Zreebs makes some very good points here, and yes we all know how this trial will end. But it isn’t hyperbole to say that our Democracy is in danger of ending too.
This whole concept may simply be too much for James. Polls are such safe discussion fodder, legal concepts not so much.
We’ve all now gone down the road of impeachment and it has been very instructive and disturbing. The Democrats are arguing the law while the Republicans pound the table.
The spineless Republicans, all of them, have been threatened by Trump, “I’ll have your head on a pike,” and they cower in their seats. I guarantee you that right now McConnell is coming up with a plan to protect vulnerable Republicans from going on record as favoring witnesses so the MAGA deplorables won’t seek revenge.
So Susan Collins, that two-faced excuse for a legislator with morals, can come up with a series of “concerns” she still has for the voters back home, or that Corey Gardner can actually talk in public again. Both of the waste cases haven’t had a town hall in two years.
The Republican Party sold out the day they nominated this piece of shit as their Presidential Candidate and they sold their souls the day they put on a sham investigation of Brett Kavanaugh’s sexual perversions.
Now they are simply finishing their conversion from the Party of Lincoln to the Trump Brand – ultimately another failed Trump business venture where he is the only person who makes money.

The Odds
(Fair and Balanced as always!)
As of January 26
Biden…44%…still the favorite ,but Sanders is pulling up steadily.
Sanders…34%…Steadily rising, wins in Iowa and New Hampshire could find him the favorite,at least for awhile.
Warren…8%…now, she must hope that Bernie collapses, otherwise, it’s hard to make a case for a comeback.
Buttigieg…6%…seems to have already peaked, where does he win?
Bloomberg…6%…Has the Money ,can stay in as long as he wants.
Klobuchar…1%…Needs Biden to collapse soon , even then has little chance.
Someone Else…1%…Just obligatory, the nominee will be one of the above

There was a lot of foolishness on this thread yesterday that basically boiled down to CG stating that politicians he doesn’t like benefit from prejudices of others–but ones he likes do not. Like I said. Silly.
It’s just a distraction from the fact that the Republican Party is about to acquit Trump buying into OJ and Epstein’s lawyer’s belief that anything a President does to get reelected is legal and therefore unimpeachable.
Voting for the one person who can defeat Donald Trump–the Democratic nominee whoever he or she is–is more important now than ever. Not voting for the eventual nominee is of course one’s choice and I won’t use terms like “loyal” or “disloyal”. But if you are serious about removing Trump that is the only option.
For anyone who cares I will vote for Amy Klobuchar if she is still in the race on March 10 when Missouri votes. If she is not I will support Biden or Buttigieg as I am almost 100% certain one of those will be in the race at that time if Amy is not. I will happily support whoever the nominee is in November as I see it is the only choice we have to save this country.
CG says
If neither you or I act politically out of prejudice, they we should recognize the problem doesn’t apply to us. However, it does exist and for only one party to be blamed is foolish.
Keith says
I would argue that universal dislike of Democrats is a form of prejudice, something that a 20 plus year voting record underscores in all State and Federal elections.
I don’t have the luxury of sitting at a work computer trying to avoid boredom. Too much to do. But I would say two things: the modern Republican Party is built on a racial divide and we need look no further than the current Republican President for confirmation of this fact.
But hey, someday the Republicans might nominate a woman. Right Ivanka Trump.
The excuses and deflections for these racist homophobic old fat white men become more ridiculous by the business day.
Oh, and I will only be impressed by Justice Roberts if he calls witnesses. What a typical sycophantic comment that was.

When are the 4 other people on here going to stop taking Keith seriously?
Scott P says
Oh jeez now we have the pity party. Who is stopping you from voting for a Democrat?
I didn’t need an engraved invitation when I decided the Republican Party no longer served my interests. To use the public transportation analogy I just took the imperfect bus that is getting me to where I need to go. That is the Democratic Party. And if your destination is a White House free of Donald Trump it is the ONLY bus running in November.
CG says
I haven’t had a Democrat worthy of voting for in the past, but as you know, I was rooting for some recently against Republicans. The ones that people here said couldn’t win. Turns out I was right.
But it is very clear that the national Democrat Party has no room for someone who has beliefs like I do. I would be thrown off that bus and I am not going to pay Donald Trump to ride his.
CG says
I would also demand the bus driver of your “imperfect bus” to be drug tested.

This very well-written S.E. Cupp column is worth a read by everyone:

Scott P says
SE Cupp says that Andrew Yang doesn’t hate people like her Trump suppprting father, but she’s “not sure of the other” Dr.ocratic candidates.
Well maybe if she did just a little research she’d know that Elizabeth Warren often mentions her two Republican brothers and how much she loves them despite their political differences.
So this is not “well written” in my opinion.
CG says
I lost a post somehow…
A. Warren has said her brothers are not Trump voters
B. Only “junkies” would know about Warren’s brothers.
I don’t think the impression that Warren gives off is unique just to S.E. Cupp. Perception is reality in politics and that is why this is a problem for Warren. Someone like Yang comes across differently because he takes a different tact.
My Name Is Jack says
Apparently Cupp puts Bloomberg is the category of “ hater.”
You’ve talked about voting for him.
Do you agree with Cupp?
I presume not.
CG says
She didn’t say she thought he was. She said she thinks he is too much of a nanny state liberal. She is right.
But I also find him more acceptable than the other Democrats, especially on foreign policy.
CG says
Oh, and I certainly have the impression that Bloomberg is quite arrogant and is very much an elitist.
I wish he weren’t. But he isn’t Trump. (and I like his new dog ad… after he got caught shaking the snout of a dog.)
“The Dog” should be covering stuff like this.
My Name Is Jack says
Well then this is poorly written.
After saying that Yang isn’t a hater, she them proceeds to say that she “can’t say the same for others .”She then proceeds to write two paragraphs mentioning the following:Sanders, Warren and Bloomberg, before saying,” on the other hand…”
Certainly one could interpret her arrangement of paragraphs and her wording to lump Bloomberg with Warren and Sanders.
CG says
Literary criticism is valid. I liked much of what she said and agree with the general concept. It doesn’t mean I co-sign every word. I tend to like her opinion pieces.
My favorite writer about political matters continues to be David French.
My Name Is Jack says
Cupp also says that Biden, Klobuchar and Buttigieg are in the non hater category.
Do you agree?
CG says
I certainly think they are in a different category than Warren and Sanders (and others) in that regard.
Biden also sure did his best to play the hater role when he was tasked with being Obama’s attack dog in 2012, as VP candidates often are.
Scott P says
How was Biden a “hater” in 2012?
CG says
“He’s gonna put y’all back in chains.”
Just one example. Then you can watch his VP debate with Paul Ryan and ask yourself who his mannerisms remind you of.
CG says
Nowadays, Biden preaches love for humanity in general and I think he is sincere, but he is not afraid to express his hate of overweight old dudes who criticize him at Town Hall Meetings.
Scott P says
Yeah Biden was so Trump like in 2012. That’s why Trump endorsed him.
Oh wait, he endorsed Mitt Romney. Who gladly shook hands and accepted Mr. “Obama Has a Fake Birth Certificate”
CG says
You are building another one of your straw men again. Just stick to the facts.
I don’t think Trump is too fond of Mitt right now.
Scott P says
Why? Has Romney said that if there are no witnesses he cannot vote to acquit Trump?
CG says
Just wait and see. Believe me, Trump and his ilk loathe Romney.
My Name Is Jack says
Where’s the “ straw man.”
You often citeTrumps support of Bill Clinton almost a quarter century ago.
What’s wrong with noting his support of Mitt Romney a mere eight years ago?
Personally ,I never have understood the big deal about whom Trump “supported” in the past.
However ,the fact that he was a leading “birther” and such merited little comment from his Republican supporters is to me of much more interest.
It says a lot about who he is and who those who support him are.
CG says
I said at the time that I was uncomfortable when Trump endorsed Romney.
Romney has said since he shouldn’t have accepted the endorsements.
Romney never endorsed any birther idea.
After Romney lost in 2012, Trump endorsed Hillary for 2016 and said she had been the best Secretary of State ever and would be the best President ever. Then, somehow he changed his mind.
My Name Is Jack says
I never said Romney was a “birther” and specifically said I wasn’t too interested in these past “endorsements.”
You are though ,so you shouldn’t be surprised when ones you don’t like are mentioned.
Since Trump ran and won the Republican nomination?I presume most Re “forgave” his endorsement of Hillary.

You guys= those whom almost always vote Democrat, i.e. those who are not “sickened” by the party label.
My Name Is Jack says
Ok using that criteria when speaking of Republicans to you in the future I will refer to “your guys.”
CG says
Not as accurate, since I am not voting the same way the vast majority of the party is.
Why are you rejecting being called a Democrat?
As I have said, if Trump wins in 2020, I will stop calling myself a Republican and will consider myself a conservative independent. It would just be semantics at that point though as there is nothing substantive that will change. I stopped being an “active Republican” in 2016, but I will continue vote for the most worthy candidate office by office.
If Trump loses, I would like to at least try to be part of the process of changing the Republican Party away from him. Certainly no guarantees about how that will go.
CG says
If anybody here is not a “guy” and I have unintentionally misgendered you, my sincere Woke apologies.
My Name Is Jack says
I’m not an “ active” Democrat.
My only relationship to the Democratic Party is that I usually vote for Democratic candidates.
You usually vote for Republicans ,yet claim you are not an “ active ‘ Republican because you no longer attend Republican meetings ,took your Republican license plate off and am not contributing to Republican candidates.
As I pointed out, I haven’t attended a Democratic meeting in over twenty years, have no identifying Democratic emblems on my automobile ,nor have I contributed money to any Democratic candidate running as aDemocrat in over twenty years.
Accordingly, I am not an”active” Democrat. Therefore should not be identified as aDemocratic “ guy” anymore that you should be as a Republican.
CG says
The license plate is still there, I cannot figure out another option at this point.
So, you may not be a Democrat, but you sure have played one on the internet for over 15 years. I think the level of vitriol over all that time towards Republicans makes you a Democrat in good standing.
My Name Is Jack says
Yes and you’ve always been so”tolerant “ ” of Democrats.
Your constant wailing about people “attacking “ Republicans ,while you daily do the same to Democrats ,makes your faux pathos all the more humorous.
CG says
“Historically”, you have been much harsher on Republicans than I ever was on Democrats as a group.
My Name Is Jack says
Yeah riiight,
I’m sure everyone here agrees with that.
CG says
They agree with you in thinking, at least since 2004, that Republicans are a lesser species.
Are we honestly not supposed to think of you as a Democrat?
My Name Is Jack says
Are we honestly not supposed to think of you as a Republican because you occassionally say you’re “ disappointed “ in this or that Republican. Or you “ aren’t happy” about such and such a Republican.?
You are a Republican You know it We all know it.
But if you’re going to play silly “ games.”
Why not all of us enjoy the fun?
Weeeeeee!!!
My Name Is Jack says
Yet for reasons you’ve never really made clear, you seem prefer this small group of people who you claim regard you as a “ lesser species” than your fellow species at another site.
One could describe that as “ odd” or could it be it is much more “ fun” to bash Democrats to other Democrats ,rather than trying to one up fellow “ species as to who is “ really “ a Republican?
CG says
I was certainly a proud, partisan, active Republican until Donald Trump took over the party.
Since then, it should be more than obvious that I have major issues with the condition and direction of the party.
I don’t think it should be too difficult to think of me or categorize me as NeverTrump Republican.
And of course my views remain conservative (and mainstream as you have affirmed) pretty much the same since 2004.
CG says
I”m an equal opportunity basher, depending on who is around.
Since the crowd over at the only other blog I participate in is about 10 times the population of this, when they all attack me at once, I would have to increase my posts in response and then lose out on valuable work time. This is more manageable, but sometimes I feel the urge to go shame those bastards too.
My Name Is Jack says
Yet this whole thing started as you insisted you no longer considered yourself a Republican when I used the phrase “fellow Republican.”
Today you are a “Never Trumper “ Republican?
Use whatever qualifier you want but you are still a Republican.
Accordingly I will henceforth ignore your periodic outbursts that you are “not” a Republican and refer you to your statement of January 30 wherein you concede that indeed you are.
So then once again I can Be one of “you guys”(your description of us Democrats ) and I will refer to you as your fellow Republican when describing one of the daily conduct of one or more of your fellow party members.
My Name Is Jack says
No you’re not.Almost all your bashing is of Democrats with an occasional jab at Trump or some particularly egregious idiocy from one of your fellow Republicans.
Just think ,when Trump departs the scene ,you can go back among those “ bastards” and be one big happy family again!
CG says
jack, a judge would overrule you on this so fast your head would spin.
Lumping me with Trump supporters is not valid. I am never voting for DJT, not even for Mosquito Abatement Commission if his Democrat opponent were Hitler, Himself.
On the contrary, you are someone who shares almost all the same positions as Democrats and are proud to say you will vote for *any* Democrat that gets nominated this year, including Sanders, Warren, Gabbard, whomever. You would vote for a cardboard donkey if it were nominated against Trump (and that’s fine.)
So, saying “you guys” when I am literally referencing 4 or 5 people here is a bit different than saying that Trump defenders are “my guys.”
Goodnight.
jamesb says
Ah?
‘People ain’t just one thing, eh?’
My Name Is Jack says
Oh such faux outrage.
The truth of the matter is and you have admitted this on occasion…
That in the future you will readily support any of a number of Republicans who today are supporters of Trump.
So what’s your thing about “Trump supporters.”
As for the judge overruling me?I would like to see any judge, based on your past and present posts here(one in which you admitted that you support most Republican policies and have Never voted for a Democrat in a partisan race) , rule on your statement that You are not a Republican.
My guess is that (after banging the gavel to stop the uproarious laughter and guffawing from the audience ) he/she would simply say uh “overruled.”
CG says
I’ve continued to say that I am a Republican but I am not a Republican member of the U.S. Senate. Thus, my “fellow Republicans” in the Senate is very much a misnomer. So is lumping me in, as a non-Trump supporter, as “you guys” with Trump supporters when there is clearly a difference.
Trump has Democrat supporters as well. Even though you are certainly a Democrat, despite your odd reluctance to admit so (I remember you spent years denying on P1 that you were from South Carolina before finally admitting it.) I would not say refer to you as being part of a group of Trump supporters.
There are about 5 or 6 people that regular post here. My political beliefs tend to be fairly different than anyone else (with their also being issues I agree with others on), so I hardly think it is a problem for me to refer to the other 5 or so as “you guys” in a political context.
CG says
To be more politically correct, I will intend to follow the example of Ross Perot and say “you people” from here on out.
CG says
To make this more simple for jack, I wish I could create a simple chart.
Imagine if it looked just like this:
Politicaldog101 commenters:
You guys= those who want a Democrat to be President
Us guys- those who do not want Donald Trump to be President
CG= the person who wants someone other than Donald Trump or a Democrat to be President
I *might* be busy tomorrow (final day of the month can go one way or another depending on others) so I will address any additional questions on this matter next week.
Scott P says
Well tomorrow Senate Republicans are likely to completely bend over for Donald Trump so it’s pretty convenient that CG will likely be “busy”
Zreebs says
You might have already answered this, but I missed it. If Bloomberg gets the nomination, will you vote for him?
Keith says
Are you asking that question of Corey Zreebs?
Because I will tell you now that he ain’t voting for any Democrat.
CG says
H. Keith insisted I was going to vote for Trump too in 2016.
Keith says
You did vote for Trump Corey, because you didn’t vote for the only candidate who could beat him.
You are headed in that direction again, and in a year when it matters the most.
Very unAmerican.
CG says
H. Keith, my personal vote in my state made no difference in the outcome. We all know that. Both major party nominees in 2016 were disqualified in my mind for both ethical and ideological reasons.
Country First. Purely American
Keith says
And your vote this time will count for even more Corey. Are you going to vote for Trump again by casting a meaningless vote for a third party candidate, especially when the stakes are so high this coming November? Or are you going to do the patriotic thing?
As Jack pointed out you play at being critical of Republicans but save your greatest disdain for Democrats, especially any Democrat that might have a chance of defeating Trump.
It’s decision time Corey. Are you going to cast a vote that will help Trump be re-elected or are you going to vote to defeat Trump.
Tonight it is clear that the Republican Party has completely sold out to Trump, they are in his control save the few Senators that will vote for witnesses. We will now have a shame trial and quick acquittal by a Republican Party that has decided to ignore the rule of law, the need for witnesses. and a thorough investigation of the President’s illegal actions. Are you happy about that Corey? What is you opinion of all these Republicans rolling over and putting their legs up the air for Trump? Will you overlook their complicit behavior? Would you ever vote for them again for any office?
Do you actually think that after four more years of Trump that your Party will look anything like it did during the salad days of George W. Bush when they only lied about things like starting a war. Trump will be unleashed because it will take 67 Senators to remove him from office, and we all know that won’t happen. The power of the Presidency will grow expediently and his family will only grow richer.
So are you going to vote to remove this cancer from our government or shall we just talk about Ted Kennedy having sex on a restaurant floor? Silliness as Jack would say.
CG says
As of today, yes.
My Name Is Jack says
To make this simple for CG?
You are a Republican.
Zreebs says
It is a more concise description.
Keith says
“Simple and concise” are so very appropriate for this situation.
CG says
Thank you, Mr. McCarthy.
