We KNOW the verdict ….
We’ve had the case…
Trump IS GUILTY….
But will be acquitted…
Get it over with for goodness sake…
Nothing will change the most of the Republicans from supporting Trump, even though their very lives where in danger…
The vote came after Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) signaled that he will vote to acquit Trump. In an email, McConnell made his plans clear, according to an official who confirmed on the condition of anonymity….
jamesb says
WashPost from apiece last night has Cassidy on the fence now….
DSD?
The Senate is lost…..
CG says
Whatever the eventual outcome, this development is very bad news for Team Trump and their enablers.
This trial will not be over anytime soon.
Congresswoman Jaime Herrera-Buetler (R-WA) will become very famous.
jamesb says
This is ALSO bad news for Democrats CG…..
Joe Biden has to be livid…..
This a stall….
Every hour of this takes from Biden’s rear end….
It pushes the stimulus package back….
It pushes confirmations back….
It push’s the spotlight off of Democratic ‘wants’….
And it dilutes the whole thing for American’s who I suggest will grow wary of this like I am by the hour…..
CG says
I don’t know why Joe Biden should be “livid” but as a non-Democrat, this is not my problem.
History demands all the facts so that all these Senators cast a vote fully upon the record. It will be a huge part of their legacies.
Biden should embrace this. Being not Donald Trump is the reason he is President and the best thing he has going. The trial is of course deflecting from the TJ Ducklo scandal and the broken promise Biden made on Day 1 to fire anyone who mistreated someone.
CG says
The Senate will still vote on other thing. They were supposed to be on Recess next week. Let them skip that now. The deposition process is going to take a while.
In the meantime, Trump twists in the wind and remains angry at his legal team and unable to speak publicly. There is no reason not to delay this and keep the pressure on Republican Senators, from any anti-Trump historical perspective.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Of course, there’s really only one person to blame for his lawyers’ catastrophically awful performance: the client.
jamesb says
Hold On!….
Seems that we have a bit of stalemate going with the witness thing….
Jake Sherman
@JakeSherman
What an unbelievable cave by Democrats here.
They cleared the first witness vote — and then decided that they wouldn’t call witnesses.

CG says
Why is Schumer being gutless?
CG says
Congresswoman Herrera-Buetler WANTED to testify and maybe others would have wanted to as well, such as Pence’s Chief of Staff.
CG says
They could have made Kevin McCarthy testify. Why are Senate Democrats letting this go?
jamesb says
See my 12:05PM comment CG….
WTF would they be SO stupid?
jamesb says
Okay….
This Dog gets it Right….
This thing isn’t going for witness and keeping this people in DC any longer …
We KNOW the verdict….
Democrats made their point….
Trump IS damaged goods to everyone except the diehard supporters…
It’s OVER….
jamesb says
Both Sides Agree To Enter GOP Rep’s Statement — And That’s It
Both sides — the managers and the President’s defense — just agreed to enter the public statement from Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (R-WA) into the record in lieu of her actual testimony.
Herrera Beutler’s statement was what prompted the House managers’ call for witnesses in the first place. Instead of testimony, we’re left with just that statement, with manager Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) just read on the Senate floor….
TPM
CG says
It’s their job to be in DC. They should be doing their jobs. Witnesses are always helpful to any kind of trial.
They wanted them in the last Trump impeachment, but there were not enough Republican votes.
This time, there are. They should call witnesses.
jamesb says
Yea Right CG?
Give it Up…
They’re going home ….
CG says
I guess a team that is losing in the 4th Quarter should just “give it up” too.
jamesb says
There was NIVER gonna be a 4th Quarter conviction and U KNOW THAT CG….
The show is over….
The players are about to exit the stage…
The concept that Trump ‘won’ is misguided….
The Capitol protest/assault has resulted in damage to the Grand ole’ Party…
Loss of membership….
125 people arrested and counting…
More sun light on anti-government groups and domestic terrorism
Hurt people….
Dead people….
One could doubt that Donald Trump will ever ‘win’ much of anything again….
CG says
As for you james, everyone here knows you have no actual principles beyond wanting to claim to have “been right” on something, regardless of what it is or whatever contortions you have to twist yourself into to claim you were “right.”
The only one happy about this development will be Donald Trump. There is no reason to not depose witnesses.
jamesb says
EXCUSE ME?
You NEVER like to say ur ‘Right”???????
EVERYBODY HERE likes to say they got it right or ARE Right….
Trump was never gonna testify ….
What WILL be interesting though?
He COULD be compelled to testify in everyone of the criminal trials in Georgia and Manhattan….
CG says
I think your 12:05 post is way off base for reasons already stated. I will be kind and not call it “stupid” though.
Why would anyone who wants Trump to be convicted just give him what he wants with this and let him off the hook in regards to these phone calls and his mindset after the insurrection started.
The charges should have always focused more on the aftermath and what Trump did as President and not that he was somehow calling for it beforehand.
If you lose and it’s botched, that’s part of the equation to. Why not have just taken the Censure option then?
For the sake of history, you could have had Congresswoman Herrera-Buetler, a Republican, testify on camera, saying that Donald Trump basically told Kevin McCarthy he was fine with the insurrection at the moment, and she WANTED the chance to do that.
jamesb says
CG?
They ARE going home….
The reasons I state ARE relevant….
I would NOT be surprised if we find out later that Biden , or someone for Biden texted Schumer, and some Democrat , and said that the President is FUCKING PISSED at this Bull Shit and would happy this could be closed OUT….
That while other Democratic Senator’s are texting the same thing to Schumer….
CG says
They are cowards then.
They all took oaths, including Biden, to protect the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.
We have witnesses willing to testify that Donald Trump was siding with the enemy and you are supporting them “going home” because some Senators had planned to play golf next week.
jamesb says
Ur reaching CG….
Donald John Trump took an oath on a bible in front of MILLIONS….
And he spend everyday trying to fuck anyone he could….
So much for the country of 330 Million….
Politican’s ARE about keeping their job….
They go what ever way the wind blows….
CG says
Since Schumer caved on this, I wonder if AOC, who felt her life was in imminent danger, will take notice.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
You should hear what Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) — whose vote and voice are relevant to this proceeding — told Judy Woodruff on PBSNewsHour last night. She was terrified for her life, as only the door that the mob was pounding on separated them from her and her husband (whose foot was desperately pressing back from their side of the door, which she wasn’t even sure was locked.
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Any particular reason my comment was held for moderation?
jamesb says
It’s up….
Something changed ….
I gotcha…
jamesb says
And being scared was last month….
The GOPer’s are over that now….
CG says
And Schumer, under what you claim is the direct order of Biden, is letting Trump off the hook, without presenting the full and complete story to America for the sake of history and for the need to hold all 100 Senators to account for this important vote.
jamesb says
My bad….
Biden would NEVER order Schumer…..
He’s an ole Senate member
Express his displeasure
jamesb says
David Axelrod
@davidaxelrod
Train is back on track!
CG says
It’s all a total cop-out
They had the votes The vote was held. Team Trump and all their apologists were literally reeling and discombobulated by this.
And then someone with a D next to their name decides to let them off the hook.
Democrats are the ones who should be most pissed by this.
jamesb says
They are NOT…..
They made their case…
Now…
They want to go home also….
And come back to move ahead with the BIDEN agenda….
The stalling IS OVER…
CG says
They had a better case to make people, Republican people, who wanted to help them make it.
Poor Senators… “we want to go home.” Send them home for good then.
jamesb says
Some Republicans would jump off the ledge for Trump….
Hundreds have committed crimes for him…
They have lost their senes of reality….
jamesb says
CG?
The sad thing is the Republicans who could gotten seriously hurt or killed voting to absolve the person who set the crowd on them….
THAT you should be knocking….
Not those exposed even more of the violence….
And sort to convict the defendant ….
CG says
You are letting those Republican Senators off the hook by not making them hear from the witnesses,.
CG says
I have other things to do. Maybe some of your other “readers” will entertain you on this.
jamesb says
It ALWAYS a pleasure for me to talk with u here CG….
jamesb says
THAT don’t matter CG…..
U KNOW THAT….
jamesb says
Breaking…
Donald J Trump is acquitted of House charge of insurrection 57 to 43…
CG says
There is no mandate for any “Biden Agenda” beyond
– get rid of this virus (which this trial is not preventing)
_ show America and the world that that the Trump Era is over (and this caving here is a total cave on that effort. You should play to the end of the game using every tool available. Witnesses would have been a big deal, in the short term, and for history.
jamesb says
And rescue the American economy
And rejoin the world
And put the government back together
And saving the planet
And putting more judges on the bench that care
And improving the countries care of immigrants
And even more….
CG says
Conviction vote is 57-43

Democratic Socialist Dave says
And you can’t even call that some collection of RINO’s from blue or purple states covering their political futures. Most lists (including mine) of deep-red states most likely to vote for Republican presidential candidates would start with Utah, Alaska and Nebraska.
Utah
Alaska
Nebraska
Louisiana
North Carolina
Pennsylvania
Maine
My Name Is Jack says
Political exposure?
Collins, Sasse and Cassidy were just re-elected.Next Election:2026
Romney re-elected 2018.Next Election:2024.
Toomey and Burr are retiring
So the only one having to face Republican voters wrath anytime soon is Lisa Murkowski next year. She might lose a Republican primary if she runs in it.(she has before) or she might just choose to run as an Independent from the start or after losing a Republican primary,
Democratic Socialist Dave says
Why on earth is Chuck Schumer delivering a tedious, partisan 30-page speech to an empty Senate.
Five minutes would have been more than enough.
