For ALL of you who keep reading that Donald Trump has frozen out the 2024 Republican Presidential possibles?
Stop believing media bull shit….
Pence is joining other’s in running for President as a REPUBLICAN...
No one can guess how successful he’ll be…
But he’s getting his act together and he has joined others on the road….
Donald Trump may not like that others are running…
But he has NOT be able to stop them as his approval numbers among the party faithful fall….
Mike Pence is adding staffers for his brand-new office in downtown Washington — inching closer to a possible White House run even as his standing worsens with former President Donald Trump and his base of supporters.
Ghost of SE says
Only with a fractured field does he stand a chance, and that’s just Iowa. Hopeless elsewhere.
jamesb says
The point IS?
The early GOP 2024 field IS out and sbout collecting IOU’s and money…..
Everyday biting more off Trump….
Scott P says
Not a chance.
Zreebs says
Pence has less of a chance of winning the nomination than Quayle ever did. Trump fans won’t vote for him for being disloyal , nor will Trump haters for all Pence did to legitimize Trump. And the story that Pence needed to ask Quayle for political and legal advice on how he can work with Trump to end democracy, well that is just icing on the cake.
And there will be other mean-spirited Republicans who will appeal to the religious right more than Pence.
jamesb says
Well guys?
Pence IS up there in the poll’s no matter what….
It’s Trump’s world….
But getting a little crowded….
Democratic Socialist Dave says
And Mike Pence — although I think entirely earnest, sincere and patriotic in his efforts — will get no credit from either side for his early chairmanship of the Coronavirus Task Force.
It eventually proved impossible both to carry forth the apolitical recommendations of the country’s best public-health epidemiologists and to appease Donald Trump, who eventually tried to replace Mike Pence with has all-wise, all-knowing, selflessly-philanthropic (omniscient, omnipotent and omnibenevolent) Self.
My Name Is Jack says
A “frozen field.?”
Well No.
A “field” that a single candidate,Trump, hovers over?
Yes.
So far all you have are people “considering” running. We have all seen this play before.
Yet no one has formally announced a candidacy.
In my view,if Trump announces he’s actually seeking the nomination? Most of these “potential” candidates will fall by the wayside.
Irish they would all run though.
The spectacle of Trump making his wild accusations and generally crazy remarks about Pence, DeSantis, Cruz(does he still have an ugly wife?) etc. would be hilarious!
bdogwork says
Every time that comment about Cruz’s wife is brought up and the one where he dissed Karly Fiorina’s face is both the funniest (in a pure juvenile way) and the most inappropriate attacks ever used…I shake my head that the President (before he was elected) said these things in Public and was elected…
This also brings me back to the Moment Trump lost the Presidency…There were a few big ones, but the Bleach Press Conference was the moment where you could see he lost the chance of winning…People were dying from a pandemic and the President is talking about bleaching people’s lungs…But the mind boggling thing is that still 72 Million plus people voted for that…Incredible…
jamesb says
Yes……
And the guy might run again??????
Poor Milley?
How is the guy gonna stop worrying
Scott P says
Even if Trump decides against jumping into the 2024 race he may tease a run until late 2023.
That would really fuck any other Republicans considering making the race.
But that’s what these yellow bellied cowards deserve. To have their ambitions thwarted by the Dear Leader.
Then the groveling for the endorsement will start.
I want a front row seat to see Mike Pence beg for it!
jamesb says
Again?
The top names in poll’s from the linked piece ARE traveling the country collecting IOU’s …..
Staffing up…..
Starting to collect money……
So ALL this Trump has ‘frozen things’ IS BULL SHIT right now….
All this ‘when’ is just conjecture for Trump who one would assume IS pissed about people NOT just kissing his ass and telling him how ‘Great’ he is…..,
His shadow HAS diminished
But IS STILL there of course
jamesb says
Please let the Republican’s support the damn “loser’ who will drag them them down….
My Name Is Jack says
Uh again.
He remains the leading candidate,by far ,for the Republican nomination.
Your refusal to accept that reality only shows once again your obsession with “Trump is Fading.”
An obsession that we have been viewing on these pages for five years now.
Zreebs says
Actually, James was saying this for more than six years now. Several Months before the beginning of the 2016 primaries, Trump had something like 20% support among Republicans and James was saying that would be the maximum amount he would get, and he would fade.
At this point, Trump is likely to run, and if he runs, he is likely to win the nomination. So we might still be hearing Trump is fading for another 3+ years. As James would be the first to tell you, you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.
jamesb says
Might
And
Might NOT……..
I have also been saying he’d be a One time loser weak assed candidate…..
Not too bad for Democrats and probably why the other people ARE already running….
Oh and?
Nobody here or even Trump himself guessed he would become President

Opinion | Why Sane Republicans Are Purging Themselves
Last week, Gonzalez (Ohio), the 37-year-old former rising star, announced that he wouldn’t stay and fight his Trump-backed primary challenger, walking away from what had once been a safe seat in Congress.
The decision was greeted with dismay among anti-Trumpers of both parties who saw Gonzalez’s survival as a test of whether Trump’s grip on the GOP could be shaken. It also came as a surprise. Gonzalez was an attractive candidate, with a strong resume and lots of cash, and he had out-performed Trump by nearly 7 points in November. Why would he hand his nemesis an easy win?
The answer is Gonzalez didn’t quit because he feared he couldn’t win, but because it just wasn’t worth it anymore. Winning, it turns out, is not winning if the prize feels a lot more like a loss.
“You could fight your butt off and win this thing, but are you really going to be happy?” he asked. “And the answer is, probably not.”
This was the key to his decision to self-purge: He could spend a year fighting off merde-slinging deplorables, only to win another two years sitting in a caucus next to Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.), Madison Cawthorn (R-N.C.), Paul Gosar (R- Ariz.) and the other avatars of Trumpism…

Sane Republicans Are Self-Deporting
The GOP will be dumber, meaner, and crazier…
..from behind a Politico paywall piece.…
..from Politicalwire…
Charlie Sykes: “Trump has already made dozens of endorsements in down-ballot races against Republican officials who refused to back his claims of election fraud, not to mention the 10 members of Congress who actually voted to impeach him for inciting the Jan. 6 insurrection.”
“The result is a Trump-led purge of dissidents, but the bigger story — and the one with longer-term implications — may be the self-deportation of the sane, the decent and the principled, who simply opt to leave on their own.”
“Their political emigration is profoundly changing the face of the GOP, and it is happening at every level of politics, from local school boards to the United States Senate. Whatever the result of next year’s elections, the GOP that remains will be meaner, dumber, crazier and more beholden than ever to the defeated, twice-impeached former president.”
My Name Is Jack says
You do understand that Sykes is here saying that Trump owns the Republican Party.
Keith says
Not true, several people thought Trump could win, especially Zreebs, because Trump spoke directly to the majority of the racist voters who populate the Republican Party.
I certainly did after knocking on hundreds of doors in Cleveland and understanding what I always thought and feared, the average GOP voter is a bigoted hateful person addicted to FOX.
Don’t forget, our resident Republican Corey decided I was evil for correctly pointing out the racist undertones of the Bush and Romney campaigns. Truth be told, even he has to admit that this is true.
The Republicans believe the election was stolen, why wouldn’t they flock to the man they think was cheated?
jamesb says
Z is one….
Name several others?
Democratic Socialist Dave says
SE, me, (& I think T. P. L.)…
Democratic Socialist Dave says
… maybe Daniel, too
Democratic Socialist Dave says
That doesn’t mean we thought Trump’s election was very likely, just that we weren’t ready to join those who absolutely excluded the possibility.
jamesb says
Ok….
I get it….
His actual WIN WAS a BIG Surprise to just about EVERYBODY ….
YES….
Zreebs says
Correct. NeitherDave nor I thought that Trump Would win; we both thought he could win. Both of us were surprised by Trump’s landslide electoral victory.
Zreebs says
No. It was a “big” surprise to you. james was predicting that Hillary would win over 350 electoral votes and were even criticizing 538.com when they said that Hillary had about a 70% chance of winning. I stood by 538 and we had multiple discussions about it, and you never understood that meant 538 was saying that Hillary could easily lose. Incredibly after all these years, you still don’t understand it. None of us expected Trump to win, but no one was surprised more than you. I’ll admit I was surprised that Trump won as many electoral votes as he did.
James, most of us made predictions that Trump would lose, including me, but that is not the same as saying it was a big surprise. I might have expected the Giants to beat Washington last week, but it wasn’t a big surprise that they instead lost again.
jamesb says
Giants where -3 i believe going in
jamesb says
I do NOT think i would be wrong in describing just about EVERYBODY VERY SURPRISED with the actual DJT win…..
Yes there where polling warnings in the last few days but my initial comment IS a true one….
DISBELIEF WAS the overriding feeling across America and beyond
Democratic Socialist Dave says
The only relevant post-and-comment archive I could find for PDog in November 2016 was this one, from the Internet Archive’s Wayback Machine:

However you have to poke around more than I could to find stray but relevant predictions. SE did remark that as a native Georgian, he’d be surprised if DJT carried the Peach State (which he took in 2016 but not 2020, losing in 2020 partly for the reasons SE cites).

Good hunting DSD….
We WHERE ALL suprised!

Pence Says He’s Spoken with Trump a Dozen Times
Former Vice President Mike Pence said on a podcast that he has spoken to Donald Trump about “a dozen times” since President Biden was sworn into office in January.
