President Trump on Monday said he will resume giving regular coronavirus briefings this week, reviving a practice that is controversial among some aides as infections surge across the United States.
Trump told reporters in the Oval Office he would deliver a briefing at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. It would mark his first time participating in a coronavirus briefing since late April.
Trump signaled the briefings would be heavily focused on the development of a vaccine and drugs to treat the virus, which has advanced significantly since he last held regular media sessions on the pandemic. He told reporters he may invite the heads of the companies involved in vaccine development to speak to the press.
“I think it’s a great way to get information out to the public as to where we are with the vaccine, with the therapeutics, and generally speaking where we are,” Trump said. “So I think we’ll start that, probably starting tomorrow.”
The president gave daily briefings from the White House through March and April, providing updates on the administration’s response to the pandemic. But the question-and-answer sessions regularly devolved into Trump bashing governors, sparring with the press and making factually inaccurate statements that undercut the federal government’s overall messaging…..

I disagree and agree…
Disagree in that I don’t think his poll numbers can go much lower…I think his support is pretty much locked in at between 42-45% of the voters (not the country, lower in the country, but not everyone votes so they don’t really count cause they don’t vote).
I agree because he can’t help but snipe at the press and they can’t help but antagonize him because they know this shit sells air time…so it will continue to make him look like an unhinged and delusional man…tough to say things are going great when you got 140K dead since February and the number keeps rising…
I was not alive in Vietnam, but I can imagine the daily death toll which was much lower than COVID, had to be demoralizing on Johnson and his presidency…you can explain away a lot of things…but their is nothing that has more proof in the pudding than that daily death number and that daily new case number…which has ironically started to go down the last few days since the numbers have changed from being reported from the CDC to now HHS…
We should place bets on how long into his first conference will it be fore he says your agency is fake news, your a nasty woman, and when we he just walkout again?
Fake News will be on his second response to a question…the first question will be a friendly softball from FOX or one of those agencies

I read a perceptive article by Ross Douthat .
His view ,which I share, is that changes in strategy, campaign tactics, etc are not going to save Trump.Hes shown tombe incapable of sticking to any such thing for very long.
His chance to pull this out are events.In other words something dramatic that would totally change the race.The obvious would be the ending of the pandemic.However, there is almost no chance of that,although a lessening of it might boost his numbers some.Douthat believes the law and order issue could work on his behalf,yet polls are showing that old Republican standby has been preempted of late and that Biden gets higher marks on dealing with that than Trump.
One never says “never” in ouR volatile political world.However ,depending on the usual political tools ie,change in tactics, shakeup in personnel,debates ,gaffes etc are highly unlikely to push things in Trumps favor,rather he has to depend on some unforeseeable event(s) to radically change the course of this campaign and secure him a second term.
At this point, I think Trump’s best chance of ‘winning” is voter suppression and outright fraud. Trump keeps telling his people that millions of illegal votes were cast against him. Most of them believe it, and so that could impact the actions of some to do what they think the Democrats do.
At this point, the country doesn’t trust how Trump handled a crisis. So unforeseen events by themselves most likely won’ change Many votes unless Trump handles the unforeseen event well. God help us.
I think the plan is voter suppression/fraud in states with Trump governors so that the electoral college vote outcome is not too lopsided and he can claim that the election results are questionable. Not sure how he gets around a lopsided popular vote outcome.
