In It’ s effort to follow and keep Donald J. Trump as it’s leader….
The party has lost it moral compass and it’s soul….
I’m betting the answer is going to involve a noun, a verb and either “socialism” or “Democrats.” Republicans now partly define their party simply as an alternative to that other party, as in, “I’m a Republican because I’m not a Democrat.”
In a long-forgotten era — say, four years ago — such a question would have elicited a very different answer. Though there was disagreement over specific issues, most Republicans would have said the party stood for some basic principles: fiscal sanity, free trade, strong on Russia, and that character and personal responsibility count. Today it’s not that the Republican Party has forgotten these issues and values; instead, it actively opposes all of them.
Republicans are now officially the character doesn’t count party, the personal responsibility just proves you have failed to blame the other guy party, the deficit doesn’t matter party, the Russia is our ally party, and the I’m-right-and-you-are-human-scum party. Yes, it’s President Trump’s party now, but it stands only for what he has just tweeted.
A party without a governing theory, a higher purpose or a clear moral direction is nothing more than a cartel, a syndicate that exists only to advance itself. There is no organized, coherent purpose other than the acquisition and maintenance of power….

An excellent and accurate description of the Republican Party today from a Republican.
Would be that these facts be faced rather than the endless “whataboutisms” that they we are treated to here.
It’s all Harry Reid and Ted Kennedy’s fault Jack, don’t you know, silly boy.
The truth stings doesn’t Corey?
The black & white has been practiced by the GOP for fifty years, and the shattering silence from the elected party leaders when it comes to Donald Trump underscores your hypocrisy.
He’s got all of you by the pussy.
Stuart Stevens in this piece says nothing that I have not also basically said on here, on my own blog, and while being flamed in online discussion with Trump supporters.
jack, I hope in the New Year, you will grow to be less afraid of being exposed to complex ideas that challenge your often black and white mindset that if one group is wrong, the other group always has to be right.
CG’s opinions are complex? Other than his defense of Kavenaugh, nothing comes to mind.
Scott P says
What Zreebs, you didn’t find CG’s “drugs are bad, mmkay” opinion from yesterday “complex”?
The only thing he didn’t call marijuana was “killer weed.” The last time I read that kind of emotional rant against grass I was back in college.
I actually think we are witnessing an old fashioned mid-life crisis in real time. A forty something, bored at work, anoints himself the arbiter of truth and goes on a crusade to keep us all “politically honest” through the application of whataboutisms.
It would be easier to simply get a more challenging job.
My Name Is Jack says
And I hope you have something to offer but irrelevant “whataboutisms “ which often border on the ridiculous.
And No your alleged “criticisms “ of the Republican Party are as nothing compared to this whole hearted denunciation as to what your party has become.
Here, in this article, we get the facts of what mealy mouthed little members of a “syndicate” Republicans have become.
From you?We get the fullthroated criticism of “they know better.”
That’s your problem, No they don’t.
I have a lot to offer and sometimes you even say so yourself. I have been asked by james to push back against you and your black and white stubbornness. on here. He wants more opinion and diversity of thought. While I was finding it frustrating to so often have to repeat things to you, I think it’s worth it and will redouble my efforts to make you think, at least to yourself, about your biases.
Keith however is irredeemable.
Heck jack, it was just a few weeks ago, that you said on here that as a “NeverTrumper” I deliver the message just as strongly (perhaps better) than Charlie Sykes and Rick Wilson. (I took that as a very nice compliment) But when you get challenged directly, the memory gets more selective.
My Name Is Jack says
Well, yeah I think you write well.
As for Sykes and Wilson ,who have made a little financial nich for themselves as the “voices” of anti Trump Republicans?Good for them.
Maybe you should submit some of your commentary to CNN or MSNBC?Youre as good as them.
My Name Is Jack says
Oh so you’re use an “agent”of James?
That’s humorous in and of itself.
What do you boys do?Plot to “cure” me of my alleged “stubbornness” which of course is nothing more than offering a point of view that apparently the two of you disagree with.
Yes I often find some of your political analysis well done .Occassionally I agree with some of your views.
Apparently, when I do, you expect me to signify such by a post of agreement.I feel no need to do that.
As for James, perhaps you should get a hint that a fellow who delusionally believes there are thousands of people visiting this site who for some reason ,unknown, choose never to comment , might not be one to uh listen to too seriously.
Free agent. I will be challenging him too (to the extent it is worth it.) He always thinks he is right though or does a good job of pretending. I sense that deep down you know when you are wrong.
The number of visits/hits to this site have risen since it’s rebirth….
Sure there are ‘bots’ hits like every other site…
And I don’t use companies that offer to ‘sell’ you visits/hits…
Several hundred hits/visits are the way things are here…
And I’m happy….
I sure wouldn’t mind a few more commenters here….
Thank you CG…
The place IS here for discussion of different points of view…
Everyone HAS different points of view…
Hopefully this place CAN make some of us more tolerant and sometimes change some minds…
Most of them certainly need to learn more about tolerance. I can only do what I can.
Now Corey wants to talk about tolerance, funny, wish he could tell that to his fellow Republicans.
So, the other five posters here, sorry James no one is lurking out there just waiting to jump into this conversation, are supposed to tolerate a racist President and his racist party because Corey has a what aboutism for us?? Not sure how that works? Anyone that excuses the parasites that now populate the Republican Party with references to Ted Kennedy fucking on the floor of an expensive DC restaurant should never use the word tolerate. That’s being an enabler. Ted Kennedy has been dead for ten years, Trump is currently on top of America and pumping away.
Stevens is right, no one knows what the Republican Party stands for anymore these days. And, the only way to correct this situation is to vote them out of office. This isn’t a question of encouraging different political opinions, it’s an issue of no longer tolerating a mindless allegiance to a political party that is destroying our Democratic institutions. If Donald Trump is returned to office our governmental institutions as we know them will be eliminated. If that isn’t enough to shut the fuck up about something that happened 50 years ago I don’t know what is?
