Republicans down their sure are pissed their voters elected TWO Democratic US Senator’s and voted FOR President Joe Biden….
And they are working hard to make sure something like THAT doesn’t happen again…
The hell with the legality of their moves….
Numerous investigations found NO significant voter fraud in last November’s and this January’s voting….Trump’s fraud accusations where unfounded….
Democrats are doubling down on trying to pass national Voting Rights Bill….
President Biden on the Republicans efforts?
“This makes Jim Crow look like Jim Eagle,” Biden said, emphasizing he would do “everything in my power” to pass legislation to protect voting rights.
….
The measure is one of the first major voting bills to pass as dozens of state legislatures consider restrictions on how ballots are cast and counted in the aftermath of the 2020 presidential election, when President Donald Trump attacked without evidence the integrity of election results in six states he lost, including Georgia.
The new law imposes new identification requirements for those casting ballots by mail; curtails the use of drop boxes for absentee ballots; allows electors to challenge the eligibility of an unlimited number of voters and requires counties to holdhearings on such challenges within 10 days; makes it a crime for third-party groups to hand out food and water to voters standing in line; blocks the use of mobile voting vans, as Fulton County did last year after purchasing two vehicles at a cost of more than $700,000; and prevents local governments from directly accepting grants from the private sector.
The 95-page law also strips authority from the secretary of state, making him a nonvoting member of the State Election Board, and allows lawmakers to initiate takeovers of local election boards — measures that critics said could allow partisan appointees to slow down or block election certification or target heavily Democratic jurisdictions, many of which are in the Atlanta area and are home to the state’s highest concentrations of Black and Brown voters.
The measure, backed by Republicans, sailed out of the state House and Senate on party-line votes in a single afternoon….
…
During the Senate debate in Georgia on Thursday, State Sen. Gloria Butler, a Black Democrat who represents suburban Atlanta, called the measure “an unabashed assault on voting rights unlike anything we’ve seen since the Jim Crow era.”….

Joe Manchin: “The notion of restricting voting to a single 8 or 12-hour time frame is not indicative of how most voters live. Expanding voter access to the polls by requiring at least fifteen days, including two weekend days, of early voting in every state will increase turnout.”

All the misguided praise for these Georgia Republicans for not stealing an election comes down to this..
Three issues here:Race,Race and oh yes Race.
No other way to cut it.
At the end these crackers show who they are and what they are.

And yet, Trump would argue these Republicans are RINOS because they didn’t go far enough or certify his landslide victory.

Well, this bill (now law, unless praise Heaven, some court blocks or voids it) shunts the (now-GOP) Secretary of State off to the side.
And who can think of anything more likely to corrupt a voter than being offered water while spending endless hours in line.
Exactly why we needed the XV Amendment of 1870 (“Congress shall have power to enforce…”) and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
The Democrats (the White Man’s Party) biterly fought the former but were joined by Republicans in passing the latter.
Zreebs says
At the risk of asking a question that I am fairly sure I know the answer:
Why didn’t this bill provide for additional voting machines in the areas of the state where there are long voting lines?
And if Republicans believe that people would wait in lines up to 8 hours so they can get a free glass of water, then have the state provide free water to areas that have long lines. Wouldn’t that be much cheaper than prosecuting people for trying to prevent people from collapsing?
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Once a waiting voter collapses from thirst or hunger, would he or she be eligible for a no-excuses emergency absentee ballot?
Or would the application have to be made from the voter’s hospital bed?

I would argue that they are evil, right Zreebs.
They even arrested a black woman to celebrate.

Texas maybe the next state to restrict voting….
Texas Republicans Look to Restrict Voting
NPR: “One measure that’s been proposed would make distributing ballot applications to voters who didn’t ask for one a felony. Others would outlaw drive thru-voting, and not allow polling locations to be open for more than 12 hours — specifically beyond 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Another would require that election administrators put the same amount of voting machines in every one of their polling sites, no matter what.”
Zreebs says
Jack in his 7:28 identified the top 3 reasons for the voter suppression legislation, and yes, those are evil reasons to suppress the vote.
Republicans want to do to US elections what they did to the US Post office. In order to protect dem9cracy, Democrats can’t let that happen.

Union president says MLB players ready to discuss moving All-Star Game from Georgia in wake of voter-restriction laws
By Michael Silverman [Boston] Globe Staff,
Updated March 26, 2021, 12:33 p.m.
The 91st MLB All-Star Game is scheduled to be played in Atlanta this July. But on Thursday, in the wake of voting-restriction legislation signed into law by the Georgia governor, the executive director of the MLB Players Association said the players are ready to discuss moving their annual midsummer exhibition out of Georgia.
“Players are very much aware” of the Georgia voting bill, which places restrictions on voting that some believe will make it particularly difficult for Black voters to reach the polls, said Tony Clark in an interview with the Globe. “As it relates to the All-Star Game, we have not had a conversation with the league on that issue. If there is an opportunity to, we would look forward to having that conversation.” ….

Corporate pressure against Ga. voter suppression law…
Some of Georgia’s most prominent corporate leaders on Wednesday began to more forcefully criticize the state’s sweeping new election law, acknowledging concerns of civil rights activists and Black business executives who say the measure targets non-white voters and threatens the democratic process.
The chief executives of Delta Air Lines and Coca-Cola pivoted from earlier, more equivocal statements and called the law “unacceptable,” opening an unusual rift with Republican leaders who championed the legislation and typically enjoy a cozy relationship with the state’s business community.
The business lobby in Georgia, home to 18 Fortune 500 companies, wields significant clout in state politics. Civil rights activists blamed influential executives for not helping spike the new law that’s become a focal point in the nationwide, partisan fight over voting rights, and there is rising pressure nationally on corporate titans to defend voting rights more explicitly and oppose Republican efforts in states that could follow Georgia’s lead. Delta’s and Coca-Cola’s latest declarations could push Georgia’s other marquee brands, including UPS and Home Depot, to take a stronger stand.
“Delta’s statement finally tells the truth — even if it’s late,” said Nsé Ufot of the New Georgia Project, which has launched an ad campaign targeting major corporations…
