The Hill…..
President Biden delivered his the State of the Union address on Tuesday, a speech at times feisty and jovial, serious and stern. It was his third time addressing a joint session of Congress but his first before a divided government.
Biden began by speaking of “possibilities” and calling for Congress to find “consensus.” He lauded his administration’s work on infrastructure and rolled out a plan to use only made-in-America construction supplies on federal projects.
Biden has tried to appeal to Republicans in his address, calling on them to work with him over the next two years of a divided Congress.
Over more than an hour, Biden touted his administration’s and Democrats’ accomplishments over the past year, using the speech as a launching pad for a 2024 presidential run.
At the same time, Republicans are looking to fight back, and they’ve already started. Biden was heckled from some Republicans amid his speech, including a robust exchange on Medicare and calls for securing the border while Biden talked about curbing fentanyl trafficking…..
Politico…..
President Joe Biden used Tuesday night’s State of the Union to urge a newly divided Congress to “finish the job” to help the nation through a series of historic trials.
But his appeal for bipartisanship was also twinned with an implicit contrast to incendiary elements of the Republican Party in the audience before him. At times, Biden seemed to take delight in ribbing lawmakers on the other side of the aisle — wearing a Cheshire cat grin when he did so.
Beginning his third year in office and with a likely re-election bid on the horizon, Biden made a pitch for the parties to unite on Covid funding, health care prices, junk fees and police reform. He received applause on occasion but also jeers from some of the newly emboldened Republicans, who accused him at times of lying about their desire to cut entitlement programs….

President Biden was scolded by a wide swath of Republican lawmakers for dubiously claiming they want to cut Social Security and Medicare.
During his second State of the Union address Tuesday night, Biden face strong resistance from the GOP, who he accused of wanting to take the economy “hostage.”
“Some of my Republican friends want to take the economy hostage, which I get it, unless I agree with their economic plans.” Biden said. “All of you know should know what those plans are.”
“Instead of making the wealthy pay their fair share, some Republicans, some Republicans want Medicare and Social Security sunset,” Biden said before clarifying, “I’m not saying it’s a majority.”
FOUR SUPREME COURT JUSTICES ABSENT FROM BIDEN’S STATE OF THE UNION
That was met with resounding boos with lawmakers waving their hands and shaking their heads.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., was seen shouting, “Liar!” at the president…..

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders gave a combative speech Tuesday evening in response to President Joe Biden’s State of the Union address, drawing a sharp contrast with Biden as she delivered a series of blistering criticisms of the president.
Sanders called Biden “unfit to serve as commander in chief,” said his “weakness puts our nation and the world at risk” and described the political landscape in dire terms. “The dividing line in America is no longer between right or left. The choice is between normal or crazy,” she said.
Sanders sought to highlight a generational difference with Biden, saying, “At 40, I’m the youngest governor in the country, and at 80, he’s the oldest president in American history.” She also asserted in her speech that “it is time for a new generation of Republican leadership.”
The speech gave Sanders a major national platform to speak to the country and counter Biden after the president highlighted his priorities and agenda to the nation in his speech…
