Gov. Andrew Cuomo (D) announced Tuesday that visitors from eight additional states will be required to quarantine for 14 days when traveling to New York, bringing the total number of states subject to the restriction to 16.
Why it matters: New York, the original hub of the coronavirus outbreak in the U.S., has successfully flattened its curve and is beginning to reopen. Officials fear, however, that the surge of cases in others states across the country will erase New York’s progress.
The big picture: “The quarantine applies to any person arriving from a state with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a 7-day rolling average or a state with a 10% or higher positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average,” Cuomo said in a press release.

However, I think the proverbial horse has left the barn.With many Republican politicians from Trump on down pronouncing all sorts of blatant falsehoods about the spread of the virus ,in a country where the simple act of wearing a mask and practicing social distancing has become a political statement by the Radical Right Wingers ,And where an irrational political party where 60% of their adherents think things are getting better nationwide( a verifiably false claim).
I wouldn’t be too optimistic .
There are hundreds of thousands of new infections and likely many thousands more deaths in the foreseeable future.

Starting tomorrow, visitors from other Northeast states will not be asked to self-quarantine for 14 days when they come to Massachusetts because those states are also making progress in the battle against the coronavirus, Governor Charlie Baker said Tuesday.
The update to the self-quarantine advisory applies to people coming to Massachusetts from New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont, and New Hampshire.
