With more US Marshall’s and Customs Border Patrol agents going there?
More protesters are also showing up….
(There and around the country)
This maybe what Trump wants to this as camping ad?
But he’s using the feds as a prop to guard a courthouse….
That while he protestors outnumber the feds, in battle gear, by the dozens….
Such moves would mark a significant expansion of the federal force operating at the Portland federal courthouse — there were 114 federal agents there in mid-July — though it is unclear how many existing personnel could be sent home after the arrival of at least 100 reinforcements, according to internal Marshals emails.
The Trump administration has responded to protests and vandalism in Oregon’s largest city with a shock-and-awe strategy, using a sudden escalation in force by camouflage-clad federal agents.
That may yet work as a campaign tactic, if it provides Trump a way to sell himself as a law-and-order candidate, the antidote to chaos that developed on his own watch.
But as a policing tactic, it has failed to suppress the protests. The escalation has been followed by larger, better-equipped and more-aggressive crowds, and — as the new reinforcements showed — it exhausted federal resources before it exhausted the protesters.
“Every time we go out into this, we get better at it,” said Gregory McKelvey, 27, a community organizer in Portland. “When a flash bang first goes off in front of you, you run. But when you realize that one went off right in front of you and nothing happened to you, you’re less likely to run the next time. It makes people band together and say, ‘No, we’re not backing down.’ ”….
Trump tries to save some face on the Portland retreat….Who goes first?
President Trump insisted Thursday that federal agents would not leave Portland until Oregon Gov. Kate Brown (D) “clear[s] out” protesters from the city, a day after Brown announced an agreement with the federal government to begin withdrawing federal tactical teams from the area.
Trump in a tweet accused Brown of not “doing her job” and lambasted protesters in Portland as “anarchists” and “agitators.”
“She must clear out, and in some cases arrest, the Anarchists & Agitators in Portland,” Trump tweeted of Brown. “If she can’t do it, the Federal Government will do it for her. We will not be leaving until there is safety!”…
Portland was grown quite as protestors cut back their actions in response to a deal their governor had worked out….
Federal tactical unit people will let state and local cops protect federal buildings from now on and the feds will pack up and leave after a short while…
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The first nightly protest in downtown Portland after a deal was struck for the withdrawal of federal agents guarding a courthouse was largely peaceful and ended Friday without any major confrontations between state police and demonstrators.
The scene outside the federal courthouse that started with yet another demonstration Thursday night stood in sharp contrast to the two weeks of violent clashes between the protesters and the agents sent by President Donald Trump to quell the unrest in Oregon’s largest city.
State and local officers stepped up their presence as part of the deal between Democratic Gov. Kate Brown and the Trump administration to draw down the number of U.S. agents at the demonstrations that have taken place in the city for more than 60 days following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis.
