AP has a piece looking at whose on the President Biden Supreme Court list…
Two of the three judges now on Biden’s short list were evaluated last year by White House aides, although that early vetting did not include deep dives into their opinions or backgrounds, formal interviews or FBI background checks.
They are Ketanji Brown Jackson, 51, a recent appointee to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit, where she has served since June 2021, and Leondra Kruger, 45, a California Supreme Court judge since 2015 who would be the first person in more than 40 years to move from a state court to the Supreme Court if she were to be confirmed.
Jackson is seen as the top candidate. And she, too, has a proven record of bipartisan support: She was confirmed to the appeals court on a 53-44 vote. Republican Sens. Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Susan Collins of Maine and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina voted for her.
But J. Michelle Childs has rapidly become a serious third candidate after House Majority Whip Jim Clyburn, D.-S.C., publicly announced his support for her, as did the state’s Republican senators, Graham and Tim Scott. Graham has made clear Childs is his preferred choice.
The 55-year-old is a federal judge in South Carolina who has been nominated to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit. That nomination is on hold while she’s under consideration for the high court….

Child’s is the obvious choice.Theres no doubt of her confirmation .The knock on her is she’s not from a prestigious law school ,which in my view has nothing to do with anything and some liberals don’t think she’s liberal enough.
In my view she would make an excellent justice, will undoubtedly get a few Republican votes(Graham and Scott are pretty much a lock) and will add to the collegiality of the Court.
jamesb says
Agreed….
Lindsey says she can get 10 Republican Senate votes
Again
Progressives would come up short
Zreebs says
Republicans must really love her if she were to get ten GOP votes. No wonder James supports her. I am virtually certain that there hasn’t been a judge in the psst year that has received five or more GOP votes. A few have received 3 votes(usually Murkowski, collins and Graham) and I think I saw where Mike Rounds voted for st least one judge.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
The confirmation of Sonia Sotomayor (a Latina from New York) was supported by nine out of forty Republicans + Joe Lieberman (Indep.-Conn.) [as well, as of course, by Bernie Sanders, Indep.-VT)
“The Senate confirmed Sonia Sotomayor to be an associate justice of the Supreme Court on August 6, 2009, by a vote of 68–31. The Senate was composed of 58 Democrats, 2 independents who caucused with the Democrats, and 40 Republicans at the time. All Democrats present (including the Senate’s two Independents), along with nine Republicans, voted for her. Democrat Ted Kennedy, a supporter of the nomination, was absent due to ongoing health issues.”

Her nomination had passed the Senate Judiciary Committee by a vote of 13-6.

The Senate confirmed Elena Kagan to be an associate justice of the Supreme Court on August 5, 2010, by a vote of 63–37. All Democrats, except for Ben Nelson [but including former Republican Arlen Specter], voted for her, as did Independents Joe Lieberman and Bernie Sanders, and five Republicans: Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham, Judd Gregg, Richard Lugar and Olympia Snowe.
36 out of 41 Republicans voted Nay.

Democratic Socialist Dave says
It appears that several of Joe Biden’s judicial nominations that had reached the Senate’s floor were confirmed by voice vote or unanimous consent, while several were opposed by a couple of dozen Senators and supported by 40-50.
So it’s not exactly true that no Biden judicial nominations received only a handful of Republican yeas.
On the other hand, there’s a significant number who were opposed by three or four dozen Senators and supported by fewer than 60.
For the fate of 100 judicial nominations in this Congress, see:

Scott P says
I’d be surprised if any Biden nominee got 10 Republican Senators to vote to confirm. Probably 5 tops–Murkowski, Romney, Collins, Sasse, and maybe Graham or Cassidy.
My Name Is Jack says
Scott might vote for Childs if she is the nominee.
He issued a very favorable statement about here in S.C. over the weekend.
Then again, who knows? If she is nominated ,the Republican hierarchy in S.C. ,which is totally dominated by extremists ,many of the Marjorie Taylor Greene variety ,might get to him.
I think Graham will vote for her no matter what.Since he is regularly denounced by state party people ,he doesn’t seem to pay much attention to them.
Zreebs says
I think Scott had kind words for Child’s, so I assume he would vote for her.
Zreebs says
I am very, very disappointed to say this, but I think DSD is lying with his statement that says that there were judicial nominees in the past year that got approved by voice vote.
I am disappointed that DSD cessentally called me a liar without adequately researching the topic.
Click on the link in the confirmation vote box in the link below to see to see which senators voted for, against, or did not vote for each and every nominee appointed by Buden.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_federal_judges_appointed_by_Joe_Biden
If DSD can give me one judicial nominee that he claims was approved by voice vote, I will research the link I provide you above and tell you which Republicans voted yes, which voted no, and which did not vote,
Zreebs says
My statement was not entirely correct.
There did appear to be only two voice votes – both for each of the two nominees on the federal claims court.
There were a small handful of other nominees that did have more than a few GOP nominees, but for a very strong majority almost every GOP senator voted no or did not vote.
Zreebs says
I apologize for my unfair comments to DSD.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Zreebs; I hope we can disagree without thinking that one of us is calling the other a liar.
That thought certainly never entered my mind.
I certainly don’t take it that way if somebody has a different opinion, data or conclusion from my own (unless some snarky or contemptuous comment is attached; I hope you didn’t take me to have made one about you).
No one’s truth (individually or collectively) is perfect; the only way to improve it is to give examples and debate their implications.
And I’m hardly rock-solid in my interpretation of the data that I could find. For one thing, I hastily (but honestly) mistook your remark at first as referring in general for Republican votes for Democratic Presidents’ nominations (e.g. JJ. Sotomayor & Kagan) rather than to the present Congress’s record with Biden’s nominations.
When I refined my search for data to test your assertion, I did find some strong votes for confirmation.
But on balance, without making absolute statements, I think you’re probably right: most votes have at least 45 Republicans voting no.
Here are two examples where they didn’t

But checking the Wikipedia article that Zreebs cited, there seems to be only one nomination to a U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals (covering more than one state) where the Yeas exceeded 60. And (as Jack could elaborate better) that particular court generally deals with appeals from Administrative Law Judges, such as immigration judges or the tax court, rather than from ordinary U.S. District Courts.
The other instances of confirmation votes over 60, were lower down the table for judges on a U.S. District Court. (confined to a single state or possession).

Dave, Again, I apologize for my unfair comment. I hope you accept it.
While this is a poor excuse, I am under enormous stress lately. My company is trying to force me to return to work or they will fire me. I tire exceedingly easily, and I now sometimes get confused easier than I should. Firing me would cause me to lose my health insurance and life insurance, and right now, that is a terrible option.
jamesb says
Glad to see you and DSD worked things out herr….
Hope you can work something out with your job Z…..
If not?
You can go on to find something better….
Be well
The BEST to ya
And stay STRONG

And lastly, I am worried that I am beginning to lose my ability to think and write critically. I will try do my best. The people closest to me say that I have not declined in these areas, but I have my doubts.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Zreebs, I hope your health and employment situation improve as smoothly and swiftly as possible.
As so many of us have said about the Saving Remnant on this blog, we can’t afford to lose you.
My Name Is Jack says
Hang in there my friend.
I think I speak for all here…Your comments are always welcomed!
jamesb says
Yes Z’s comment’s ARE welcomed
He may be a pain in the ass sometimes
But we ALL share that here, eh?
Keep at it Z❗️😉
Zreebs says
James, Thank you. While I can’t speak for he others, I accept your apology and acknowledgement that ya’ll could be a pain in the ass sometimes.
On an unrelated subject, you haven’t said whether you have had discussions with CG on improving your blogs. This might not be obvious to you, but CG can be a proud person and it might be difficult for him to approach you and admit that he needs your help in creating a more successful blog. So you might need to approach him first. He will appreciate your initiative.
jamesb says
I haven’t had any discussion’s’ with CG / at all……
And I hope u not implying that is how i deal with him cause it isn’t……
Zreebs says
James, I am not implying anything. only you and CG know the details of your conversations/negotiations. Unless either he or you tells us what was promised in your secret communications, the rest of us wouldn’t know.
My Name Is Jack says
On that note, one of the conversations that CG revealed was that James had indeed been vaccinated and that his refusal to acknowledge the same was nothing more than him enjoying the attention that his non acknowledgement stirred up.
Interestingly, James never denied the veracity of CGs revelation.
Zreebs says
I wonder if the clandestine meetings between CG and James are ultimstelydesigned to go after their perceived enemies -perhaps Keith and me?
jamesb says
You ain’t funny Z……
Zreebs says
Thank you Dave.
I am humiliated by my careless mistake above.
I will strive to do better in the future, and for several reasons, that probably means and should mean fewer posts by me.
Keith says
I would hope not Zreebs. You are to valuable not to post.
Zreebs says
And let me know if I can be of additional assistance.
Keith says
That would be “too” valuable.
