The California Democrat is 89 years old….
The Senate seat out there is a ‘safe’ Democratic one…..
Rep. Adam Schiff lead’s contestant’s vying for the seat come 2024….
Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) will not seek re-election in 2024, she said Tuesday.
Why it matters: Several Democrats had already announced campaigns for her seat before she officially announced her retirement.
Driving the news: “I am announcing today I will not run for reelection in 2024 but intend to accomplish as much for California as I can through the end of next year when my term ends,” Feinstein said in a statement.
- She said she will focus her energy in her last two years in Congress on pushing legislation, specifically on gun violence, stating: “Even with a divided Congress, we can still pass bills that will improve lives.“
What they’re saying: Rep. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.), one of the House Democrats running for Feinstein’s seat, said in a statement: “Feinstein is one of the finest legislators our state and country have ever known, and her retirement will be felt throughout Congress, California, and the nation.”
- Rep. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) has also announced a bid for the seat.
- Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) also plans to jump in the race…..
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Oakland/Berkeley, Calif., succeeding Ron Dellums) was the only member of either House of Congress to vote against the 2001 Authorization of the Use of Military Force against Al-Qaeda and the Taliban government of Afghanistan.
Some want to cancel the authorization’s …
But President’s go when they want to anyways
Congress does not stop them
My Name Is Jack says
Feinstein is now claiming she didn’t authorize the statement and that she hasn’t made up her mind as to whether she will run or not.
This is just the latest in several bizzare matters involving her.
It is quite obvious that the woman is senile.
Not only should she not run for re-election,she should immediately resign. Its sad to see someone who has served with distinction in the past go out like this.
Bonus Quote of the Day
“Oh, no, I’m not announcing anything. I will one day.”
— Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), in an interview with Raw Story, about an hour after her office released the statement on her decision not to seek re-election.
