They NEVER will….
The subject is toxic…..
No President is gonna take the risk….
Neither are Democrats with their slim Marins in both houses of Congress….
American’s love their gun culture…..
Right or Wrong ?
This just ‘is‘….
Senate Democrats have told BuzzFeed News they are considering curtailing their ambitions on gun reform and pushing a narrower piece of legislation that can actually pass, rather than sweeping reforms that would likely be doomed.
The party winning both chambers of Congress plus the White House may have raised hopes for long-sought gun control measures, such as a ban on assault rifles. But Democrats are instead starting to look at smaller measures that can win bipartisan support and break the National Rifle Association’s strong influence over Congress.
With the Senate split 50–50, any gun control measure needs at least 10 Republican votes to overcome a filibuster. The shooting rampage in Atlanta that left eight people dead this week has not softened Republican resistance to any new laws that broadly restrict access to firearms. In interviews with BuzzFeed News, a half dozen Republican senators expressed opposition to universal background checks and said that policy would likely be dead on arrival in the Senate.
That leaves Democrats with a choice between lowering their aims or fighting for an extensive bill and risking coming away with nothing. There does not appear to be much appetite for the latter path.
“Do you try and move a comprehensive gun bill that will go nowhere?” said Delaware Sen. Chris Coons. “Or do you take a small bill, pass it, then a medium-sized bill and pass it?”….
Note….
The New York Attorney General’s office has had more success against the National Rifle Assoc. then Federal lawmakers….

GOP Senator Threatens Biden If He Takes His Gun
Sen. Mike Rounds (R-SD) warned President Joe Biden on Twitter not “to come and take it” with a picture of a statue of himself holding a shotgun.

maybe he was talking about taking the statue down.

Hmmmm?
Two top Senate Democrats are weighing whether gun reform can be a long shot issue proving they can work with Republicans — and don’t have to scrap the filibuster after all.
What we’re hearing: Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) have been privately negotiating how to revise H.R. 8, the House Democrats’ background checks bill, to gain support from at least 10 Republicans.
As of now, Republicans say the bill is a “nonstarter,” since it goes too far to limit gun rights. But GOP lawmakers are increasingly accepting universal background checks for commercial firearms sales and other provisions laid out in the 2013 bill, co-sponsored by Sens. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) and Pat Toomey (R-Pa.).
The politics around background checks also have changed dramatically since 2013, top Democrats point out, as two-thirds of Americans support tougher gun laws.
This is the sweet spot they’re looking at, sources familiar with the talks tell Axios.
Why it matters: Democrats think it’s now or never to finally find bipartisan compromise on gun reform….

Guns Are Not a Winning Issue for Democrats
Matt Yglesias: “The urgency is understandable. But from a political standpoint, Democrats would be better off focusing on parts of their agenda that have more realistic prospects of success. It’s not just that the odds are low for passing even modest gun-control legislation. It’s that the kinds of measures that are politically feasible would have little effect without policing reform, while those that would save large numbers of lives are politically toxic.”

Another signal that gun legislation isn’t going anywhere on a Federal level….
Romney Won’t Support New Gun Laws
Sen. Mitt Romney told the Salt Lake Tribune that he will not support attempts to tighten federal gun laws in the wake of recent back-to-back mass shootings, although he’s open to working with his colleagues on improving background check technology.

You’re surprised by this?
Despite Romney becoming the Democrats favorite Republican,he remains a Republican.
Zreebs says
Well if Romney can help improve background check technology, then let’s take his offer.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Consider Mitt Romney’s present political and geographic circumstance.
It would be easier to be more flexible were he still Governor of Massachusetts.
