“Going back more than a year, the group charged with planning the GOP’s first primary debates since 2016 discussed the likelihood that the former president would skip the first one if Fox News ended up hosting, according to two RNC members familiar with the discussions.”
“At a more recent meeting, officials briefly entertained the idea of banning Trump from future debates if he didn’t show up in Milwaukee on Wednesday night.”
“Yet on both occasions, the RNC officials decided the best response was to do nothing.”
On the latest Pod Save Ameriva the guest was s former GOP strategist who worked for Jeb Bush. He said those who think there’s an appetite for a GlennYiungkin or Brian Kemp to come in and sweep the nomination away from Trump don’t know today’s GOP.
The one person he thought could come in late and possibly knock Trump off? The man who is interviewing him tomorrow night. Tucker Carlson.

I don’t think it’s at all likely rhar Carlson could enter late and take the nomination from Trump..
I just see that as mote likely than Glenn Youngkin or Brian Kemp being able to do it.
Youngkin and Kemp are just different faces offering the same Trump lite that most of the other contenders already are with no success.
Much like Trump himself in 2016 Carlson would be running as a media savvy barnburner with no interest in taking the party back to the Mitt Romney days or GW Bush days.
He’d be a thinner younger Trump who isn’t yet indicted.
