The word used is ‘THREATENED’ against stop giving….
Isn’t THAT illegal?…(*NOPE)
People getting held up by their own party for money?
DAMN!
The tactic, roundly criticized by campaign finance experts as deceptive, was also employed by the Trump campaign from September until the 2020 election to shore up its dwindling coffers.
Many Trump supporters who intended to donate only once were unwittingly enrolled to give weekly because they didn’t read the fine print requiring them to uncheck a box, a New York Times investigation found, resulting in credit card complaints, overdrafts and the Trump campaign refunding tens of millions of dollars to its supporters….
…
*Craig Holman, a lobbyist on good-government issues at Public Citizen, said requests for recurring donations are common but should always offer clear instructions and don’t threaten repercussions if a donor opts out.
The Republicans’ tactic, he said, is “extortion,” “akin to blackmail” and “highly unethical,” but it is not illegal. Political donors who feel duped or coerced don’t have a lot of legal recourse under campaign finance or consumer protection laws….
*Note…
Who writes the criminal code?
lawmakers that need campaign money, eh?
Even so?
The Trump campaign had to give back millions to those who they charged without the donors permission on a monthly basis…
“ defectors?”
What’s Trump going to do them?Kick them out of the cult?
Good God !
What kind of lunacy grips these people?
But Jack. Surely RFK Jr has the same kind of hold over Democrats right?
I mean it’s all the same.
From what I can see that whole daylong rant yesterday was generated by a Fox story about RFK Jr. encouraging Gavin Newsom to veto a vaccination bill that he ultimately signed.
I am fairly certain that the entire Democratic State Assembly delegation thinks this particular Kennedy is nuts.
I also wonder how anyone could claim that they weren’t “aware” that fat Rush wasn’t an anti-vaccine advocate. It was going on for years starting with the measles.
So who are the prominent politicians that RFK Jr has recently been a surrogate or? From what I can tell, he did some consulting work on vaccines for Donald Trump and he made statements that suggested he might have favored Tulsi Gabbard in the 2020 primaries. CG implies he is a power in the Democratic Party and is a surrogate for Democratic politicians.
His cousin ex-Cong. Joe Kennedy III, must have as much, if not even more, practical influence on Democratic politics and politicians as RFK, Jr, even after Joe did himself little credit in his primary run against Sen. Ed Markey.
RFK, Jr, makes no noticeable impression on New England news. I would gauge his influence on politics and policy to be no greater than, that of my former Congressman, Patrick Kennedy (D-RI, son of Ted).
I would have guessed that RFK Jr’s influence was even less than that of Patrick Kennedy! At least with Patrick, you would see him on the news occasionally. Not that I am on the inside, but I just never see or hear about RFK Jr. – if you exclude CG’s posts.
RFK Jr would be the Uncle of the recent Massachusetts Congressman,
For many years RFK Jr was a major figure in the party whose support was coveted. That has changed a bit after Covid, because of his long-standing opposition to vaccines. I do not know why Zreebs finds it so hard to say that Democrats should distance themselves from him. It should be easy to assume that the days of RFK Jr (who used to be based out of NYC but I assume now lives in LA with his actress wife Cheryl Hines) hosting fundraisers, etc, are a thing of the past.
Generally speaking, while I am happy to help bring things to light for Zreebs, it is good to try to get information from a variety of sources. I think some here stick to what they feel is reaffirming to them.
Perhaps some effort to read a bit about his life and activities could lead to better perspective.

This is from 2019 before Covid, where two of his siblings and his (now deceased) niece wrote a lengthy Op-Ed imploring people not to listen to RFK Jr. on vaccines.
If he is such an obscure figure, why would they do that?

It should not be difficult for anybody running for office to not accept any contributions from him. It’s not like somebody has to do an investigation to know what he believes. He is openly “waging war” against the Covid vaccine online everyday. He has been banned from Instagram but still has hundreds and thousands of followers on Twitter and Faecbook, where he has not been banned.
So, to answer my question, he was a surrogate for Ted Kennedy and perhaps Al Gore in 2020?
Well, for example, he had been doing some work for Donald Trump on vaccines at about that time.
So the fact that his siblings implored people not to listen to RFK Jr on vaccines is your evidence that he was influential?
Should Republicans refuse to accept money from Rand Paul and other Republicans who would walk around unvaccinated without a mask?
Well he certainly put Tulsi over the top now didn’t he Zreebs!
This whole one person campaign Corey appears to be waging to convince five people a person named Kennedy is a major player in the Democratic Party is a hoot.
The entire California State Legislature actually runs in the other direction when he comes on the scene, and I would love to see who he’s been holding fundraisers for. Perhaps Tulsi.
I even asked one of our State Party officials if RFK Jr. raises money for them and I got a hardy laugh. His cousins yes, Jr. no.
Ignoring whether this is an ethical practice, I can’t imagine that there are too many demographic groups that respond favorably when they are threatened: Republicans, evangelicals, who else?
Those in cults have been known to respond favorably to threats.
