Maybe it’s me?
But it does seem that the American media is inching for a Iran/US War….
Donald Trump takes out a Iranian general that has been a trouble maker in the region….
Other countries tries are actually happy it has been reported that he’s gone…
Iraq, stuck with an American President that seems to want to take it’s troops out and leave it to Iran’s wishes has Trump upset things.
Iran beat down by Obama and other Western led sanctions is trying to keep it’s domestic house in order .
Trump, being Trump is taking away the Iranian’s ability to make any deal and save face domestically because he’s just thinking about himself and his admin people are just yes men…
And Donald Trump is NOT gonna stop un til any vestiges of Barack Obama’s fin get prints are gone from another place…
I’m sure I’m missing some more parts of the puzzle…
But the worst part of this whole thing is the American media….
Yes the PRESS…
If you listen to the TV and read the news papers you’d think general Soleimani was a second coming ….
The same media that rah, rah the strikes against other Middle East provocation guys seems to turned against the American policy of going after these guys…
The action has been labeled an ‘assaination’…
Wasn’t the same for other’s?
Added to this is n ow the screaming headlines about a ‘WAR”?
What war?
Donald Trump isn’t gonna invade Iran….
Nor are the Iranians gonna engage in a ‘world war’ against America…
Folks?
Iran’s leaders have enough problems…
America, NATO and probably other Areas countries could put Iran’s LEADERS in a whole with a war…
Despite the thousand marching to the general ‘s funeral ?
Iran is economically beat up country that would have it’s own internal civil war if thin gs got even worst…
It’s not gonna happen…
But?
SOMEBODY needs to have the American media slow it’s roll op0n all of this…
That before Iran or Donald Trump feels compelled to REALLY do something stupid…

Ok…Jack …I have this….
Officials Think Iran Intentionally Missed Americans
“There is a growing belief among some Trump administration officials that Iran’s missiles intentionally missed areas populated by Americans when they targeted two Iraqi bases housing US troops early Wednesday local time,” CNN reports.
“These officials floated the notion that Iran could have directed their missiles to hit areas that are populated by Americans, but intentionally did not.”
USA Today also reports that U.S. officials had advance warning of Iran’s missile assault.

Trump will give a presser at 11:00AM….

Republican senators are calling for the Trump administration to ratchet down tensions with Iran in the wake of rocket attacks Tuesday night on two Iraqi bases that house U.S. personnel.
The public signaling from GOP lawmakers comes as they await Trump’s reactions to the strikes.
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), a top ally of Trump’s in the Senate, said in a string of tweets that “retaliation for the sake of retaliation is not necessary at this time.”
“What is necessary is to lay out our strategic objectives regarding Iran in a simple and firm fashion,” Graham added.
The objectives, according to Graham, should be stopping Iran’s ballistic missile program and preventing Iran from building a nuclear weapon and supporting of terrorist organizations….

So, basically this response was designed to do less damage than the “Iron Sheikh” did to Americans in the wrestling ring.
CG says
*If* Trump were smart and disciplined, he would be able to spin this as a huge victory for America and himself. Gotta call it as I see it.
He’s likely to step on the message though and impressions of him are pretty much baked in the cake for Americans.
We should still operate under the assumption that Iran is going to do something stealth or via proxy to try to hurt America, and then an appropriate response would be required. Right now, the message sent from them is that they are afraid of us. Rightfully so.
jamesb says
BINGO! CG!
jamesb says
Trump is talking now and his speech IS and WILL be Trump centric …..
My only hope is that he lets Iran have some domestic wiggle room…..
jamesb says
Holly Shit!??
Trump wants NATO to cover while he tries to take America out of the region…

Trump is wheezing….

This speech is what I thought it would be….

As I pointed out in the immediate aftermath of the taking out of the General, the United States is in no position for a war in Iran.
Sure we can bomb them ,then they can commit terrorist acts against us in the Middle East.
Besides, the alleged endgame here is not to overthrow the Iranian regime but to make sure they don’t develop nuclear weapons.
In my view, this is likely a forlorn hope, but we should be interested in the strategy to bring such about ,if that is the objective.
The options are limited to increasing sanctions ,probably a fairly long and drawn out process of the two steps forward, one step back variety or a war .
Once again, in my view there is no stomach for a war with Iran in this country.
So it’s the sanctions route.
We can expect more actions on both sides over the years as this matter plays out.
My guess is within five or six years Iran will develop a nuclear weapon.
I hope I’m wrong.
jamesb says
I agree with ya Jack….
We BOTH hope u are wrong …
But we wouldn’t bet on it….
If they do get one?
The region is gonna be screwed
My Name Is Jack says
Not necessarily.
Adversaries have lived with nuclear weapons for seventy years now without their use.
Not saying that I think it’s a good idea for Iran to have nuclear weapons, just that should it happen!I don’t think it necessarily heralds their imminent use
jamesb says
Iran is different ….
Due to their ambitions ?
The rest of the Arab countries would feel the need to have the bomb…
Israel has the bomb to bury the remembrance of their position at the end of the 7 day war with Egypt…
Iran should NOT have any nukes under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES
My Name Is Jack says
As for the region being “screwed,” in my fifty plus years of following developments there , I can’t remember a time when it wasn’t a mess.
The adage,”the more things change, the more they remain the same, “ certainly applies here.
jamesb says
I agree the region is a continual fight

That liberal Sen. Mike Lee of Utah said the Trump administrations briefing on the killing if Salmeini was “insulting”

GOP Senator Trashes Trump Administration Briefing
Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) ripped the Trump administration for their briefing on why President Trump ordered the assassination of Iranian Gen. Qassim Suleimani, CBS News reports.
Lee said that it was “probably the worst briefing at least on a military issue I’ve seen” and said it was “insulting” to be told by administration officials not to debate merits of taking military action.
Interestingly, Fox News cut away from Lee as he excoriated the administration….

As I did my treadmill run at the gym today one of the old Republicans had Fox on while he peddled away on the stationary bike. I got to see, and read the closed captioning, how the Fox folks were not only cheer leading for war, but how they framed the Democratic opposition.
Jack spoke today about the history of the region. And of course, there is a lot of blame to go around. But people tend to forget that almost 70 years ago the CIA had a hand in deposing a democratically elected government in Iran and installing the Shah. That is where the distrust began between our two countries. And, of course, the people in both Iraq and Iran already distrust Trump (he has succeeded in uniting the Iranian and Iraqi people in their resentment of American interference in the region).
So, Trump killed a bad guy, but one we have relied on in the fight against ISIS, and then succeeded through a series of fuck ups to alienate the region by throwing around additional threats and sending a letter telling the Iraqis that we were leaving town (although it wasn’t signed) and DoD sent it twice before saying it was sent by mistake.
This entire Administration is one gigantic shit show. Mike Lee basically said so today, and it was clear that the Administration could not explain why this assassination was so important at this time.
Finally, the slurred press conference Trump held was filled with a series of lies. He is still blaming the black boy at every turn. He is envious of Obama for more reasons than one, but that’s for another post.
Jack further speculated that Iran would probably get the bomb within five years. I would say it would be much sooner than that, they have the capabilities to build one, they just need the uranium. We had an international agreement to slow roll this development, but the jealous Mango Mussolini just had to reverse what the black boy did.
How many more of these incredible diplomatic moves can the country stand?
Now, on to the impeachment trial. How many Republicans will want to hear from witnessess.

And now we have Pence saying the intelligence on Salmeini’s imminent threat was “too sensitive” to share with Congress. Uh huh.
