….
The media of course LIVES on video…..
Trump and Republican’s ARE feeding THAT…..
And?
This IS being used for the political gain of Trump’s defence POLITICALLY….
Jonathan Last: “I am not suggesting that Trump’s arraignment shouldn’t be covered. There is a school of thought that seeks to minimize this story in the hope that depriving Trump of oxygen will make him go away. This is foolishness masquerading as prayer.”
“Here is my simple ask of our broadcast media overlords: Trump’s criminal trials should not be covered as if Donald Trump is the star. The star of the story is the rule of law.”
“I know: ‘The rule of law’ doesn’t drive ratings. It doesn’t have influencers with hundreds of thousands of followers. People don’t wear rule-of-law regalia to massive rallies and fly rule-of-law flags in boat parades.”
“But if you don’t present the Trump trials as stories about the rule of law, then they become stories about Trump.”
…
Yesterday, cable news followed the same script with Trump’s third arraignment. We got Trump’s plane on approach. Trump’s plane landing. The motorcade. Exterior shots of the courthouse
It’s COVID, it’s 2016, it’s Hurricane Katrina—it’s the White Bronco chase, all over again.
I am not suggesting that Trump’s arraignment shouldn’t be covered. There is a school of thought that seeks to minimize this story in the hope that depriving Trump of oxygen will make him go away. This is foolishness masquerading as prayer.
Here is my simple ask of our broadcast media overlords:
Trump’s criminal trials should not be covered as if Donald Trump is the star.
The star of the story is the rule of law.
I know: “The rule of law” doesn’t drive ratings. It doesn’t have influencers with hundreds of thousands of followers. People don’t wear rule-of-law regalia to massive rallies and fly rule-of-law flags in boat parades.
But if you don’t present the Trump trials as stories about the rule of law, then they become stories about Trump.
And this rewards him in the attention economy…..
