I’ve been saying this has a political benefit for the Israeli leader, who is under indictment and was a week ago told to stand aside while someone else tried to form a government….
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is pressing an aggressive campaign against Hamas, targeting its leaders, strategic infrastructure and military sites to deter the militant group from continuing its attacks on Israel. The operation could aid Mr. Netanyahu’s other vital goal of staying in power.
One week earlier, Mr. Netanyahu’s opponents were poised to unseat him and form a new government, potentially ending the rule of the country’s longest-serving leader as he faces corruption charges. He denies wrongdoing.
But the past six days of national turmoil have offered the Israeli prime minister a political lifeline. When Arab parties and a right-wing politician pulled out of talks this week to join or back a rival coalition, the threat to unseat Mr. Netanyahu appeared to collapse.
“Netanyahu has always thrived in environments of uncertainty, of chaos and crisis,” said Mitchell Barak, an Israeli pollster and director of Keevoon Global Research, who worked as an aide to Mr. Netanyahu in the 1990s. “He basically goes from crisis to crisis.”….
Note…
It actually seems that Hamas is helping the Israeli leader politically?…

The US gives $3.3b in aid to Israel. In my opinion, Biden should be demanding a ceasefire on all sides – especially after the Associated Press building was deliberately hit.

A little 411 Z…..
American Jews vote in blocks usually….
The vast majority of them vote Democratic….
80% of them ARE PRO-Israel….
You figure it out….

I admire politicians who do the right thing -even when pressured to do otherwise. Didn’t you support Cheney? Her actions were not in her personal interest, but she did what was right anyway.

Yes …For a Republican she gets props…..
Said so already and I say it again….

James, here’s a 411 for you.
The balance of American Jewish opinion on the Middle East favors secularism and a real two-state solution when Israeli governments are moving further and further away from them.
J Street has established itself as a real player, while identification with AIPAC (which is doggedly loyal to Netanyahu and the Israeli Right) is dwindling.
CG might give you a different answer, probably based on far more solid evidence than mine.
jamesb says
Not MY POINT…
American President’s will crawl over nail’s to support Israel PERIOD….
DSD?
American Jew’s are NEVER GONNA support an President siding with the Arabs…
The who’s right son’t mean a damn thing to them
It’s their ‘home land’…
Democratic Socialist Dave says
No president is going to side with the Arabs (in general) against Israel (in general).
But that’s a far cry from supporting the policies of the recent right-wing coalitions around Likud and Netanyahu.
Opposing efforts to evict Arabs from East Jerusalem is not “siding with the Arabs”. And this is not a policy that I think most American Jews support.
Zreebs says
Apartheid is evil – whether in South Africa in the 1980s or in Israel today. Biden’s Israeli policy looks likeTrump’s – and that is nowhere near good enough.
Zreebs says
Perhaps it is my imagination, but I don’t think I hear as much about J Street as I did years ago, with AIPAC being more likely to be in the national news. Again, this is solely my perception, and perceptions are often wrong.
jamesb says
I have NOT forgotten the part about OVER 300 rockets fired INTO Israeli cities and airport…
There IS a LOT of blame to go around over there….
And again?
Hamas doing this just plays into Netanyahu’s hands no matter how bad the results look in the media
