Yup…..
Seems like people of color Biden picked get a rougher ‘look-see’ from the Republicans….Biden’s choices are ALL qualified veterans in their subject area’s…
It’s 2021?
First it was the Black General….
Now it’s the women?
Senate confirmation of Neera Tanden to lead the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) appeared increasingly improbable on Monday after three key Republicans said they would oppose her.
GOP Sens. Susan Collins (Maine), Mitt Romney (Utah) and Rob Portman (Ohio) joined Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) in opposing Tanden, seemingly leaving her at least one vote short for a confirmation.
If Tanden falls, it would be the first time a Biden Cabinet nominee was blocked from confirmation….
Rep. Deb Haaland (D-N.M.), President Biden‘s nominee to lead the Interior Department, is expected to testify at her confirmation hearing Tuesday that fossil fuels will continue to “play a major role” in the U.S. but that the country must work harder to address climate change.
“There’s no question that fossil energy does and will continue to play a major role in America for years to come. I know how important oil and gas revenues are to fund critical services,” an advance copy of Haaland’s prepared statement to the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee says.
“But we must also recognize that the energy industry is innovating, and our climate challenge must be addressed,” Haaland plans to add. “Together we can work to position our nation and all of its people for success in the future, and I am committed to working cooperatively with all stakeholders, and all of Congress, to strike the right balance going forward. “
Note…
West Virginia Democratic Senator Manchin is ALMOST a Republican…
Republican Senator Lindsey Graham talked about impeaching Vice President Harris also …
CG says
This is kind of a ridiculous post to suggest that anybody, Democrat or Republican, have issues with them because they are “minority women.” Nobody else Biden has nominated has faced any confirmation problems, including many “minority women.” All Presidents always have at least one that gets rejected or more likely withdrawn first.
I don’t understand at all the reference to the “black General.” Austin was confirmed 93-2.
Susan Collins, Mitt Romney, and Joe Manchin are not opposing anyone because the nominee is a woman or a minority. Using that as an excuse only cheapens political rhetoric.
Haaland will probably be confirmed and Tanden will likely be withdrawn, which is fitting for her, in regards to her past behavior online. In any event, Democrats control the Senate and this would not even be an issue if Democrats might also be opposed, as is the case with Tanden.

Name the OTHER minority women CG?
CG says
Marcia Fudge, Katherine Tai, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, Cecilia Rouse, and Isabel Guzman will all be easily confirmed.
I assume you would not want to count Janet Yellen, the first Jewish woman ever to be Treasury Secretary.
Haaland will probably get confirmed with 50 votes.
Take the loss and Tanden and move on. Every President has to lose at least one person and every Senate is going to have to reject at least one person. It’s how things work.

If Biden does NOT pull these two?
Me thinks he has a Senate vote or TWO in his back pocket?

Did the Democrats who voted against Trump’s two “minority women” nominees, Elaine Chao and Nikki Haley do so for those reasons as well?
How about the Democrats who voted against Condi Rice for Secretary of State? They gave her the most no votes at that point for the job since 1825.
How about when Linda Chavez had to withdraw as GWB’s nominee for Secretary of Labor?

Not likely on Grassley at all in my view. Plus. Bernie Sanders and some other Democrats are also “undecided” on Tanden.

So?
Biden DOES have a chance on the OMB pick
jamesb says
The Biden administration has fewer top government leaders in place than other recent presidents at this point in their terms, a pace that’s been slowed by a siege at the Capitol, an impeachment trial, a plague and a series of snowstorms.
But activists who pushed Biden to nominate a diverse Cabinet are also noticing another phenomenon: Many of the president’s Black, Latino, Asian and Native American nominees are encountering more political turbulence than their White counterparts, further drawing out the process of staffing the federal government.
Controversy has centered on endangered nominee Neera Tanden, who would be the first Indian American to lead the Office of Management and Budget, typically a low-profile post. Her detractors, including Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin III of West Virginia, have seized on scores of pointed attacks that Tanden has made via social media in recent years — a line of criticism that women’s groups say is unfair because it focuses on her tone rather than her qualifications or policies….
