Joe Biden as President will push the new Democratic majority Congress for a second round of money going into the economy. he announced yesterday ...That sent the Stock Market up and probably made Donald Trump smile…House Speaker Pelosi also?
The conservative Democrat Manchin seems to be dead set against this…
Hmmmm?
That Democratic thin majority maybe shaky?
Would Schumer and Biden and have to go o0ver to moderate Republicans to get certain things done in the new Congress?
Manchin has since back up saying other things should come first….
But there is a good likelihood that the $2,000 check is coming sometime in the future after the $600 now….
Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.V.) told the Washington Post Friday that he would “absolutely not” support passing a round of $2,000 stimulus checks as a first priority, a key component of President-elect Joe Biden’s economic revival plans.
The latest: A spokesperson clarified Manchin’s comments after the Post story published Friday, saying the senator is not drawing a red line against $2,000 checks — only that it should be the first priority, as Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer has stated.
Why it matters: Senators-elect Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock’s victories in Georgia’s runoff elections on Tuesday clinched a narrow 50-50 majority for Democrats in the Senate, with Vice President-elect Harris acting as a tiebreaker. Moderate senators like Manchin will serve as the chamber’s new power center on close votes.
- Manchin was the only Democratic senator to vote yes on confirming Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
- The West Virginian has also voted with Trump more than any other Democrat in the Senate, the New York Times notes.
What they’re saying: “Absolutely not. No. Getting people vaccinated, that’s job No. 1,” Manchin told the Post when asked if he would support $2,000 checks as the new Senate’s first priority.
- “How is the money that we invest now going to help us best to get jobs back and get people employed? And I can’t tell you that sending another check out is gonna do that to a person that’s already got a check.”
The big picture: The House passed a measure to boost stimulus checks from $600 to $2,000 per person in December, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell blocked it from receiving a vote in the Senate.
Yes, but: Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) has been championing the push alongside Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) to increase the size of stimulus checks, an effort also endorsed by President Trump. Republican support could give the measure the majority it needs to pass the Senate….

I do agree with Manchins statement that getting people vaccinated is the no.1 priority .
The idea that the economy will get better without first getting this virus under control is laughable,

Doesn’t mean that people have to eat, especially in WV, in the mean time Jack. This means that they have to pick off a Republican to get financial relief to Americans. If folks like Murkowski really want to make amends for their support of Trump a “yes vote” may be a good start.

Yep Keith…next stimulus bill needs to come fast…money for vaccines money for spending and keeping the economy floating, money for states…then a future infrastructure Bill sometime in March…
The other thing I would say is the congress makes laws and allocates money…they don’t distribute vaccines or make them, so they can focus on multiple issues…Biden needs to use a majority of his executive power in the beginning to focus on getting the vaccine up and running…they only finally started opening 7 day a week vaccine centers by me and a few are 24 hours…I hope by February we will be injecting 500K-1mil people a day…money from congress will help…Also..where is trumps promise to have the military run the injection centers…we all know that was a laudable claim, but again his followers believed him…a total an utter failure…

The US Military should help get the vaccines delivered…
But should stay out of dealing with the public as it has learned to do after Trump tried to get it to do…

Manchin trying to ‘clear up’ something that went over like a lead ballon….
West Virginia Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin walked a fine line Sunday on whether he’d support a round of stimulus checks increasing direct aid to Americans to $2,000 per person, saying he preferred more targeted relief.
“That’s not a yes or no question,” Manchin said on CNN’s “State of the Union,” when asked by host Jake Tapper whether he was on board with sending $2,000 stimulus checks to Americans who earn $75,000 or less….
